Alright guys...time for my weekly installment. This one gives very good instruction in basic attacks and will give you a firm foundation on which you can build your skills. Remember to focus on striking at the right angle.
Special Thanks to Scott Rogers...

This is perhaps the best video instruction I have seen. Simple, realistic, effective. No advertising a particular brand or martial art. I subscribed and saved this video and plan to watch and learn in my home gym. Keep up the great work for those of us who are not masters and need basic techniques with one to three steps that can be repeated until muscle memory sets in. Thank you, kind sir.

This is the 1st video of this channel I've seen and I immediately respect that this is a teacher who knows what he's doing purely from how he treats his student/helper. His student is fully protected and Chris uses precise, controlled movements without hurting. My take away is that this guy is a bad ass who doesn't feel the need to prove it which lends immediate credibility. Thumbs up.

+John Thomas John the reason you dont see any of this in mma , Kick / thai boxing or any full contact martial arts is it will not work & most likely get yourself hurt. I am 52 & would be surprised (actuallyamazed) if this guy lasted 5 seconds in a cage or ring with me.

+Derek Thomson Hi Derek. You are wrong. I practice ju-jitsu which dates back to the 1600's and was designed to destroy joints and break bones. I see at least one takedown that does have combat application. Let us not forget that MMA/Cage Fighting is a sport and not real combat. I am a 22 year veteran of the Army and have deployed twice. Some of what he is teaching is very practical in a fight or in combat. His techniques are just a few tools for people to keep in their kit and to use as necessary. I know many throws and takedowns and I have my favorites that doesn't mean I won't use one that isn't my favorite if the tactical decision calls for it. I would like to see a video of you and the instructor in this video fighting. It would be interesting if your skills and back up your loud mouth.

+Derek Thomson have you even attended any classes that demonstrates pressure points i think your attitude would change very quickly. ive trained mma for 5 years and my buddy was praticing karate kenpo(pressure points) and he had me on the ground before I could think. some put you in horrible pain others overload your brain and it shuts down aka KO. MMA isnt bullet proof and isnt gods given martial arts. no one is impressed by you and you keyboard warrior skills

These kind of pressure point techniques is actually great to amplify the damage output on enemies in other material arts such as MMA. I myself have trained different material arts.. and once you know how to, for example, kick- you can do an insane amount of damage at spots you normally wouldn't go for.

Julie what i am trying to get accross to u is even if u became as good as "Scot" it does not work in real situations - for Scot or anyone else. I have trained with some of the best martial artists / self defence practitioners in the country (Geoff Thompson the best self defence instructor in the business also) worked on doors & had many violent encounters. Please dont waste your time on this, what worries me is anyone trying to use it only to find out it is useless & get hurt in the process.All the best & good luck in the future Julie

No matter what the martial art, there will always be someone to down it. I'm 73 and I've trained and taught since 1970. I was thinking of teaching my AKJ-American Kenpo on RU-vid, but I have to be ready for the attacks; funny. All martial arts are valid, the man and practice makes it viable. I ignore verbal stabs at my art, because at 5'2" I have been attacked many times in my life and it ended with me standing and after only one move! So my variation of American Kenpo does work. Remember, doesn't matter how many black belts you have, you can still be taken down. Your training reduces the number of people that can take you down. Peace-----or War! :) This guy has good points like many do. You learn like this, but in the streets you use your training differently. Sifu

I think the disconnect here is that some martial artists associate pressure points with no touch techniques and other chi inspired mysticism. However I think there is a middle ground and they do have their place. Pressure points are not where your chi energy is housed, they are actually clusters of nerves where there is a split in a muscle or tendon that cause pain when pressure is applied. Also anyone who is realistic about the use of pressure points will have to recognize that pressure points are different on each individual and may not work the same on everyone. So this is a actually a point in the instructor's favor as he points these things out and basically says aim for it but if you miss it you can still get the take down or balance disruption. So in my mind these techniques are not even dependant on pressure points but are an extra special bonus that may go further to deter your attacker. I mean a strike to the throat is a strike to the throat whether you get that specific point or not.

I mean a few of these techniques will hurt, but that does not mean they’ll work. Also, there’s a reason it’s associated with no touch bullshit- they’re both taught in this guy’s martial art (Kyusho Jitsu). This guy does yin bullshit, too. This is just the more legit-seeming stuff to get you suckered into the cult. This video is the martial arts equivalent of a Scientology audit. And most of this is BS to.

Superb video. Taught similar by ex SAS back in 1978. However, can only remember limited amount so this video is great. Would love to be taught this to perfection. I'm 55, not exactly super fit and of slim build. Last thing I'd ever want is a confrontation going to ground as I'd be hospitalised. These techniques DO work, so long as your mind works fast and you are trained well enough to know exactly what reactionary move to use with split second timing. Practice makes perfect and if you seriously get to grips with this, your confidence in confrontation will increase 100 fold. Thanks for sharing this.

It does not exist my friend. It is fake. It is fantasy. Like i told before, i am a competition fencer. Despite the protective gear we use, i come home spotted with half inch bruises all over the place. Some of the pressure points are touched many times, and with force. Nothing did ever happen other then a 3 week "fencing tattoo". Besides of that i have 30 years of martial arts on my record. Legit. Kyokushinkai and Krav Maga. (and fencing) There are tons of legit martial artists here on youtube, amongst them lots of experienced competition fighters. There are also tons of competition fencers on youtube. All of them are hit MANY times on a pressure point as there are many of them and with every new pressure point style more are added. Why is there never happen something to them? Why do they all, without exception, say that pressure points do not exist? Why should they ALL lie about it? If you want to spend your money on fake martial arts because you like it, thats ok. But never tell around that it is real, never expect you can actually defend yourself. And i genuinely hope you will never find yourself in street fight. Because then you wil learn the truth the hard way. And i fear that the mental damage you receive wil be a lot worse then the black eye and a stolen wallet.....

+fcastle Boxed for many years and am an active martial artist. Can thesetechniques work? Yes. What I and many other practicing martial artistsfind fault with concerns a broader issue....that of confusing the comfortablesetting of a dojo with the harsh and unpredictable reality of violence onthe street. Reality isn't choreographed. Real attackers don't just offertheir appendages and remain still while you refer to the appropriate video.There is a world of difference between the student who is only there tomake the instructor shine and someone who jumps you in an alley. Theseclassroom demonstrations can inspire false confidence and depend toomuch on complex techniques and choreographed scenarios. If someonewants to be able to defend themselves in a parking lot today and nottwenty years from now after they have mastered the hundreds of "lethal" techniques offered in the martial arts, simple is better. Better to have10 techniques you can fight with than a hundred techniques that fightyou.
@bws205
@bws205 8 лет назад
I agree. The problem with many dojos is that the sparring is not realistic sparring and that is the instructor and/or students fault....if you don't want to learn for real then you're not going to. Of course, many kids in those classes are not there to really learn to be able to fight etc., they are just in it for the art, exercise, etc. As you suggest, there are moves like kicks that are only effective when you are really good at them and know when to do them, otherwise its a liability where you get off balance or have your leg grabbed and thrown to the ground or punched in the face. And of course, most dojos are just businesses, which is no surprise.
@brunoborer7038
@brunoborer7038 8 лет назад
+fcastle Many martial arts schools today are belt mills. The focus is on obtaining rank. Not on developing solid self defense skills. Many students attain the rank of first degree black belt in two years or less. There are far too many instructors who promote themselves at will without oversight. Belts arehanded out like candy. For anyone who has had some experience on the street the self defense demonstrations conducted in these schools where an absolutely obedient student good naturedly handsover his appendages and remains very still while his instructor goes to work are laughable. Against suchan attacker who needs to learn a martial art? Just punch him in the face. Or knee him in the balls. Fortunately all schools are not like this. And I'm not saying the gentleman in this video is a fake or thatthese techniques have no real application. But I'm not alone in saying that there is a lot of BS out there.Find a school that teaches practical self defense so you can defend yourself in a parking lot tonight withproven techniques that are simple, quick, direct, powerful and can be used even when you're adrenalized.

There is a difference between a fight, a demo and instruction. Watching the first two makes it much harder to learn. Often when learning a grab is a good place to start, that doesn't mean it can't be done otherwise, it's just a basic point of learning, just like many locks are taught starting with a grab, it doesn't mean you can't be the one grabbing or that the lock can't come around during a fight, it's just a starting point for learning purposes.

Yeah when your getting attack by someone that wants to show you that your techniques work its all fine but what if this guy is trying to take your head off? What if hes an amatuer boxer? what if hes got martial arts background training? The big difference between flashy martial arts that dont work but look good and effectively simple moves that look like shit but work really good are the experience that the instructor has (or in this case doesnt have) and you can tell just by watching the videos online of who would win in a life threatening scenario. Most of the stuff this guy is teaching takes years of dedication and mastery to perform and even then you have a 50/50 chance of successfully protecting yourself and you have to train your body to react without thinking which takes forever to learn!
@Takolonez
@Takolonez 9 лет назад
usually when you get into a fight the opponent will always try to take your head off, even an amateur boxer would go straight for the head so is very important to keep your head moving(like in a dancing motion) , basically is very easy to avoid a punch aimed to the head. (search for a slip technique there are billions on youtube). If you dodge a punch and could possibly catch the arm and use of of the techniques from this video your opponent is 99% out, even is he has black belt in 3 different martial arts. And that is because those techniques are made to catch your opponent off guard and out of balance. I've seen my friend who practices martial arts from the time he was 6 y/o getting his ass handed to him when he wanted to show off to some highschool kids; he went straight for the instant knockout and the kid dodged his punch then he kicked his leg and then boom, lights out. So all in all in a situation on the street it depends on your reflexes and being aware of your opponents distance and so on, I spend very much time on street and from my experience the ones who practice martial arts or fighting sports are always looking to avoid fights and not to start them so is very unlikely to see an amateur boxer wanting to pulverize your teeth, but of course you can't watch a video on yt and then say "yeah now i can defend myself in every situation" or "I'm untouchable" ; you have to try and practice at least 2-3 of those techniques you watched to be able to resist in a situation like that on street.

This an excellent beginner's instructional video. If your attacker is a well developed or fat person, pressure points may be harder to find the total effect. But quick follow up after a strike to open areas is wise.

When I was in college there was this Japanese student who could put you on your back holding your hand (and putting it in pain) no matter how you grabbed him. Some of this is good info Smash someone behind the jaw or ear you will FU** them up But people put full faith into all this I had a guy come up to me and say If I did this you would be done I said ok Lets see as soon as you go to hit one of my pressure points I'm going to FU** you up he was like well no you have to get into position I said OK I will but when you start I'm Gonna Stop You Ok Fine I!!! will go Really Really Light and you go 100% I will Not hurt you just Protect myself and if you tap I will stop In 5 sec he was tapping and I did Not strike because I really did not want to hurt him Now He Practices BJJ wrestling and Mui Tai and is a BEAST Even better than me now

But i can tell you, we have a pressure master in Holland too. And that fucker started out legit. So what does he do with the often young and unexperienced challengers? At a unexpected moment he use a real technique on them and then credit the pressure point technique for it. I saw this happen more then once. If your "master" try to fuck me with that, i play mean too and pull out my epee to stab him on every pressure point he got to give him bruises till next christmas.... But like Bas Rutten who challenged them on HIS expenses: i will never hear anything about it again other then youtube blablabla......

What? Want to fight a man without knowing about him? Want to stick your neck out just like that? In less time than a blink of an eye, you will get hit--really hit--your arm will suddenly become numb and your sternocleidomastoid will be traumitized. You won't move. You'll have months of recovery, until your next stupid mistake. This instructor, Scott, is proud to show his style. With perfect practice, you, too, will experience your value within yourself. Whatever style you may choose. So many assholes are quick to make dumb comments about his video, yet have never faced death and don't know what it feels like. I've been there, were you? So, stop thinking that idiot remarks will make a difference, cause they won't. You're just bringing yourself closer into real trouble one day when you do.

I wish it were all true and perhaps in the perfect world, this instructor would not seem so comical to the trained eye- a realistically trained Martial Arts student will see the difference. In the instructors defense, I give him this; he has lots of energy and focus! he seems honorable enough- his instruction however, and some of his techniques remain unproven and truly do not work in the streets! You may ask why? there are several reasons actually, but to name a few- stress, fear- courage, the fight or flight factor, body reaction time, thinking time, your attackers size, conditioning and what about a weapon!? I trained in South Korea for 10 years during my U.S. Army years- I trained with a true Korean school- not on the Army base. We trained with full contact techniques for at least 90% full action- lots of blood, sweat and tears- very dangerous stuff. I would guess this young man has never experienced a real confrontation in our dangerous streets! The pressure point he was looking for on the arm is actually located center from the top of the forearm and deep between the two muscles. The location he was speaking of, actually houses two nerves- Radial and humerus nerves- these two nerves are located up the inside of your arm or inner forearm- right on the bone and beginning from your wrist- if you execute a successful blow to those nerves, one will actually buy a few seconds for an additional motion. the feeling your attacker will experience is equal to that of experiencing a nice jolt of electricity to your brain- its really painful. I actually practiced for at least six (6) months on learning where the pressure points were and nerves, previous to actually attacking them- trust me, we really attacked. my arms were always in pain and quite red after every pressure point / nerve class. Finally and unfortunately, here in the U.S.of A. many of your Martial Arts schools are set up to make money- you can even sign a contract for 3 or 4 years of instructions- a large down payment or payment in full required, with a promise you will achieve your First Dan - IL Dan or 1st Level black belt. Trust me when I tell you, this is quite impossible to promise any student. Every person is different, we learn at different speeds, we all have reasons we just cannot make it to class on many scheduled class dates! So, previous to signing any contract and spending lots of money, be sure of a few facts- the instructors certification and where he received it- if he trained under a Korean Grand Master whom actually received his black belt in South Korea, you may have no worries. Korean Grand Masters here in the U.S. have shared with me this- the reason we cannot teach authentic Korean style Martial Arts is due to insurance reasons- you see, here in the U.S. if we get hurt, we like to go to court for any injuries sustained. In South Korea, you train the way you will need to fight. As close to real as possible! Martial Arts for ever!
@ChippyPippy
@ChippyPippy 9 лет назад
That's odd, why don't the Korean schools have students sign wavers? My BJJ classes had me sign one due to potential injury risks.
@yankinyc1
@yankinyc1 9 лет назад
In Korea, Martial Arts is the real deal- unless of course you study on Post. there is no waiver to be signed if you decide to train for real in an off post - Korean school. oh, and you have to pay close attention while in class- chances are, your grand master is not well skilled in our language- American English!

Rick Holmes I trained in korean martial arts for years, it could have cost me my life on the streets, i studied grappling and thats fine and can work but all the factors you mentioned have to be dealt with...now larry wicks comes along and shows us yet another way, and it might also work, but in real street fights and battles etc. no one can really predict the outcome, its all chance no matter how skilled or what we think we know unless we have a gun or knife etc. and thats what punks and those that ambush resort too but god forbid we should have to.
@VinDcator
@VinDcator 9 лет назад
Rick Holmes As a practicing martial artist for over 25 years, I can attest to your comments. I taught my students to know that, under ANY circumstances, they must learn and know-and when I say "know,' I mean REALLY KNOW IT. "Perfect practice" is what I had been taught, and I passed that on. Perfect practice was like your drills, meaning repeat the right form and execution, over and over again. Then, in any confrontation, you will know, instinctively what to do without having to think about it. My belief is to know at least three techniques, any techniques, that one can use automatically to defend against, even if literally being awakening from sleep. Three effective responses that one just knows and can DO when the time actuallly comes. I know--I've had to do it. Does it work always? Haven't been in enough battles to say for sure. No absolutes. Thank you, Sir, for your service.

I teach self defense at my Uni and I inform them that not all people are easily affected by pressure points and that they must use other areas of the body that are much more promising than simple chops. I know this instructor's techniques work of course. But you have to take in to account that not all human beings can be inflicted by pain as easily as the average Joe/Jane. Not all assailants are men nowadays, and there are women who may have hidden talents to not feel the pain of pressure points. Which is why I give my students other options to work with in their favour. This is my senior year and I have had only a few that have deterred would be attackers from themselves or their friends and they were arrested onsite. It's a great feeling to know that they are grateful for my teachings. Just remember, attackers come in all shapes and sizes and in both genders. Oh and some may surprise you by being double jointed too. I learned that the hard way. Never underestimate the bad guys.

I just realized that, there are often numerous opportunities to strike the attacker directly into their eyes, or to hammer/clap them hard on the ear, causing a LOT of pain, discomfort, and disorientation. Perhaps these options ought to be emphasized as "FAIR play" in any real defense scenario. Thanks! BTW: Great demo videos!!!!!

Thing about these type of videos is that you can never be sure how someone will react.... what if you palm strike there stomach and the guy doesnt bet? or throws a headbutt how can you guarantee these combinations this is more like a script in a fight for a movie... the only true fighting styles that work are use of a jab or hooks , leg kicks double leg take downs.... you have more of a chance of landing them then anything
