In 1888, The Football League was founded, and the first season would soon take place. Preston North End stormed to the title without losing a single game, and would cement their place in history by adding the FA Cup to seal a double.

As a Preston fan I’m very happy to see someone recognising the original invincibles

Yes, it is really important for people to know about the original Invincibles🤩 I am from Norway and it is just two clubs that have gone unbeaten in one season, Fredrikstad did it in 1951-52 and Rosenborg did it in 2010😀

Interestingly North End are still followed in Scotland. The Sunday Post always produces a full format report on all our games.

As a kid in Arbroath Scotland I followed North End reading the Sunday Post. Big following.

Would have been great to have been alive to see this. Even if you're not a Preston supporter.

PNE will be Premier League one day, there's no doubt. To even gain promotion this season is entirely possible after such a flying start.

We need them in the prem at some point, arguably english football’s first great club, criminal how long they’ve been away, hope they can keep it up
@ChrissyboyH44
@ChrissyboyH44 Год назад
@@afcfinners Almost every club which has been in the top flight before bounces back to it at some stage, even if it's many decades later. Huddersfield and Brentford are two great recent examples. PNE last saw top flight status in 1961 and have also won two titles. It's therefore far more likely PNE will make the Prem one day soon than say Plymouth Argyle or Rotherham who are also playing currently in the Championship but have never played top flight football. However, PNE, Bristol City and even Millwall could well make the Prem within the next couple of seasons but have never been in it before now. That's generally how the English football pyramid works over time.
@afcfinners
@afcfinners Год назад
@@ChrissyboyH44 Yeah I've seen many clubs get to the prem for the first time like Bournemouth, Huddersfield and Hull and expect the likes of PNE and BC to follow soon, I think it's a healthy aspect of English football

Shame they've not been in the top flight since the 50s, I'm not a PNE fan but I'd love to see them get promoted over the likes of Norwich or Watford they've waited long enough
