House of the Dragon is an upcoming American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal for HBO. It is a prequel to the television series Game of Thrones (2011-2019) and is based on Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the "Dance of the Dragons", and the war itself. House of the Dragon received a straight-to-series order in October 2019 with casting beginning in July 2020 and principal photography beginning in April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The first season of the series is scheduled to premiere in 2022 and will consist of ten episodes.

By the show’s own logic, Aegon being able to recline on the iron throne without so much as a paper cut means he is the rightful king of Westeros and making all the right decisions. The white stag thing? Never happened.

@@AxeloftheKeyIn fairness, the point of the episode was less about the symbols and more about how people interpret them. Rhaenyra saw the stag on her own, less divine sanction for her reign and more something that she personally will use as inspiration because she doesn’t need the approval of anyone else, it was only important for her because she chose to let it go when everyone else would have demanded it be slain. By contrast, everyone is gathered around Viserys to watch as he inelegantly butchers a stag; not a task he wants to do but has been forced to awkwardly do by everyone around him while they pretend it was a great act when he barely got through it. A better symbol of his reign I don’t think there could be. I didn’t see it as a direct “symbol = destined to rule” but more a commentary on how people perceive them, or don’t perceive them in this case.

That was my assumption. But Aegon and Torrhen going up there is still questionable. I guess Torrhen knelt at the Inn of the Kneeling Man, but that was only like a courtesy. Aegon was a really busy dude and said "Great your on board with me. Let's hash out our legitimate constitutional powers properly in six months from now at the wall. Why the wall? I don't know, it sounds like a really cool place and I want to see it. You start walking there and I'll catch up on my dragons half a year from now."

The Wall is one of those things that were no thought trough properly. If it served a real protective service, people would know about the threats it counters. And if people don't know of these threats because they are too far in the past, people, including the Starks, would only speak of the Wall as a penal colony, and would have likely abandoned it. All everyone knows is the Wall keeps out Wildings, who pose no real threat to the Seven Kingdoms and would be excellent for the North to populate the countryside. Either the Wall should have been abandoned centuries ago, or people would know of White Walkers.

@@randeli7785 he didn't know that, also people often seem to forget that the targs aren't just blonde, their hair is literally white and in universe for everyone who is somebody seeing the person with this hair is pretty sus, so probably not a good idea walking around King's landing looking like that, also that's why they hide Rhaenyra's hair in ep 3(just how stupid that setup is is another question)

I'm not saying not having Larys be behind "a son for a son" ruins the scene, but the pieces were all right there. Larys is actively plotting against the Hightowers by attempting to remove Otto as Hand and switching out Alicent's servants. I would frame it like this: move the Alicent/Criston sex scene earlier in the episode and show Larys getting really angry. Have another scene where Daemon talks with Wormy about what she knows about potential hitmen. Then cut to Blood and Cheese meeting for the first time, money changing hands, the specific line "He said there's more when the job is done", and have no mention of Aemond OR the boys. Blood and Cheese happens and the credits roll. Now there's a murder mystery. Who was "he"? Who gave the order? Daemon? Larys? The ghost of Tywin Lannister? The framing makes it look like Daemon did. Maybe have Rhaenyra confront Daemon and he says "the wrong one died. sorry, babe :/" and that fully implicates him. Case closed, right? The big reveal later in the season/series would be absolutely incredible. Larys goes full "incel-meets-JD from Heathers" when he confesses to Alicent as both a proclamation of "love" and also a little jab that he's the one running the show now. All became she porked Rhaenyra's sloppy seconds.

Maybe I'm a bit slow but I never would've thought that Larys is plotting AGAINST HIGHTOWERS because they are essentially the backbone of the green army faction and if that faction loses he's BONED, I thought that by undermining Otto he was angling to be named as the next Hand himself, but being against Otto and being against house Hightower of wich Otto isn't even the head of are different Unlike Petyr in the war of the five kings Larrys pretty much has no leeway in this situation, everyone knows he's one of Alicent's confidants and the greens key people and if the greens lose Harrenhall would be probably stripped away from his house and given to some black loyalist and he himself executed, so he has to stick with them it seems to me And killing Jaehaerys cuts both ways, sure it paints Rhaenyra in bad colors but it also disrupts greens succession which at wartime isn't good

The comparison with the Wet Bandits is spot on. There was also a lot of undeserved suspense in their scenes. Where Cheese freaks out and stares loooong into... an empty room. Or Blood with that spy of Larys's, who disappears immediately. Or the young queen running in something like a slasher movie sequence, but nobody catches her or anything. Oh, and the Wet Bandits just letting her go... And somehow, only ONE of them gets caught? Worst criminals ever, Daemon made an oopsie.

To be fair, Daemon skulking around the red keep is a terrible idea. Everyone knows what he looks like, sending in two nobody’s, one could realistically think they would be able to sneak in and out without raising an alarm.

suppose they reasonably established in s1 that he apparently can reasonably camouflage himself when he had his night out … but yeah still, him getting captured or anything would pretty much lose them war right there. overall i think making daemon the target and then just randomly stumbling over helenna really took a lot away from one of the most harrowing moments in the canon, also didn't expect it to happen so early.

If the only way to reach the royal apartments was to walk through the throne room then it makes sense that Daemon didn’t go himself. Season 1 did establish that it is possible to get to Rhaenyra’s room directly but Ally and Criston were smashing in that room so that wouldn’t have worked. And yes Blood and Cheese must have known Ally and Christon were going to smash at that time because how else could they have predicted that there were going to be no guards and almost no servants wandering around.

Well they were wandering through the place for so long they must've understood it to be poorly guarded, also if there was a guard they might be either abandoned their mission and returned empty-handed or tried to fight their wy through(Blood was imposing and probably would've taken on a hightower soldier, while having no chance against a kingsguard obviously)

As far as the Iron Throne's sheep tax policy, strictly speaking the sheep contributions were only coming from the Crownlands, according to Otto. So I don't know that it's really national policy, since it breaks down by region and is not applied to the entire Seven Kingdoms.

I think as time goes on, and generations tell their stories, the idea of the others became more of a myth. People ended up thinking of them as children's stories and ramblings of old folk. The Night's Watch numbers probably went down because of it. How much time passes before you say, "for shits sake, nothing other than wildlings have ever come to the wall - there are no Others."

@@MiddleEarthGirl75 HOTD Starks knowing about it would entail more recent events with the Others, right? 170 years from them GOT Starks don't know about anything, and we know for at least 200 years since the Targeryens came to Westeros nothing happened in the North so, even if something happened, shouldn't they have already forgotten by the time of HOTD? Them holding some strong belief in the Others seems to be as contrived as Aegon's Dream.

No, you see Criston has an anti-crime field where none of the obvious crimes that he does can be noticed by anyone. He flailed Daemon in the head in the tourney when he had already lost. He seduced and lay with the crown princess and got nothing for it. He openly killed a member of one of the great houses of Westeros at a royal wedding and wasn't punished in any way. He murdered another house member in cold blood at the Green council and nobody, not even the guards did anything about it. When Harold Westerling saw it he disintegrated and disappeared out of reality. Nobody is able to see Criston's crimes. And if they do they just disappear from reality.

3:33 Dreamfyre wasn’t that much of a threat. During the black council it’s said “and ours are bigger except for Vhagar, for dragons grow best on Dragonstone”. Meaning ONLY Vhagar is bigger than the blacks current biggest dragons (Meleys and Caraxes). Dreamfyre was described as not bred for war. Shes slender and is hardly ridden by Helaena. After spending decades in the pit and laying dozens of clutches she’s not in the best shape despite her age. Some dragons do just stop growing when they’ve hit a certain limit, something that’s sometimes overlooked. Even Balerion stopped growing once he was housed in the dragonpit. Edit: it’s also interesting to speculate about Helaena’s part in the war. Eveyone is just assuming she won’t fight. Is this the faith of the seven influencing them? War isn’t a place for women? I just can’t imagine Alicent influencing Helaena to have that Targaryen dragon lord grit like Visenya, Rhaena or Rhaenys.

You're kinda mixing source and making stuff up here. Dreamfyre was described as slender in FaB a hundred years before these events. Also, we have no clue why dragons stop growing. And we have no clue how much Helaena rode her. And, of course Dreamfyre was bred for war. She's a dragon. Rhaena was preparing for war her whole life.

I think Daemon doesn't go into the Red Keep because it's too great a risk if he's caught and either imprisoned or killed. If he went in to kill Aemond himself, he'd bring Dark Sister so if he was taken out before escaping, the blacks lose Caraxes and Dark Sister which most likely goes to Aemond. And as for how B&C would actually kill him, I guess Daemon thinks they'll get him while he's asleep.
