He's always trying to appear super cool and like he's so 'hard' that he's not the kind of person you want to offend, not realizing that the more he attempts to pull off that act the more pathetic and awkward he comes across as. I don't know what he's trying to prove, but he needs to get a grip and realize that if he could just learn to laugh at himself and just clap along with the jokes that he would appear way more 'cool' like he wants to be perceived and that Amstell would probably get bored and leave him alone realizing that he's not affected emotionally by the banter. Amstell just devours people like this who's ego is super inflated, knowing he can easily trigger them with relative ease by just making jokes designed to deflate the terribly fragile sense of warped self pride someone like Preston has. It makes excellent comedy/entertainment lol.
Then a few episodes later, Preston was once again roasted by Professor Green and Frankie Boyle, good thing Frankie wasn't the host or we'd have been reading Preston's obituary shortly after

I remember seeing preston and his guitarist swaggering around the fez club in reading in shades at night , wasnt there to see them it was a week night and they were playing , i agree , very ordinary those ordinary boys
May aswell type this Preston was 100 percent right to have left he was invited to have fun and simon was reading his x wife's book to show how shit he thinks it is and stupid he thinks she is I am not completely against humour like that, but it was wrong for that show in these types of shows you invite all types of people clever and the not so clever and your all on the same side you have to be simon wassent even doing cheeky teasing humour it's ok to do that a bit to make show interesting and funny but you have to be on the same side there was no humor in it l it was just a slaughter it would be a bit wierd if Preston was laughing at it to and at least he was smart enough to know it was not done in a teashing friendly way he came for a fun time and it was just an opportunity to laugh at his wife and get the audience to laugh at his wife in a nasty way
Like 99% of all others on that show, the trick is to have a sense of humour and not be a total wet fart...kinda the whole point of the show - it's banter, roasting and everyone making fools of themselves.
Once he reacted badly to the first joke about the ordinary boys only having 2 fans he was a sitting target, im sure to this day preston wished he'd dealt with this differently
Yeah! I sympathised with him on the taking the piss out of his wife, but when you see how he's acting from the beginning of the show...and then what must have been edited out as well.

Why go on this show if you can't have a laugh at yourself. They were worse in their roasting of Donny tourette yet he took it like a champ. Preston just made things worse by taking himself so seriously.
"It's all entertainment." But we forget these people are human. I am a fan of The Ordinary Boys and their music. I used to follow Preston online and MySpace around 2007-2009. I read his blogs and online diary entries after his divorce to his wife, and his humiliation on this show, and he revealed that he spiraled into a deep mental depression and left the UK for many years. And was in a creative/artistic/existential rut. Thankfully, he later returned to the UK, and wrote hits for Olly Murs and was a songwriter and musician behind the scenes. And still works in the music industry. He has a newborn child now, and is still active social media
I also had a different feeling to others when watching this. It would be different if Simon was reading Preston's book- you go onto a show like that and expect to have the piss ripped out of you, but this was aimed at his wife. Many people can take jokes aimed at them but find it hard to take jokes at people they love. I felt incredibly sorry for him in this clip.

"This Mentality?" Mental health is REAL. Amy Winehouse ALSO was in the public eye and battled mistreatment by the paparazzi and tabloid press and it only served to further fuel her drug and drink issues which ultimately led to her passing. You can't pick and bully someone and expect them to just "tough it out" in the so-called name of comedy when it's outright abuse and lines are crossed. Sure, people can be in on the joke but if THEY are made the joke then it doesn't matter how "thick" ones skin is, it's still traumatic.

Preston was so childish, I mean it's not like they weren't mocking everyone else on the show. Had he never seen a panel show before? The guests and the host taking the piss out of each other is half the fun of these things.
@@samnectar Found this from an alt account (I rarely use that) but yeah I mean that's part of the humour of these shows, you come right back at Simon with something else. It's just odd that Preston wasn't aware of this before going on the show.
@@samnectar That's the show, clearly his agent didn't give him a clear impression as to what to expect and Simon takes just as well as he gets, it's like going on Celebrity Juice and not expecting Keith Lemon to be crude.

@@samnectar From what I hear he'd been on the show before, I don't think Simon intended on bullying Preston just a "Haha your wife's kinda dim" but I do think after Preston walked off Simon did cross the line from good natured mocking to outright bullying. Simply because it got views so they were actively trying to cause another walk-off
Looking back in 2023, I do feel a bit sorry for Preston here. People forget how ruthless live British TV was back then. You only have to look at what happened to Chris Eubank, who was mocked relentlessly. Who somehow managed to stomach it. Look at how will smith reacted to his partner being mocked. Then look at Preston. He had enough of his partner being mocked for her book which I'm sure he knows she put effort into. All he did was walk off. I still find it funny and it's a legendary TV moment. But I don't have an issue with the guy for it. I think many people would've done the same. You only have to be caught on a bad day.
The marriage was already failing at this stage, it was more likely just shame. Also, in the whole episode you see Preston was pissed off from the beginning when Amstell said his band only had two fans.
Preston was already getting butt hurt at simon's jokes even before simon pulled out his wife's book! Preston takes himself way too seriously and acted like a diva when he wasnt in a position to do so! The only thing Preston is remembered for is storming off this show!
You clearly haven’t watched the show, he’s read out snippets of biographies in other shows. He did it to Anthea Turner too and she laughed along and didn’t have a tantrum over it.

I feel sorry for Preston. The look he was giving clearly meant "Say one more thing about my wife and I'm off". He'd already put up with alot of flack over his wife, and was just not going to be part of it anymore.
@Gary Pendleton Anyone going on the show now they'll be taken the mick out of. It would be like Corbyn going on Have I got News For You and not expecting to get made fun of, its what they do. This wasn't the full episode and Preston huffed like a pathetic teenage girl from the start of the episode. Donny was less embarrassing on the show because at least he could take it on the chin instead of being a fanny about it.
@Liam Ward To his credit I will say that famous people appear on dozens of shows, most of which they haven't seen. You can't expect them to do deep research on each and every show that waves a cheque.
@Liam Ward When he went into the CBB'06 house he said to Pete Burns "I know who you are" - someone who was only big in Japan and hasn't been famous in the UK since the '80s. He definitely knew all about Buzzcocks he just doesn't "get"/"enjoy" mickey-taking. I like to make fun of people and it's not a given that people tolerate it. On CBB he and Chantelle didn't like the video the housemates filmed consisting entirely of the housemates mickey-taking each other.

It's edited for broadcast If you look at the top of his t-shirt at 4:05 he has no mic, then in the next shot he does, they're not going to broadcast 5 minutes of someone getting a mic put on and sound testing it
When I first watched this as a student, I had the same reaction as everyone else and just thought that Preston was a prima donna twat. But with a bit more mileage on me now, I'm borderline on Preston's side here. Amstell spent the entire time mocking his wife, not him. I'm not sure what else he could've done in that situation.
He should have fired back. Everyone knows that the show was harsh and Amstell was ruthless. Either fight back or don't go on; but storming out looked pathetic.
