So glad to see Nicolas getting more exposure. A selfish part of me wants to keep his audience small because I feel like he is a hidden gem now. But he is clearly going places! Good for him and thanks for putting him on.
I have been an avid viewer of Physionics for quite a while. Nicolas has given me such understandable content about molecular biology that I actually purchased a textbook to help me study the concepts in greater detail. Thank you Dr. Lyon for interviewing Nicolas! Hopefully more people will be introduced to the remarkable work of this humble scientist.
I have been a Physionic subscriber for quite while and, I still watch your channel. Nic exactly described a major part of my personal philosophy for my life and, the remainder of it. I am 60. My primary goal, with my wife, is to be able do whatever we want, whenever we want without being limited by my physical capacity until the end. We workout 6-7 days/wk, including our sports. My son initiated us to interior rock climbing last year. My limitations were and still are my technique and, not strength and endurance. At 60 and older, we can workout hard and still building strength and endurance to mitigate the aging effect.
I help people who can't do their activities of daily living get services like caregiving or personal care services. I have been in this field a long time. After following This podcast for awhile now, I have started asking some of these people more or less when things got difficult or when they started needing more help. Most of these people are older but I really do want to know from them. I've had people tell me that it happened really suddenly where they had no strength one day and started feeling tired. I have had some individuals tell me it was indeed after a surgery via spinal or hip where they found they never regained their muscle strength. I've also had some tell me I used to exercise all the time and be thin and then suddenly gain weight. There is definitely a lack of muscle in alot of these individuals but I do feel like some of them, just didnt see it coming. Thank you for this podcast.
I was diagnosed in 1990 ( age: 28) while in Army with mitochondria transport deficiency since I had a peak and subsequent decline in lactate transport were abnormally delayed suggesting a defect in lactate transport or in mitochondrial phosphorylation or in electron transport. ( had two muscle biopsies) Initially I was in the ER and admitted at Walter Reed with a CPK at 21,000. Per doctors I did not have an heart attack. Dr. Fishbein at NIH felt that I might be missing a mitochondrial enzyme. Yes, I have the detailed 3 page letter which is more in depth. I am taking CoQ10 and vitamin D3. I am 61 and I workout with weights 3-4 days per weights. Wonder what else I can supplement. Thanks for a great video.
Nicolas who I've listened to at Physionics for quite a while is awesome along with you of course Dr. Lyon. I love the science behind much of the exercise and nutrition information out there. I've been at this for over 50 years as far as researching both diet and exercise which was very hard decades ago because info was hard to come by. You really had to research at different levels. Now, you can find excellent info from real scientists and/or experts who don't have agendas and simply want to find factual answers to the volumes of good and bad info floating around the internet
I suffered for years with chronic fatigue, but I assumed everyone felt the same same way as I did. After having my son, I had chronic bouts of mastitis where I spiked a fever of 105. I’m not entirely sure what the fever did, but I have felt fabulous for the last eight years since. Sometimes I wonder if it killed a virus or it just revitalize my mitochondria.
I came across your podcast on Thomas Delauer's channel and this is me first time listening to it. It is great! You share most valuable and applicable information for nonprofessional audience. One thing I cannot find anyone addressing is pregnancy and protein and exercise / energy management. That may be food for thought since there may be other women who struggle or have struggled with health, protein and weight management during their pregnancies. But there is not much talk about this out there ... Much love!
so happy just finished watching your conversation with Dr.Layman ( as I was doing my weight training ) and this conversation came up as the next program 😊 I do follow Nicholas , n I just started taking creatine after listening to him . I take it after my workout . I do think he's brilliant !! Thank you Dr Lyon for having him on your show . And I would never stop watching your program, I turned 65 this week and because of you I just finished making my 40 GM protein pancakes 🥞🥞. Never felt better in my life !! And please tell Nicholas that he still doesn't get my social security number 😅 my brain is working fine 😅😅 have a beautiful day !!
A Balance Component and/or demanding Resonance with an impliment that is oscilating or changing vector rapidly is a key way to achieve Neurological enhancement. Of course the basic Power stuff where speed under load is emphasized like with bands and chains is good also. Alternating cossack lunges while Kettlebell alt Overhead Press ala Steve Cotter is the ultimate. Other examples , one leg deadlift, Nunchuck practice, Overhead Kettlebell Windmill, Bofyblade etc... are majority emphasis on Neurological function because the nerves are working in 2 ways not only firing the various muscles but feedback must be gathered on the changing vector of the impliment or our posture in realtime in order to maintain the resonance with the impliment used or to prevent falling over which adds adrenaline since danger is a component there. As we age this should be priority. THANKS
Where can I get the oral hyauloronic acid you were discussing on your podcast? You’ve been the best thing for me, my life has improved and I just discovered you!!! Thanks so much!
I want the good almost-doctor to read bedtime stories to me. Seriously though, great conversation. I’ll find his channel and I’ll keep listening to yours, too. I learn new info and get re-motivated every time.
I'm 70 and have been using 5 g of creatine for the last 4 years, but upped it to 10 g several months ago when I started seeing the research on people my age. I'm not sure I've seen any noticeable changes, but trust it is helping me in subtle, long-term ways.
Thank you for the great episode Dr. Lyon! I would love it at some point if you could address whether oral hyaluronic acid supplementation for skin health should be high or low molecular weight. This seems to differ between products, and I can't for the life of me seem to find any sort of consensus online. Thank you!
I eat grass fed/grass finished but still take 5g of Creatine. I am not a body builder and I am not worried about being "puffy" in the face. As a person ages and they loose that extra fat, it's also lost in the face. However, it's different from a younger person that can loose weight in the face and not look aged. So, I hope, as I loose more weight, I keep a little puff in the face. No need for fillers. 💉I'm guessing that's how it works but "Physionics" may have the details.
I don’t mind the adds but please don’t put them in the middle of or right after your questions. It’s annoying and you don’t have to use a “cliff hanger” technique here. We want to watch. Much love. ❤
From my experience, grandparents react to aging based on the dynamics of the family and culture. My mom's side of the family does not have that Hispanic culture to it, so my mom's dad, my grandpa, when alive, did not want to be waited on. He was physically active. That can be good and bad, since he passed away while trying to fix his car on the side of the road. He had a heart attack. My grandma, however, on my dad's side of the family comes from a traditional Hispanic culture, where she is supposed to be the matriarch. So, as the caretaker, I scheduled physical therapy for her and she was hurt by that. She did well on the physical therapy, as I knew she would, but there is a fear for older ones of being worked too hard or being abandoned or being disrespected. So, the fact that Nicholas also has a background in psychology is helpful to understand the aging experience. 🧠👴👵
Love this topic abt the nerve cells and muscle cells and how deeply connected they are especially a main nerve/neutron that controls multiple muscles. After experiencing shingles a few weeks ago on my left posterior chain, I had suffered muscle atrophy after one week of excruciating pain. Totally makes sense. Thank you @drgabriellelyon
Re minute 1:12…thanks for the unexpected skin tips LOL! I didn’t even know there was oral HA, but I have used the topical version. I do get greatly annoyed at all the millions of products marketed for skin, and it’s a crap shoot to find ones that work. End up with a bunch taking space that don’t work. Review of research, greatly appreciated.
11:17 and Im tuning OUT of this podcast. Second AD within 11 minutes. I will find a podcast that doesn’t force me to pull put my phone 7 times to skip through ADS. Too bad because the information is great but my time is more valuable.
Her Ads are usually upfront got pay for things somehow. The flip side is yet another paid subscription. I have to listen to pod casts like this at 1.5 speed and over a couple days.
@@Minisquid100 it is tough when the free information turns into what her podcast has turned into. LISTEN TO HER BEGINNING PODCAST. You won’t find as many ADS.
Why not? Teenagers don’t need to take very much. If they are weight lifters or if they are in athletics and sweating a lot and using up a lot of energy they could use appropriate additional electrolytes, amino acids/protein, healthy fats, vitamins and Creatine. If you use up all your resources you need to replace them. Most young people eating a healthy diet will get most of what they need. But a healthy diet does not always happen. The greater need is for those who are older and active in athletics, exercise, weight lifting, running and cycling for significant distances, etc. it’s also very useful for older people. .. Good for brain and body. You might check out several podcasts. You e we I’ll get some good information on some of them.
I am 72. You are an exception compared to a majority of folk. The information is correct. You probably have good personal knowledge and experience regarding amino acids, Creatine, electrolytes, a healthy diet and stretching, etc. A lot of people should listen and get motivated to start doing physical stuff which they are not currently doing. For many it is too late because they have decades of bad habits they don’t intend to change. That is unfortunate.
Consider Essential amino acids… Perfect aminos . Optimal aminos . Two you can trust, but the second generally costs much less. These are good products. Google some info… … There is a huge reason why Essential amino acids are completely superior to Branch Chain Aminos. Regarding the facts on Essential Amino Acids I suggest listening to podcasts with Dr. David Minkoff, MD interviewed by Coach Debbie Potts and one with Dr. Mindy Potts. Also, one with Dr. Joy King, MD. (Your Missing Amino Acids). And other interviews with him. Also, be sure to listen to Dr. Robert (Bob) Wolfe, phD, interviewed by Sean McCormick (Optimal Amino Acid Nutrition). Optimal Performance Broadcast. And other interviews with him. Both are long time triathletes. Both are very knowledgable on the subject. Both have created products to deal with the problem. Both have had their products used by extreme athletes who have profited. Both have seen uses for the older generation’s needs. Both have seen people who were overweight have better and healthier success losing fatty weight and maintaining muscle mass and energy while using appropriate essential amino acids. I would strongly suggest interviews with these two gentlemen. The stories are not the same. One is 76 years old. The power of their words and knowledge is overwhelming.
