Learn how to prevent gaps or holes when you resume knitting in rounds after working in rows during the heel shaping.
This technique works for toe-up or top down short row heels, toe-up or top down (flapless) gusset heels and toe-up gusset and flap heels.

Interesting, I use the Fish Lips Kiss heel pattern. I only get a hole on the right side with heel facing me, the left is perfectly fine. It really helps to know what’s actually causing the problem. I would get a crochet hook and pull on the loose yarn until it tightened the hole, sort of like picking up a dropped stitch then I’d knit two stitched together butI think I can fix it now, thank you.

Thank you for this video. I do have a question about the decrease twin stitch left on either side of the row; that part is still unclear to me. Will this work in that case, please?

They are addi needles. I know they are available on the Makers' Mercatile website as well as many local yarn stores.

If I use this on a toe up heel flap pattern, then as you said I wouldn't do the last WS row and just knit in the round again, incorporating those two last decreases which would close the gap. But if I do that, wouldn't that mean that my flap is missing two rows in heigt (the WS row and the RS row to get to the starting point of yours to start knitting in the round). How would I adjust for this please? Would I just work one increase row more so that I have the same flap heigt? I'm thinking about how to adjust this all afternoon already 🥲

Try shifting your thoughts a little. Your flap won't necessarily be missing any rows. In this case a flap "row" is just half the round. However, if you're working your flap in some sort of stitch pattern, you will need to translate the stitches in your WS row. Since you're working in the round again, you'll have the RS facing you as you knit. Hope that makes sense.

@@thechillydog so the first row of knitting in the round would be the last row of my flap. And if this is for example in honey comb pattern then in this first round I would still knit the pattern. But on the RS instead the WS so I have to adjust here. I think I get it 😅 Thank you so much for your help! It is so valuable especially since I don’t have anyone who also knits

You should have held the knitted piece closer to the camera and showed the procedure more slowly. Too bad. Did you make Shadowraps or German Shortrows?
