Again, the jews didn't get the memo when Jesus clarified that mentally lusting over someone is not quite as bad as physically doing it but a serious sin nonetheless, by accepting their Messiah they will come to the fullness of the truth. It's hard to let go of sin when there's no real way of atonement for sins in Judaism because it's fulfillment is in Catholicism.

I'm surprised Shapiro isn't more in line with Fradd's distinction between lust and sexual value. It seems to be ironic that the author of Porn Generation, which quite effectively exposed the moral decline in our entertainment culture in film and music - a decade before things even further deteriorated with popular hookup culture apps - wouldn't be more in line with Fradd's viewpoint.

@marchess286

Prager didn't say looking at porn is good. He said that it can be a rather minor act in the context of a full and good life of an otherwise good person. He also said that the contemporary manifestation of porn is a bad thing. In the original interview he condemned the "porn-ification of society (his term)" and described many of its evil effects. He also made clear with respect to his father, that the porn he was looking at was the relatively mild "cheesecake" of the 1950s and early 60s (a woman posing for still pictures with genitals covered). Prager also said his view differs from normative Orthodox Judaism. What I find odd is the obsession of Matt, or the obsession of an audience to whom he is pandering with porn at the expense of other moral issues. For example, he doesn't seem too concerned with gossip and slander, even to the extent of speaking about Prager's father as a person who performed horrible acts.
@JohnCenaFan6298
@JohnCenaFan6298 Год назад
@@marchess286 is the minor act good or bad, did he say? I cannot remember. but still, its worse to double down and say that such a sin is not evil. its already grave sin on the face of it, venial if it was immodest and it met a certain lesser criteria. But yh, impurity is a problematic sin. It makes it difficult to see the presence of God. A good person is also someone who is a practicing Catholic

Just a thought, but "seed" (sometimes translated offspring or descendants, but the term most literally means seed) is a theme throughout Genesis (and scripture as a whole) that traces from God promising Eve that her "seed" would crush the serpent's head (Genesis 3:15) to Abraham's "seed" blessing the nations (Genesis 12:1-7), to David's "seed" reigning on the throne forever (2 Samuel 7:12), to Paul finally identifying Christ as the "Abraham's seed" (Galatians 3:16). There are a bunch more references to it, I just hit the high points. So perhaps when Onan was killed for spilling the "seed," he was being punished for refusing to carry on the Messianic line. He didn't just have the responsibility to give his brother a child, he had the responsibility to keep the promise given to Eve and Abraham alive. By rejecting that responsibility, the fate of the world was quite literally at stake. The line only ended up being preserved by Tamar's sinful seduction and Judah's foolish failure to resist (worked out through God's sovereignty of course).

In world where we have 9/11, the rape of Nanking, the murder of Junko Furuta, the Ariel Castro kidnappings, the holocaust, child soldiers, Peter Scully's murdering of children, and innumerable mass shootings in living memory, it seems absolutely asinine to call masturbation a mortal sin. No, Matt. Every woman who has ever complained about feeling or being usee by her husband has been used, abused, or objectified by her husband. These are bad, That does not make it lust. Your definition of lust is wrong. Lust does not mean reducing someone to their sexual value. Lust means intense desire. In Christian theology lust means intense desire for someone you ought not to desire. For goodness sake we still have words with the real non-sexual meaning of lust in the English language. Words like wanderlust and bloodlust.
@fruzsimih7214
@fruzsimih7214 Год назад
Lust is also one of the seven cardinal sins, and has been for centuries in the English language, so what's your point? Wanderlust ist a German leanword. In German, the word Lust does have sexual connotations, but in everyday language, it is more used as saying 'I'd like to do something'. (I'm a native-level German speaker, btw.)
@HoradrimBR
@HoradrimBR Год назад
"Bloodlust" and I could add "lust for power" are analogue uses for a bad thing. Lust is a disordered desire. From the catholic tradition perspective, a possible error from Matt (in fact, from the personalist theology that is his source) is a too optimistic view that a completelly selfless and lustless carnal union with one's spouse is feasible. In fact, it's very hard not to objetify somehow one another in some level during the act. Even if the couple is completelly preserved from any cultural negative influence, there's the original sin. However, so long we focus on the mutual love, inside healthy boundaries, this "residual lust" is not a grave problem.
@lisacup6876

I get tired of people trying to justify their sin, aka lust. I noticed Prager was doing it. All I think is," he must suffer with lust and/or pornography because he is very defensive about it!"
