I decided to drop epic seven because of the price of this one I hope there isn't to many other games besides senkokushen coming out in the next few months cause I can't get all these games :/
@@MrScrawnjuan actually I am talking about a game called Aeon Trespass Odyssey. They are currently taking late pledges. Although I do also love Aeons End.
Will we see this release available for pre order from online retailers right before it ships to backers? Likely then with free shipping since it is over $100 and at a steep discount from msrp. Not trying to pick on this campaign specifically but it seems like this is becoming a trend. Realistically if these sculpts live up to the pictures I think what is in the core can justify the price for me as a painter. But I have a big enough backlog as is and the gameplay doesnt interest me too much.
Love your videos as always. I was so hyped for this game but it feels so expensive for what I think is just a deck battling card game. At its heart you build a deck and battle a monster. The miniatures are gorgeous and the gameplay looks great but I can’t justify the price when other games (Aeon Trespass Odyssey) have so much more in there core box for less money. Not to mention Aeon Trespass also has an epic story. This feels like a bunch of one off battles with some small stories to set the scene. Cost wise I am just going to spend what I would have on Primal on the Aeon expansions, Five Sacrafices, or save it for Monster hunter world.
I felt it was as close to apples to apples as I could get it. Compared minis oathsworn price to primal price. Oathsworn offers ~24 game sessions to fight everything, primal offers about the same. That being said, I believe Oathsworn to be the better deal. Oathsworn is a better deal than just about anything else but a KS backing of KDM. It was sold at almost cost and didn't even make a dollar of profit until thousands and thousands had been sold. It's comparing a product from a company that's trying to use it to gain market awareness to a game from a company trying to make money like most others so a bit odd in that sense. Hopefully it's at least a fruit to fruit comparison :D
Mmmm... yeah but no. Oathsworn price was $99 for the core box, AND $179 with the minis box. Sure, it's expensive, but you can go with standees for a hundred bucks and play no problem. Here, you have to pay almost the same for, in my opinion, less things. I'm a bit sad, but I think I'll pass on this one...
Eh, you can grab the images of the cards and do a PnP for almost free. I'm not too concerned with trying to determine how cheap I can game and am instead focused on the game itself, and if it seems fairly priced for what's offered. That being said, it's almost impossible to beat Oathsworn in pricing and I'd warn against comparing too hard or nothing much will match up. Shadowborne games are on record saying they sold it at almost cost to the point where they only made money days into that explosive campaign after selling thousands of copies. They did this to establish themselves and that's a fair move on their part, but not one we can expect every company to do. It's like comparing KDM prices now to the when it was on KS knowing that Poots lost money selling at that cheap price.
You're the one that compared It to Oathsworn :/ But I still think it's a bit pricey, even if the minis are bigger than normal. There are other games with expensive core boxes, but here we're talking about 140€ for a boss rush, with little story. I'm sorry but it's just not worth It. Not for me, at least.
@@takamichitakahata7116 my thoughts exactly. It’s a game where you build a deck and battle a boss for 30 minutes. It seems like a better version of Marvel Champions 😂 but 4 times the price strictly for the minis.
@@TheKingofAverage so we can't compare it to cmon, shadowborne, dragori, mythic, battle systems ltd, poot, awaken realms....... is there anyone left that's not selling a core box below the 5x multiplier in hopes of pushing a larger numbers of copies and addons to carry the financials?
Oathsworn is a great comparison to absolutely destroy this game in terms of content. Primal has no true focus on story, no optional companion app w/ James Olmos narrating, half the boss encounters, and extremely limited combat by comparison. All for $15 less. Yeah. . .
Oathsworn was sold at almost cost and only made money days into the campaign after selling thousands and thousands of copies. Was a huge gamble and was done not to make money but to establish themselves in the gaming world (and it worked) - it's awesome for us consumers for sure, but not quite a fair comparison. Everything on KS pales in comparison to the deal we got on Oathsworn IMO. Also, just because there's a better deal doesn't make the other deal bad, just not as good. But to each their own. Oathsworn provides ~24 game sessions worth of boss battles before going through other game modes, etc. Primal offers 15 for one play through but you miss more of them than Oathsworn from what I can tell, so a second playthrough to fight everything nets you around 30ish (a bit less most likely) game sessions. Not quite apples to apples, but let's not pretend there's not quite a bit of game here. 30ish sessions is more then all of Death May Die, or Zombicide, etc. provides in their all ins or perhaps about the same, and that's normally around $350ish.
@@TheKingofAverage Fair enough. Between the two for me personally I’d rather the well rounded game for a similar price. I went HAM in 2020 and need to cut back and keep expectations real for how much gaming I can get through. 😉
The world building, story, and miniatures in Oathsworn and Aeon Trespass Odyssey look way better to me, so I think I'll stick with those two and pass on this one.
When you see those oddly specific funding goals, you can typically hover over the icon next to the funded amount and see what currency it was based in, in this case, 150,000 pounds, which in USD gets you that odd ~180,000. :)
As always loving your vids KOA. Im all in for primal. Do me a favour though....fallen knight a game you teased before is out and my god it needs help. It needs to be pulled asap before it falls over with one of the worst campaign pages ever. It tells us nothing....so much concern in the comments section Cheers :)
thanks for doing these videos. They're great. One thing, can you work on improving your sound? it's a bit distracting. I've coached over 100 people on their sound for doing videos/courses. Happy to help if you need any.
Well you get 13 monsters in the core at $168 (with possibly more in the stretch goals), for an additional $120ish it only adds 6 more monsters, so while I love the monsters in the venom pack I think I might downgrade to just the core pledge by the time the pledge is done, it seems the trend of expansions not being worth the investment continues...
Man was so excited for this one but with the entry price point and some of the minis seeming a bit subpar IMO which is obviously subjective I think this is going to end up in the pass category for me
I was impressed to see how many monsters were in the core box. 13 seems like quite a lot of big monsters. I'm cool with the price, and I actually went for the all in. Although I'm in the US so shipping doesn't hit me as hard as some other places. I was spending some time reading the campaign rules, and it seems interesting at the potential breadth of build options. It also seems to have some Gloomhavenish elements to the campaign scenarios themselves, which is interesting. That being said....yeah, a lot of the designs do feel a bit on the generic side. I'm all about the crab though!
I was really looking forward to this game but the gameplay just seems ok and a non existent story makes it a pass for me. The minis almost got me to pledge though, they look great.
I jumped on the early bird just to make sure it's secure if I want to keep this. Not sure what I'll do yet, but I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the video and all the info!
The miniatures look like they are clay sculpted. Not sure if that is so, but they made it look like it. I don't really see the appeal with boss battlers, games like KDM. But this game is killing it on KS.
The early bird is misleading with numbers for now, since it is almost $300 and people will back blindly to cancel later. My guess is there will be a lot of churn towards the end, possibly even on a downswing.
Great, detailed video! I am just going for the core pledge with the 5th player expansion added on. The other expansions just don't seem like good value when compared to the core pledge.
Looks great! i think i will have to wait till late pledge since Mythic Battles is just around the corner and i want an ALL in on that, i wish they were a bit more appart. but thanks for the video man
Regarding the MIC, I assume that you have the stereo enabled. I do not think it is a great idea regarding podcasting etc. It is more intended for intrument/band recording. Great analysis as always, will not be bothered with primal since I consider it to be expensive. Although artistically is top notch
I just backed the early bird right before this vid came out. I was basically saving up for this game for months, when I should be saving up for a new car lol.
I already backed Oathsworn and Townsfolk Tussle. So no boss battles this year for me........................Maybe? I have to be strong.......to late, backed it. I'm proud I tryed to ignore it! ;-)
"EB Gameplay all-in" vs "Gameplay all-in" only seems to be 10€ savings from their KS page tho.. So not an amazing EB, how ever, good for those that are not there the first 24h that they don't miss out massively.
Yeah go figure I wasn't share that there would be an all-in outside of the EB, but it makes sense. So no matter what I pretty good deal ($37 saved versus $47 saved).
I've backed for 1 € for now, price point on this thing is huge and friendly shipping seem to have lost its meaning in the EU so I'll wait for more info, but probably I'll have to pass this one
@@eriklindqvist9923 Good to know that, still where I live (poland) government doesn't like EU and makes extra taxes every few weeks so I'm not sure if I'll be able to avoid those, time will tell.
Yeah man. The new cam hase changed visual and audio. The sound has much more bass. E: It's €150K. If you hover over the $ in the arrow ring it should tell you the currency and number used. E2: I don't like that backer monster unless it's gonna be seperate from the elements. Like a mini-super boss just under the awakened. Or an alternative to it. Or something above it. E3: Nice to have someone else go over the details and I just listen. I've read the page as well but nice to listen. Good video.
@@TheKingofAverage I read this in the campaign comments and wanted to swing it by you! Instead of a singular combat board, a spiral book (like Gloomhaven JOTL) containing various combat boards themed for the different beast elements. It would only need 5 double-sided pages (for 9 elements and 1 for The Awakened). And maybe one more page for a nice cover. How cool would that be!?
Completely turned off by paying for VAT being in the US. (Confirmed by creator vat is priced in). Wouldn’t back even if this wasn’t a bad overall value.
@@bassmeo3937 nope. Only campaigns by creators from Europe do that. That means that the price could be lower, because the VAT is not included in the price for other countries like the US. So yeah... Other countries subsidize the VAT in Europe.
Totally agree. I also don't like it but because the company is within Europe they include the VAT in the price. It's bad for all other people outside of Europe.
@@bassmeo3937 tell that to everyone who backed massive darkness 2 that is paying their VAT right now. Up until this year there were a lot of people cheating on VAT, but due to changes in VAT reporting this year you have two options, bake it in or charge for it later. You're going to have companies picking between the two from 2021 onward, or trying to skirt EU law (which will be harder to do).
It's amazing. It's already only about $10 a mini for these large minis in the core pledge but then you get 4 hunter minis and a whole game on top of it.
And you know it will end up discounted on mini market for pre order with free shipping. So why bother backing? Seeing this a lot so it really wouldnt surprise me.
@@Twineandribbon seeing them with the 'exclusives' and stretch goals on mini market more and more. Does this campaign even have anything it claims to be exclusive? Or just stretch goals? Mini market just backs shit at a bulk discount and re sells.
@@zacharytackett2617 I believe the stretch goals were all exclusives but aside from that the rest of the box has no defined plans aside from an intention of pursuing retail options later. I didn't know Mini Market sold kickstarter exclusive versions. That's hot info. Do they make any notation indicating such or have you just found kickstarter only games that you ordered and found they contained the exclusives?
I am excited for this, but looking at the shipping cost and what you save by backing - I think I'll just wait till this hits retail. That way I have a year or two to think if I really need another big box game.
Still curious how Monster Hunter will stack up to this. Really don't want to have two very similar games when I can only bring one to the table. This looks cool but the price is kinda up there. Backed the minimum to access the PM, but doubt MH will have any info before this goes to the PM and payment is due.
yeah, would like to know more about the combat and stuff. I like the monster hunting idea and using monster parts to uppgrade gear. Im not a great fan of card building though. So i dont think ill be going for this game. I hope Monster hunter has some more exploration and stuff like that. Though it do look fun. if i had a friend who got it, i would be happy to play it.
I’m actually surprised this game wasn’t shut down now that MH was officially licensed. I mean the only thing literally missing from this game is palicos. I’d be concerned about litigation moving forward after the campaign wraps.
@@JodouTR they mentioned in the comments they verified and are not infringing on any copyright. Starting the grnre/theme of fighting giant minatures is nothing new see games like MH, Final Fantasy, etc. It's imagine they did their legal homework, especially since one of the monsters looks like Godzilla lol
This looks interesting, but looking looking the shipping cost is basically equal to what you would save compared to MSRP. So I guess I will wait for this to hit retail. The only reason why I see myself backing this is if the stretch goals will be good enough and worth the value. I'll keep an eye on it
I was interested until I saw the price tag. EB is ONLY for ALL-IN pledge. And then I wonder if this is another campaign from a publisher promising you get it at the best price and first, just to find out in a year that the game is available in retail sooner and at a lower price. This happened many times. And not a single word about VAT. With the new laws in EU this is a must „talk about“. The publisher is Italian based, so they should know.
Between you and cmon you got a lot to answer for as now I've backed 🤣 while the value looks reasonable the price is steep, I think it will come down to how good the stretch goals are in order to confirm it versus waiting for retail. Off to a great funding start, no pressure then...
Beyond hyped. I have been looking forward to this KS for a LONG time! All in! Seen a lot of complaints about the price but honestly I think it is reasonably priced.
Hehe yeah sticker shock can be a real thing. An all-in of around $300 for a ton of giant miniatures and a great card game attached to it seems okay to me, but I think the scale of these are lost on a lot of people. 100mm+ for all monsters is pretty insane.
It kinda sucks that nowadays every single boardgame uses miniatures excuse to put their game in sky high price point. Most of the time they do not even have gameplay value. I feel like those hobbies have to be separated somehow...
You think? I think it's easy to not realize how large these guys are. ~$10 for 100mm+ miniatures is an insane deal better than any I've seen in other games besides maybe Oathsworn which sold almost at cost. That's of course exclusing the 1,200+ cards and such of course.
@@TheKingofAverage I'll keep an eye on this, but the overall monster design looks different from the first wyvern they revealed, and I find myself not quite liking a good amount of them (the monster with big shieldlike ears is the worst to me)
Agreed. Everything looks like a slight variation on "Big Wyvern/Dragon", "Big head Trex", or "Big Cat/wolf". I have a bunch of dragons, and more on the way.
It's actually a really expensive mic (well not the most expensive, but enough - an NTG4) that's new and I've obviously got some settings wrong - will look into fixing it for next time!
I went all-in 10 minutes after the Kickstarter opened. From what I've seen of the game so far, it looks great, and I don't expect I'll back out of it. Michael, do you know if there's more to the campaign than using crafting to upgrade your gear between fights? Is there much in the way of narrative or a branching story-line? Also FYI: your audio still sounds wonky.
Seems like the monster design is ripped off Monster Hunter, then made a bit more generic so it isn't infringement. Multiple slightly different wyverns/dragons, some big headed dinosaurs, and the occasional cat/wolf/thing with spikes instead of fur. Miniatures may be big, but resounding meh. Only focusing on combat and upgrades, not on world, story, or interaction means it is directly swinging at Aeon Trespass, Knight Forlorn, and of course KDM who all seem more creative and worthwhile.
The monster design is really uninspired, only their Rathalos clone, Pazis and Toramat are really interesting. The rest just look super generic or have poor proportions.
@@bobjenkon507 spot on! I really could not get drawn into the minis on this one. I thought it was just me and my kickstarter fatigue but you sum it up well.
Being the kind of guy who have 600+ hours on my monster hunter freedom 2 on my psp, I am obviously in. But the frustrating part is that there is an actual monster hunter world kiclstarter coming later this year. But we don't know anything about it, and when it launch. So it's the kind of situation where you hope you will not back one, and realise later that you like the second one better.
This is their second game as their last one seemed like it flopped. Not every first time publisher will hit a home run on their first produced game so there’s a clear learning curve, and I accept that. Even with the early bird and taking the mini sizes into consideration, the price for the all in is still too high because of what it’s promising. Just seems too ambitious for how things have been going with some KS’s and shipping issues. A 14 day campaign seems odd. Not that it needs to be long but why so short? This game is going to need all the money it can get so I assume they have big plans for the pledge manager (late pledges). I assume the late pledge will be open for awhile as that’s money they’re banking on. I’ll pass but keep an eye on it just to see how it all unfolds. Hope it all goes well for whomever backed it.
This one pains me. It does look great. It's a pretty good price for what they are pitching. A lot of content. But then I look at my shelves, my KS logs and the untouched KDM and I struggle to figure out how to justify it. After shipping and such I'm looking at ~$500CAD. Maybe I'll win the lottery!
Have you seen some of the other games? This is very reasonable price. Getting an expansion for under 50 with to minitures and all the other items that go with it is very very good
At least one more monster we'll be deciding on it seems! Having that many 100+mm miniatures and at least 24 (most likely more) play sessions before you've seen all the content in just the campaign once seems small to you? I was just looking at Nova Aetas: Renaissance that wanted $20 for a 75mm miniature and $5 for a 150mm miniature and 3 normal sized ones. If we applied that pricing (not including the 1,200+ cards and such) to this the game would be closer to $600+
@@MerrillWhiteKalEl like the king of average said this is cheap just for the minis. He even mentioned oathswarn in the video. Honestly this is one of the most adorable all in big mini game I have seen in a long while
@@derekmong2427 it's just a shame the minis are redundant in the game from what I've seen. It could be a great deckbuilder at half the price and they could run a separate campaign selling to people who are miniature hobbyists maybe?
I only pick if I see renders that don't seem to reflect something that can actually be on the final mini. Here from what I looked at there's nothing here that couldn't transfer well to an physical miniature, especially given their large size. Actually the hunters might need some thickening, I'll take a closer look at their renders soon.
The timing of this KS is terrible for me. I have to pledge $1 and hope for late PM opening if I want this, which is unfortunate. Been hyped for the game for a long time too, even though it turned out to be a bit different from what I was expecting.
looks super cool but what is essentially a card game with Mini's. Not sure I can justify the almost $265 CAD for core pledge. That includes shipping but still! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
I paid $135 CAD for gloomhaven. $150 less than the core box of this game and that game is pretty big and very highly rated. I guess thays kind of my point. I have a ton of minis from all of my other games, so minis alone dont interest me any more. I'm on mini overload. Just another big bix to take up space on my shelf.
I feel the scupt design isn't the best. There are a lot of tiny textures which are too small to show up on plastic. So the final product will have a lot of flat areas. It's kind of false advertising to show a render with these details on skin/capes which will be gone in the final product.
Hmm I'll have to take another look. Perhaps I've been too focused on the sculpt designa nd not enough on the details. It is nice that everything is so "big" though at lesat.
I’m a little conflicted because all the monsters I’ve seen in promo art that made me like the game are in expansions and this is already an expensive game. Too bad Kickstarter can’t have a layaway option🤷♂️
I’m fairly new to Kickstarter, is there a way to back this game now with some of the cost and come back later with more? Like if I pledge $1 it says I get access to the pledge manager, is that where I could add more funds to pick what I want?
That is bad news for people from the US. That means that the price could be way lower and that people from all other parts of the world subsidize the VAT for people from Europe.
I'm pleasantly surprised by the price of this. I was on the fence about getting core but now the prices have been announced I'm considering grabbing the early bird all in. Obviously shipping will push the price way up but even allowing for this the price of the miniatures alone seems excellent.I know some will call it plastic tax but I'll get 100+ hours of pleasure painting core + expansions.
I find it hilarious that the Monster Hunter Board Game was announced after Primal and spoke of the exact same game mechanics. Primal copies Monster Hunter but the MH board game copies Primal lol.
When painting the colorful models like the bird dino i dont know how to blend the colors i don't have a air brush so how would I make the colors blend and gradually change without it being just stripes of colors because I had that problem with tha ahket model for super fantasy brawl the end result was good but I couldn't get that gradual change in color. I use citadel paint and only started painting last year so I'm pretty new
I'd suggest checking out kujo painting he has a lot of blending vids of reasonable length. also artis opus does a lot of stippling and dry brushing videos, they are a brush company though.
Two options mainly: glazing - which is SUPER easy and almost impossible to mess up on as you're working with VERY watered down paints but it takes a long time, or wet blending which is also easy on big areas like that though you can mess it up but it's MUCH faster. Simply lay down the paint of one color, then the adjacent color and with a clean brush move side to side while going across the two colors back and forth until blended.
So my wallet, like most, has a limit. I have strongly been considering Tanares Adventures + Arena: the Contest 1.5. I know you also love that game, and I know it is a different type of game. But if you could only keep one, which one would it be?
While I've never played Tanares, I did play Arena and enjoyed it quite a bit! A hard one to choose from. Technically my suggestion would be to back both at core before backing 1 at all-in as it's always a much better bang for your buck. That being said if I had to pick absolutely 1 vs the other I'd pick Primal. While I love Arena my wife wasn't a fan and so I have to play Arena with my friends/kids which isn't as often as I liked. To give a reason that's not so personal circumstance, I found Primal to be more "fun". Arena is a thinking game and certainly fun, but there's a heavier RPG factor into it whereas Primal is all about killing giant monsters and I'm a very simple man when it comes to what I enjoy and that's certainly one of them :)
Passing on this one. It just seems too expensive for what you get and the game just doesn't look very interesting. I noticed the opened the pledge manager on Massive Darkness 2 and I was thinking I would rather have that for the price. Also, I just subscribed. Sorry, I watch your videos all the time. I don't know how I missed subscribing. Love the content!
haha no worries Para, thanks for the sub! Honestly subs only matter for two reasons: Helps ensure you see when I post (especially community posts like when I teased the Primal unboxing early) and for getting noticed by game devs so I can provide coverage just like this - so happy to have you on that sub list :P While it probably provides just as many if not more game sessions (15-30ish) as MD2, the big miniatures throw off a sense of "content" since you're not getting like, 100 minis so I can understand that :) Happy I was able to help you make the right decision for you! That's what makes all the effort worth it :D
I am going to see how the Fallen Knight campaign plays out in a few days...I might just get both core boxes. Anything beyond the core box never makes it the table for me.
@@TheKingofAverage for me if a board game does not have good art why should I buy it? If I am putting down 100 plus dollars on your game the way it looks is extremely important. I didn't hate the art that was shown but it didn't impress me so will see what it's like the 21st
Asking non-EU folks to pay VAT doesn't sit well with me - it's asking the rest of the world to subsidize EU taxes, without being able to benefit from having paid those taxes. It feels morally deficit. If I don't live in the EU, I should only be paying -my- taxes, not because they want Europeans to get the game for even cheaper.
Ideally they are just making less profit from those in the EU. Perhaps that is what they are doing? Not saying they are, but it's possible. Otherwise totally agreed I don't want to may taxes to Europe for a game I ordered to America as a US citizen.
Wanted to get this but it's so expensive... Let's sit on the early bird to the last day and robably get rid of it then.^^ However I want to point out that a large part of the massive price in USA is due to exchange rate. ATO was 110-120€ this is 140€ so the diffrence is
Yeah always rough when it comes to that exchange rate. Heck it could change in 14 days even :D As for price comparing. It's a faulty way of thinking that if you can find a better deal then the alternative must be a bad deal. You can have two great deals and one just happens to be even greater. Oathsworn is another example. It was sold at almost cost which not every company can or is willing or even should do but hard to beat that price for what you get!
If you can stop yourself thats great but if you end up really enjoying it and want the expansions later down the line you might have a hard time finding them and way more expensive potentially
Love your video, and coverage. Love Rahdo's playthrough as well. Then encountered the stupid "Rest of the world" pricing. Is Asia a joke to them? I assume these are manufactured in China like all other Mini-games
It's cheaper than the oathsworn with miniatures, and oathsworn was sold at almost cost to the point where they barely started making money days into their massive campaign. That's highly unusual for a company to do and not something I expect to really see again. It was an AMAZING deal but just because it's better than every other offer on KS doesn't mean those other offers were bad. There's over 2,000 cards in the all-in and just the core supports around 30 game sessions before you've fought every boss. All of the boss monsters are 75mm-150mml so they're really large and it breaks down to $10 a miniature if you just include them. Actually pretty impressive IMO.
@@TheKingofAverage If we talk about full gameplay pledge, Oathsworn is cheaper (even with miniatures). Otherwise it is unfair comparison, cause in Oathsworn everything was included into core anyway.
I’m still amazed by the sheer volume of people moaning about the price. As I have been playing miniature and war games for a very long time. If you where taking the monsters alone in a retail setting for 40-100mm and if you where looking at the cheapest prices you still looking at £30-70 for one and there is 12 of these in the core box alone plus another 6 in the Adonis. They have also soaked up the vat cost for shipping to which they have been up front about and not sneaked it in the back door like some other firms. So from my point a view it seems like a great deal.
@@TheKingofAverage just paid the gameplay all in for darkest dungeon. will pay the all in being for md2 at the end of next month. crap. I still have bardsung and nova aetas still to finish up. 😆
@@TheKingofAverage King can I ask you something. At this moment I'm a backer. But it seems that the game is more of a card driven game. Is this game like KDM but instead of dice you use cards? Will it not get boring after a few rounds? Thank you
