*Recognizes Mr. Bennet as Donald Sutherland and not “President Snow”. Me: Ah, a lady of culture! 💐

If only she'd recognized him as Oddball from Kelly's Heroes.

I don't know how many people actually pay attention to this in the last decade or so, but it was pretty much a rule of thumb at (sit-down) dinner parties, both formal and casual, that couples not be seated together. The reasoning is that it might be too easy for people to talk only to their own partner through dinner, rather than making conversation with other guests - it was a way to keep the conversation flowing and, hopefully, more interesting.

(I work at a restaurant) I've noticed with older couples going out with friends, everyone sits across from their partners. So wives on one side, husband's on the other. Never thought much of it till I read your comment. Very interesting!!

Great reaction!! I prefer this version too! Joe Wright is a great director, the actors are incredible, the cameras, the music... the rain scene gave the other versions a bath - literally... lol... the scene of Mr. Collins dancing with Lizzy is hilarious... :) I like it very much. The BBC version is good too, more faithful to the original text, but not so cinematic. From Brazil.

Yea, I think since the 1995 version was a BBC series, it most likely had a much lower budget than this version. Although most people in britain are used to the style of those older shows, I can understand why some would find it boring. I personally prefer the 90s version because it's true to the time period but this one is still amazing for different reasons

I don’t know if you got this anywhere in your comments already, but the reason why the mom and some of the girls were pinching their cheeks when Mr. Bingley came around to propose near the end is because it made them pink. It’s a cheap and quick way of putting blush on your cheeks. 💙💙💙

Me to myself the entire movie: I am single. I am sooo single single single single. Watching all these couples getting together really does give everyone a romantic Existential crisis 😂😂😂

Got to love a reactor who is into both Pride and Prejudice and The Thick of it! I enjoyed this adaptation - Emma Thompson’s Sense and Sensibility is also excellent.

Jane Austen books are a great start. Sense and Sensibility is also very good.

I've not read the entire book. I saw the book version of the first marriage proposal, and the second. It was SO wordy! "One word from you will silence me forever." Elizabeth says lots of words, lol. I'm thinking, "shut up!" Movie version: "One word from you will silence me forever." Elizabeth quietly waits for him to continue. I like your reactions. You don't talk over the whole movie, like some that I've tried to watch. I do find the background noise distracting when you turn your mike on. You should try to find a way to fix that. But again, great reaction!

Thank you for your reaction! Pleeeeeeaase watch the BBC miniseries with Colin Firth! It's more faithful to the novel, so the characters are far richer, but don't feel pressured to "react' to it all. I believe--if you do watch it--you'll truly enjoy it! Edit: Another thank you (x10!) for having read the novel and for keeping historical context in mind! Also, as an Asian girl, I WISH I had your double-eyelids--you're gorgeous!!!

Faithful yes, but I think for a movie this works better. And it's just wonderfully shot. Also, I actually quite like some of the analysis that point at a possibility of Darcy actually being more socially awkward and maybe more on the spectrum instead of just mean. On a different note, Austin uses a lot of the narrator who is not objective but colored by different people. Actually, Octavia Cox has some cool analysis about this on her channel. For example when in the introduction the narrator says about how bad and snobby Darcy is, it is the narrator being the crowd of people on the ball. I'm not a scholar so I can't say whether she is right but it is definitely an interesting take

It’s fun watching a reaction from someone who read the books before! (Also, you need to react to more movies!)

Really enjoyed your review, Megan. It is interesting to see your eyes track the actors in scenes, and I suspect, read captions so as not to miss the details of dialog. At @24:55, when Kitty startles the Bennett women by stating Mr. Bingley is arrived...note that Mrs. Bennett as she lounges with a half finished plate of food balancing on her belly...is humming "Greensleeves". Check out the lyrics in context with the unfolding events. I will pay closer attention to the man in the doorway at the ball you first thought to be a portrait. The Lady Catherine de Bourg demands that Mr. Collins not sit next to his wife because the seating arrangement, according to etiquette, is designed to stimulate conversation between acquaintances and strangers, and a reference to Elizabeth's admonishment to Mr. Darcy to "take his Aunt's advice", and practice. ✨🥰

im not sure if you got an answer as to why they all had to leave the table when mr. collins went to propose. because if i was in lizzys position and my mother said "sure! you guys can go into the drawing room!" id straight up say no thanks, im good here. all of them leaving was the perfect way to trap lizzy into staying. lol! mom was a sneak and had a lot of nerve!

It might have been a good idea to not watch the BBC miniseries with Colin Firth and Mr. Darcy. It's much longer than the movie, however, obviously you don't have to watch it all at once since there are breaks between episodes. That being said, the miniseries is excellent, and so is this movie.
