They can remake this movie a hundred times and it will never be better or closer to the book than this production. Absolutely brilliant and I'm so thankful they took the time to film what is essentially the book word for word.

allison steadman was phenomenal as mrs. bennet. i think her experience in stage acting contributed immensely to her performance. i loved how her acting was purposely overdramatic and over the top. it actually contrasted with the subtle acting of the rest of the cast in such a brilliant way. it made viewers exasperated yet highly entertained by her character. i have a renewed respect for stage actors/actresses. well done, allison (o^-^o)

@@ds1868 there is a 1985 version as well. it stars Elizabeth Garvie as Elizabeth Bennet and David Rintoul as Mr. Darcy. i like that version too, bc of how close it was to the book. it often is included in a six movie Jane Austen set of BBC adaptations. This is the best version of all the movies. I loved the casting, I thought all were performed beautifully. Mr. Bennet and Mr. Collins were not only very good actors but both portrayed each character different than in other productions. Mr. Bennett made you love him and Mr. Collins was hilarious perfection. So obnoxious, snobby, ridiculous but not over the top, I just loved him as well. As I did Colin Firth, my favorite actor. So charming, though not at first. By the end you just had to smile and sigh.

BUT, the 1995 mini series allows the relationship of elizabeth and darcy to develop more properly, in the movie it can feel a little rushed (obviously hour and a half and 6 hours isnt the same so....) i really love this mini series you get to enjoy deeply the jane austen world. Hi, thanks for putting this up, it's a great little production, ...but there again I'm a bit biased as I'm the director! Lots of funny stories, Lucy Briers having to sit on a stone wall in the churchyard so we could see the Bennet house, a mad dash to Cambridge to get David Bamber's interview, Adrian's sense of humor, Ben's reading off the cuff of his own copy of Pride and Prejudice, and bribing Polish builders in Kensington so they would stop drilling whilst we recorded Carl's music ! WOW !

Hello, to those of you who asked about the missing Julia Sawahla, I as the director and Producer I would have loved to have had Julia on board ( and Colin, Jennifer, SusannaH, etc). Unfortunately we had a very short production schedule, and Julia simply wasn't available when we needed to interview her *( she was busy doing some more "ab fabs" as I remember.) I did have her on board initially but months later when we got the go ahead she wasn't available (simple as that unfortunately).

Thanks for the upload! My favorite production of Pride and Prejudice! I don't agree with Mary playing ''bad'' though. The novel never says she's bad at playing the piano. She is pedantic and tries to show off by playing big pieces when everybody just wants some light music. The novel gives the the impression that she's quite good technically, but doesn't play with feeling and plays to show off and not to please.

What a lovely presentation. Thank-you very much for posting this. Like so many others, I prefer this production over the McFayden/Knightly version. Both of those actors were woefully miscast. I did feel sorry for Kira Knightly because she always looked disheveled, much like an unmade bed, as she walked about in that giant flapping coat, and with her hair always askew. McFayden always looked like a sad puppy, mooning about with his big cow eyes, rather than an arrogant rich man, whick Darcy was. What makes the '95 production stand out is the love and respect everyone involved with it accorded Jane Austin's original story.

Why do modern people interpret things only as about sex and money? Of course humans need sex and money but that is not what Pride and Prejudice was all about. Otherwise, we can say that all literary masterpieces are about sex and money when we strip it down to the barest minimum.

I like this Victorian style and 1995 version is best, i don't care about this love story in Victorian time where this based, Jane Austen but i like this Victorian style yes.

To be completely pedantic, this is "regency". Victorian is 1837-1901, that's the age of Brönte, Dickens, and Sherlock Holmes then. Sorry I couldn't resist correcting this.

@@Darcyfied you're not being pedantic. The person making the comment is ignorant.
