Benjamin Whitrow was amazing as Mr Bennet! His 'one liners' were delivered to perfection and his responses to Mrs Bennet's prattling, were so subtle in their sarcasm, they still bring a smile to my face. He deserves far more credit than he was ever given.

I absolutely loved this program when i was 12-13 and rewatched some of it nearly every day. I took a 25 yr break and rewatched it at 38, and was really surprised by how much I suddenly enjoyed the - well, let’s call them the ‘obnoxious’ characters 😂 Particularly Mrs. Bennet. She was phenomenally acted and had me laughing like i never did when i was younger. The music at the beginning of each episode still makes my heart skip a beat though 💕 🎶

All in all, this is the best adaptation of P&P. However, it should have mentioned that the Bingleys were nouveau riche, as is done for example in the BBC's 1980 adaptation. Consequently, it misleadingly gives the impression that the Bingleys were of higher birth than the Bennets.

I can understand not liking a particular actor in a role (although I personally love Firth as Darcy) but he was hardly too old for the part. Darcy's exact age was never given in the book, but can be estimated at 33-34ish as his sister is 'more than 16 years' his junior and she is 16 by the time Elizabeth meets her in the book.
