The awesome thing about so many converts like Dr. Bergsma is that they totally geeked out on the Bible before they converted and know it better than many of us cradle Catholics. It gives them a unique perspective
The Orthodox Churches [unlike the Anglican Church and all other Protestant sects] has a valid Apostolic Priesthood and an Orthodox Liturgy is a valid celebration of the Sacrifice of the Mass. However, they are schismatic [separated from the Catholic Church because of their non-acceptance of Papal Authority].
It appears John the Baptist was supposed to be a priest as his father was. They are descendants of Aaron. He appears to have left the temple. Legend says Mary, jesus mother, had lived there in the Temple. They did find an Essene graveyard with women in it. Who is the teacher of righteousness? Was he the real priest.
I Think John The Baptised was the leader of the Essenes...because the bible tells us that his disciples followed Jesus.. he was to become less and it seems likely that he had attracted Jews who wanted more from their faith....and Jesus said he was the greatest prophet.

Protestants, esp the reformers do not deny the office of the (ministerial) preist. What we, protestants deny is the catholics claims that through you(catholic priest) and only through you (catholic priest) alone we can recieve your so called “sacraments” and even the blessings of God. Where do we see that in the Bible?

You are quoting Old Testament, We are in the church age of grace through faith. And all believers are saints.
Really? He quoted From Matthew and John's Gospel. If I remember correctly that both Matthew and John Gospel's are part of the New Testament. It seem that You didn't watch his lecture in its entirety? Please watch the video again.

But you have to remember Jesus says I only came to the lost sheep to the house of Israel and told his disciples not to go to any Samaritans or Gentiles homes, he was speaking to the “JEWS” to repent to bring the Earthly kingdom of heaven in. The Jewish nation rejected Jesus, so he commissioned Paul to now bring the Gentiles in for salvation. Acts is a transitional book from Jew to Gentiles, but Romans through Philemon is Paul to the Gentiles by Jesus Christ. The Start of the gospel is when Jesus was crucified for the sins of the world,1CORINTHIANS 15:1-4 He was not yet crucified in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John’s gospels. Please don’t get me wrong the gospels are for us to read with Christian application to us, but not all of it is for us. Paul’s writings to us talks about “ WHAT” Jesus did for us. And we are all called to be kings and priest for all believers are saints in Christ. Blessings!
@@johnp.6043 The Issue is not about who Jesus is rather what he did and what he established. It is clear from the Gospels that the Kindom of God is the centre of Jesus's proclamation and to enlarge the kingdom, he appointed his disciples as a priest and gave them to have an authoritative teaching role. This is the real issue and the content of the video.
Yes I understand, But Peter was then in agreement with Paul’s ministry and brought salvation also to the Gentiles, which go’s back to 1PETER 2:5 Peter says ye also” ALL BELIEVERS “ as lively stones” “that includes Peter” For there is only one rock “ Jesus Christ “, 1CORINTHIANS 10:4 are built up a spiritual house, an Holy Priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Peter is writing this after the death burial and Resurrection of Jesus. This video is about that CC priest are succeeding the apostles. I disagree according to what Paul and Peter writes.
@@johnp.6043 Don't forget the fact that Israel was called a priestly kingdom people. " Now, therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine." (Exo 19:5). St peter's teaching is not new and doesn't preclude having a ministerial priesthood. Firstly, note that it is a fact from Hebrews that Christ is the High Priest of the New Covenant, just as there was a High Priest (Aaron) in the Old Covenant (e.g., Heb 4:14). This shows us that not all priests are of the same rank, something inconsistent with the Evangelical claim. Secondly, we know that there was a Levitical priesthood that was of a lower rank than the High Priest but still superior in rank to the "priesthood of all believers" and thus one would be justified in expecting this second rank (members of an ordained, ministerial priesthood) of priests to be paralleled in the New Covenant along with the clear presence of the first (the great High Priest, Jesus) and third rank ("Royal Priesthood"). This is further substantiated by the fact that even after Moses calls the people a royal priesthood, he goes on to put them into different categories (those of priests and laity): And the Lord said unto Moses, Go down and charge the people, lest they break through unto the Lord to gaze, and many of them perish. And let the priests also, which come near to the Lord, sanctify themselves, lest the Lord break forth upon them. And Moses said unto the Lord, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou charged us, saying, Set bounds about the mount and sanctify it. And the Lord said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the Lord, lest he break forth upon them. (Exo 19:21-24) There is a second class of priests, and these are members of the ministerial priesthood. That the New Testament authors understood this correspondence between the Old and New Covenant priesthoods can be seen in Jude 11: Woe to them! For they go the way of Cain, and abandon themselves to Balaam's error for the sake of gain, and perish in Korah's rebellion. (NRSV) In this verse, Jude warns the Christian community to respect the priest-laity division, noting that there will be disobedient members of the community who will be modelled after Cain, Balaam, and Korah who engaged in such a rebellion. All these situations were sins involving the priesthood. Korah's rebellion, for instance, is the most noteworthy of the three; in Num 16 Korah, serving as an equivalent of a deacon, gets upset and gathers a group of friends and engages in a rebellion: And they gathered themselves together against Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherefore then lift ye yourselves above the congregation of the Lord? (Num 16:3) Moses then rebukes Korah and says to him that he would be thankful that he is a deacon, but that he should not seek to raise himself to the level of a priest: And he hath brought thee near to him, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee: and seek ye the priesthood also? (Num 16:10) Funnily enough, Evangelicals would side with Korah on this! They would say to Catholics and Orthodox who hold to a ministerial priesthood in the New Covenant, "you raise yourself above everyone else; everyone is equal!" The only way Jude's warning of a modern Korah-like rebellion makes any sense is if there will be Christians who will try to usurp authority and "move up" in the New Covenant priesthood--it makes no sense if the Evangelical understanding of the "priesthood of all believers" is correct.

Wow what a great gift to be given during Lent. Thank you Dr. Bergsma and Catholic Productions. Yesterday we had Dr Pitre talking about the Ordination of Jesus in his commentary on the Mass reading from the Book of Hebrews and then to have this today is fantastic. Keep it up and God Bless
I'm no theologian, but I believe that's EXACTLY the case. I watched a Dr. Marshall series on the Apocalypse and he said that there's a passage in Zachariah where it's said that the sacrifice would be performed all over the world - to which he concluded was the sacrifice of the mass. I don't remember he saying that that's why there's no temple for the jews anymore, but I have this as the reason ever since.
