Thanks, brother, It has been a blessing having you as a friend dude. we will get through this. I saw that Paul Harrel did a bit on reloading, thoughts, and advantages/disadvantages to it, and other well thought out comentary. He is right on all of it. - peace brother -Dave
As someone who works in Ammo manufacturing, I’m not the one in charge, and I may not be the best source for info- I’m just a pee-on press operator. But, we’ve been working 12 hour shifts for the last 4 or 5 months. We’ve even started a weekend shift... I feel like Federal’s CEO had it right. Ive never worked so much in my life. I can’t even buy ammo or components at my work. WHY? Because all the primers and components are going into ammunition. It’s not just hoarders and price gougers making things expensive- It’s that there is so much backordered, we can’t keep up. It has to all be prioritized to what’s in the most demand, and like it or not, hand loaders aren’t where the priorities are. Also, most of our raw materials come from overseas. Those places, just like factories here, are forcing quarantine on workers they’ve been in contact or have contracted covid. That puts an additional strain on manufacturing... it is what is is. Just my $0.02... But I agree with you- this too shall pass.
Hey dude. As I mentioned midway through the video, that Guy that walk through the production floor on that video, he had valid backable reasons, however, he stopped and as we watched some machine pressing out ammo, he said, we are stepping up production of our new 30-06 super duper planet destroyer 180 gr hunting ammo, I thought, That isn't what people are buying right now, people want "White box or green label or Yellow box ammo" why are you wasting components on "Hunting performance" ammo? in a common caliber that still is available for cheap? That is where it didn't add up to me. -Dave
@@Thorsaxe777 hunters are having a hard time finding even common hunting calibers. I haven’t seen 30-06 on the shelves in months, and in my part of the country, cow elk hunts are still going on... People want to jump to conclusions, and dare I say it, conspiracy theories about the ammo shortage, but the fact is there is a huge demand and simply not enough man power and materials to cover it all. Love your channel. Keep up the good work, sir.
Just recently the big labels chicken producers all colluded to short the market and got caught!! They will pay major fines! I believe primer sales makes them more profit unless ammo is short... imagine that! Hunting ammo!!😜 good show!!
Hey Buddy, Nice to hear from you. Ya, People are going nuts right now. Just like every four years and it is election time. However, this year, with all the stuff that has taken place, I predict this is going to be the way it is for a while, You started making bullets, not just for a cost-saving, you wanted independence to manufacture your own, That's what people are realizing now as the shelves are bare down at the sporting goods stores. Peace dude, -Dave
I have only been reloading 4 or 5 years so this mess was new to me, I do remember a couple of videos in the past about these kinds of supply issues so just the last 24 months I have been making sure I have enough lead with correct bullet mold, powder and primers to get through at least 24 months to when I can resupply. Thanks for the video Dave, got $$ stacked away for when stuff is available again at reasonable prices.
People get all wound up during election years, the "Mad Rush" starts and the next thing you know the shelves are bare at our sporting goods stores, This is we had riots and the pandemic, all that stuff that happened didn't help. Anyway, we will see as time marches on, So have faith and keep on keeping on dude. Peace out-Dave
great video Dave i also saw that video from that federal representative as a matter of fact he put out another video about a week or 2 ago trying convince everybody that all is well, and yes i remember the 80's shooooortage!! on primers, back then before the shooortage!! i could buy 500 cast bullets for 30$ 1.25$ for a 100 primers and 7.50$ for a 8 oz can of 700X or 9.99$ for a 1 lb can of unique, and like serious re-loaders i would buy primers in 5000 bulk thru midway and take advantage of their free shipping or waived hazmat fee specials, and nowadays i cast from range scrap and have been sparingly using my primers and powder to continue with my videos, also beautiful 45 a.c.p loads Dave i have the old 2 cavity Lyman 452374 ideal mold with the built in handles and that strong riveted pin that supports the handles...im sure i speak for the rest of your subscribers that we would like to see Dave a little bit more. take care buddy. LB4L.
Thanks for watching dude. Being down in Cali you guys really see the ugliness, people down there have good weather all year and can shoot year-round consistently. That makes demand worse for you guys. again, stock up when the seas calm down and the storm passes. -Dave
Thank You Sir! I have heard some manufacturers are short on brass. I am tempted to collect 22lr cases (fired) and send them in for recycling. 👍🇺🇸 #22aday
Hang in there brother there is always brass to process. Not bragging but it feels good to be able to go to the well of primers. Stay safe all this ride is going to be rough depending on where you roost.
Ahhhh yes late 80's to mid 94. Clinton and Schumer bat their highest... Learned back then and kept the mindset. Components are like the real estate market. They go up then come back down but not the previous prices. You speak the truth Thor's Axe. 👍
Hey Dave: Like you I remember the so-called shortages back in the time frame you mentioned but it passed. In time it all became normal again. There's been a few times since when certain particular bullets, primers and powder for popular calibers happened. It to passed. Where I'm at just south of you the shelves are bare at all the local venders. Especially for LRP, 30 cal. bullets and the popular powders for the 30 cal. The thing that is different this time that may cause some issues is the fact that we have some very ugly people pulling the levers of power right now. And you can bet they are going to stop at nothing to shut us down. Ok brother take care Dave
Lencac, hey brother, I didn't want to get political, however, I believe as you do and point well taken, here is another fact, people crafting their own has grown, I believe that more people are loading at home more than ever, I believe that those statistics end up on someone's desk someplace somewhere, and again, they are the evil people using all their weight to throw that lever. Just like back then, the big phrase was "want to do something about guns, take away all the ammo" and that has been their M.O. ever since. Idk where this is going to go, however, I'm about 80% sure that this will be like every other time and sooner or later the dam will break. I'm concerned, as every firearm owner should, even if they don't craft their needs. You should do a show on this- Dave
@@Thorsaxe777 Truth is I have some very choice words about all of it. Problem is, with the criminals running the show now I have some hesitation. And make no mistake, these are very dangerous people that we've given the levers of power to. For the same reason, unlike before, I have some concern about conducting business as usual. We are being watched and categorized. As of 12:01 January 20th both you and I, as well as millions of other normal Americans are now considered to be very bad smelly Walmart people. If this "shortage" is created and not "organic" that means they can continue to make it go on as long as they want. It's already been happening for quite a long time already. Plus I've been seriously been considering telling YT to GFY. What do you think about Rumble? Dave
Hey dude. It will blow over. I have faith. However, like you, I'm concerned and will be tapering back on my production. it will be purpose-built ammo if I make it. Peace brother, nice hearing from ya. -Dave
There are those of us who saw it coming, but lacked the cash to stockpile. Of course now that they are scarce, I could afford a few thousand at normal prices. Not that I expect to see normal prices again. With our state threatening AWB, I decided that mags were higher priority, so I got those. It sucks not having as many primers in storage as I would like, but I will buy them when I can.
I think primers will bump down to around 4 cents each, but it will be almost 2 years before you can find them easily. There are a lot more new shooters, and new shooters are doing more high volume shooting than the more boomer style shooters. It is an anti bubble, but the demand is real. Moreover there are fewer companies in the business. Remington is Federal now. There is less competition in the market. I do believe that CEO. They will chuck their supply where it is most profitable, which is loaded ammo. The other companies are doing the same. I haven't seen stuff like wolf or Tula available for a couple years now.
I know some companys here in Norway got pallets of Federal primers about a month and a half ago, so I dont believe in this "shortage". Maybe some components are harder to get, but no shortage.
Bullseye shooting is also an economic way to shoot. A range trip is 100+/- rounds over (3) calibers. So you only need to load hundreds not thousands. A video explaining the sport would be nice.
That is true, also it gives special attention to accuracy in the way of Marksmanship, it is a builder of confidence and that is one of the big foundations of shooting. You don't get better as you shoot hundreds of rounds at a time.
I have held my tongue for awhile... But the red towel with Christmas Tree towel cannot be used year round... Upgrade your E.A.R.R.L. to a new towel. Sell (10) primers ?
I don't know with the demand for ammo at such a high volume I don't know that they could make near the Profit just putting out a great bunch of primers as they would by selling loaded ammo , reloaders are not as huge of a market. Imho
Thanks for your input, and you are correct, reloaders will always be the minority. however, more people are casting, so much so, new companies have popped up and met that demand and got some of that. More and more people are reloading now than ever. -Dave
@@Thorsaxe777 I don't load large quantities so I had what I needed, but all the recent live chats really put the scare on me so I did the drive, stopped at Cabelas 40 minutes north of me. Had my pick of reasonably stocked shelves. They had the full variety available, no limits on sales. My only limitation was the amount of money I wanted to spend ($100.00) Didn't need to go to the second place. I even took a photo of the shelves to add a blog entry on my website. If you go to youtube channel "Eat Bacon" I just started posting vids a few days ago. There is a link to my website where I have been posting all my testing etc. I will have my Primer related postings on line later tomorrow. I want to do a coffee chat video for you as well , profiling one of my more interesting high quality target pistols from the old days. haha. Mike
Brother Thor’s ax I paid 120 for the ones I found. And anything in 9mm 223 30 cal can’t be found. But with that being said if you don’t have anything you tend to get a little worried
@@Thorsaxe777 Sir I have a unrelated question in regards to my AR10. I went with Krieger for my barrel I have been having ejection problems. Would a tight “target” chamber cause erratic ejection???? I just noticed that when I try to manually cycle the action it’s extremely difficult to get the round out of the rifle.
I completely agree! Don't believe the lead cost more now, brass is more now more expensive, we're doing all we can to produce, BS. Don't hoard, and stop feeding the scalpers. Reduce the amount you use just slightly and only buy what and when you need in order to reduce the time duration of this "shortage" The same goes for ammunition.
You guys down there in So Cali are all tied up, as I said to another fellow, down there, you guys can shoot every day, day in and day out because of the weather, that alone will put out a high demand and bare shelves. Peace Brother-Dave
Reloading discord is where the primers are. don't pay GB prices. You have to be insanely fast, scalpers are using distill and auto buying software, so you literally have a minute to get checked out. Powder valley, Natchez, midsouth, Brownells and midway consistently have primers. Also, when a notification goes out, literally 8000 people are going to hit the website at once, literally torching the server.
Hey dude, even the people that stocked up, in reality, we are paying the same. it depends on what angle you look at it from, I hope this doesn't last long dude. -Dave
Q?: The special grease that President Biden ordered the vaccine manufacturers to use on their machines to produce more needs to be put on the primer machines... I put some on my single stage and I can do 2,000 per hour with coffee breaks.
My website blog has been updated, I hear through the grapevine my channel is difficult to find due to my Name choice, I'm still new to all this youtube creator related stuff, I think if you click my avatar it will lead you to my channel, from there you can get my website if you are interested.
