Some good suggestions i havent thought of, thanks! Insurrection and Hideous Taskmaster are incredible high end of the manacurve haymakers, especially in group slug where you wither down the life of each player. And they are pretty cheap, too.

This deck seems really fun to play. I definitely want to try out this commander

Thanks! And same, I’ve actually already preordered my deck lol even without seeing the full decklist yet

I always wonder... Why not wait for decklist? If often make the primers irrelevant as there are some reprints incoming making cards cheaper and completely new cards that always make the cut for particular commander.

Fair question! So my honest answer (idk if it’s a cop out) is because it’s fun lol I got excited about the commander and decided to make a video coz I wanted to talk to people about it. But a more practical answer is because usually, a thing that Wizards does with the precons is that they always feature a secondary commander. And so the cards they include in the deck usually support multiple strategies (vs a more streamlined one). I think that’s great, especially when building a collection, but I know people might sometimes want a more streamlined approach so that when they play, their deck consistently “does its thing”. I don’t think the primer becomes irrelevant. Some specific cards might get replaced, ofc, but hopefully the strategy and approach remains pretty relevant so that it helps you evaluate even the new cards that get printed. So yeah, that’s my take lol ✌️

@@MTGJanktown these days preconstructed are more focused. Secondary commanders don't get as much support as before unless they are fairly similar in function. Other than that your reasons are fair enough.

I’m torn between this and Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin. Ob Nix is better but you HAVE to play 1 damage pings only, rather than more aggressive stuff with damage doublers potentially too. I can not decide :(

They’re both really good but my take is… Ob Nix is more powerful and so if you regularly play in higher power pods, go with Ob Nix. But if you don’t, then you might have more fun with Valgavoth. He doesn’t grow as fast as Ob Nix and draws only 3 cards (as opposed to obscene amounts of impulse draw) which means that the deck doesn’t get out of hand as quickly nor does it need to be positioned to storm off in a big turn 💪

@@MTGJanktown That's where i'm at with it too i think. He's not as good as Ob but he's far from bad either. Power level of playgroups definitely matters here too like you said. I think it'll really come down to whether people wanna play Pestilence Tribal style with Ob or if they want to play more group slugish with things that do more than 1 damage. Either way, they both go into the others deck without question, even if you're running Valgavoth as the commander and Ob Nix can't grow quite as often, he's still stupidly good, and Valgavoth will absolutely get stupid amounts of card draw in the 99 of Ob Nix. This is gonna be a tough one to figure out for me for sure.

@@anthonybalista7421 I have an Ob Nixilis deck that's on the casual side and it goes pretty hard, with a bit of setup like Roiling Vortex and an Underworld Dreams out, one turn cycle and big Nix is a 10/9 + you have 6 cards to play from exile - a pinger and a double damage spell and someone is just out the game. Having said that I like the draw engine on the Duskmourn dude though, the exile can sometimes be punishing if you don't have enough mana to use. I'm debating putting ON in the 99 and using the new guy, less hate.

@@jackhollingworth3793 That was the same discussion i had at my LGS today actually about him. Ob is definitely "better", but early on you're not gonna have the mana to use all those cards you're exiling, whereas Valgavoth is 3 cards per turn cycle in your hand. Plus like you said, less hate directed towards you since people know how quickly ON can get out of hand. I'm definitely gonna consider a list around both of them. I've had a Sheoldred the Apocolypse deck and a Solphim deck forever now...i feel like this guy would combine the 2 and let me play the punishing tax cards that Solphim runs, while also letting me run Sheoldred and things like Underworld Dreams in the 99. This'll take some time to decide though. Hell The Lord of Pain might even be the way to go, but he'll absolutely be in the 99 of either. If he sticks a turn cycle he procs Valgavoth on each persons turn for you. This is gonna be a tough decision lol.
