Jolene is such a wonderful woman. She is a big help to you and always trying to learn something new. When a person isn't willing to learn something new they are as smart as they are ever going to be. I'm 72 and still learn all I can.
So true mate. I was talking to a guy at work yesterday....and between us we figured something out. I said to him “there ya go...we both learnt something today....it’s a good day” 👍
I used to work for evercoat did bodywork paint we didn’t recommend laying down Feather fill Direct to metal the way is lay down epoxy primer and then lay down feather fill is Polyester Primer is Porous moisture be under your primer down the road you will have problems
Chad, I have much respect for you as a fabricator and a designer. I too build cars and have for 40 years. I know what it takes to achieve the end product that you create. I only have this last comment about the primer as a bit of information that you can take or toss it out as you see fit. I have spent the last 26 years as a manufactures rep for one of the largest automotive coatings companies in the world. I have a lot of experience behind what I am talking about. A large part of my job has been helping painters figure out what went wrong with their paint job. 99% of the time it has been because the painter did not follow the manufactures directions. The directions are for optimal results. The paint chemist that developed this product knows what it will and will not do. The manufacturer of the product has spent many hours testing with salt spray, adhesion and chip resistance. If it fails, they are usually held responsible. Unless it was not used correctly. The procedure that you use will work for a while. Long term, who knows because it was never intended to be used that way. The problems will come later after the hot sun and moisture attacks the finish. Yes 80 grit will provide adhesion. Epoxy is used for corrosion protection as well as adhesion. You cant get corrosion protection from sandpaper. The other potential problem is you over catalized the product. The fact that you had primer left over after using all 4 tubes of hardener tells this clearly. Over catalizing can result in a much slower cure time and can cause other potential long term problems. Please if you are going to teach, be responsible and teach it correctly. I’m sure Evercoat would prefer you teach your viewers the best way to use this primer. Not trying to bust your chops or come across as a know it all, but this is and has been my job for many years. I am a big fan and you have inspired me on my projects. Thank you!
I am curius. Some People talk about epoxi unerneath bodyfill. Whats your take on that?? How do I work with that for the best result?? Lets say i sanded and treated a heavy surface rust spot so the rust is gone but i want to fill it up to a nice finnish :)
@@kulan9379 Epoxy provides a layer of both adhesion and more importantly, corrosion protection. Many paint failures are not really paint related. I have seen multiple times when rust forms under the filler. It is caused by the peroxide in the hardener of the filler. I always epoxy before bodywork!
@@rexlindsey yes but how do i use it. Is it 36 grit the panel and then 1coat epoxy, lets say 1H before the epoxy is able to be coated with something else. Is it spray it on there wait 1H and then aplly Body fill it how is it done irl??
@@kulan9379 You can use 36, 40 or 80 grit then apply two coats of epoxy. You need enough film build or the epoxy will not work as it is intended. PPG epoxy will allow up to 7 days before sanding is required. You need to let the epoxy dry before applying body fill. Epoxy ‘s are slow to dry. I usually let it sit overnight before I put anything on top. I think my comments have been removed from his site. Hope this helps!
Hi In order to get a long lasting quality result, you should have an epoxi primer on bare metal, I have seen great paintwork getting destroyed by blisters due to no primer under polyester sprayfiller. Body guy since 1981. Keep the good work going Take care From Sweden
The Directions for the product he is using clearly states "NOTE: All bare metal areas larger than one inch in diameter must be treated with a high quality self-etch or epoxy primer." That comes straight off of their web site.
Jolene you did a great job girl don't even think you did anything wrong , but I will say as a painter it is hard to watch someone else paint .LOL I'm wanting put my hand through the phone .Lol and finish painting it myself lol.you do have a great teacher . Listen and learn and you'll be as good as he is very soon. peace out..
Great job guys !!! Just had my truck painted last year. Sure wish I had somebody take pride in there work like you do. I was so Disappointed. Sucks when you are super excited and then get taken by someone who just doesn’t take pride in there craft.
Your shop is like my garage. If you had 20 more feet of bench space it would be covered with stuff and you still wouldn't have any room to set a gallon of primer.
When you are teaching somebody to use the gun you should let them know that you pull the trigger partially and only the air comes out then you pull the trigger more and the paint comes out but when you pull the trigger a little bit you always have are coming out and then when you want the pain to come out you as you're rolling with your hand you pulled the trigger the rest of the way to lift the paint come out and at the end of each stroke you can let off the trigger a little bit to stop the paint flow when you need to
little tip for anyone, if yu wrap the airline around your wrist then over your shoulder it keeps it away from roof and hoods if you are a short arse like me :)
Great video. The trust and patience that Chad has with Jolene shows his true love for her. It brings joyful tears to one’s eyes to see their love and respect for each other. I am fortunate to have the same with my beautiful wife. Our wishes for the greatest success in your adventures.
The Eastwood spec sheet says I can't use Featherfill directly onto bare metal. Do I first need to apply a self etching (or epoxy) primer on bare metal, then apply Featherfill on top of it?
I am factory trained on this matter and painted thousands of high end cars. . If the car is properly prepared as in the case that Chad is doing it this will work perfectly. The instructions are for all bodymen from the do it yourself guy to the professional so laymen can have direction in case they don't know better. A professional knows by trial and error and by experience. It is funny that a person who isn't a professional can read something and give advise as if they know everything.
@@MarkJones-qn1eg I’m a factory trained painter also and every single manufacture of any and every automotive refinish product will tell you if you strip a car to bare metal it needs self etch or epoxy applied to it before primer. I would like to know what factory trained you and told you differently?
You talk with theory and practice at the same time. Life make you a teacher. Thanks a lot for your videos , really inspiring and cheerful.Say Hi to Joeline...GBY!
You're so informative and thorough with everything you show on your page that not only do I think I can weld, I also think I can spray paint on a car now too! ❤
great video.. when you started talking about trying not to spill primer it reminded me of doing that so much...when pouring primer like that and its full.. use some tape and go halfway around the upper part of your can and layer it.. then fold it a bit and run two more tape strips on the outter edges for support.. when you go to pour your primer it will act as one of those old timey oil spickets people used in those old oil cans.. when done and primer is done running back into the can just pull tape off.. just a trick I learned..
Hi Chad,. Did you drain the water from the compressor wipe down and clean metal with acetone spray a lite coat of etching primer on metal, and I hope the feather edge does not lift the old finish...happy sanding!!!!!!
Chad and the beautiful Jolene, as people would call her, love your channel and the things that you do. I'm from Texas and a shed tree mechanic. keep up the great work. Love your projects and the way you help others. Keep up the great work.
You promote confidence in yourself to someone… even with the gun comment.. doesnt matter the value of the item your using..its your skill that does the work.. great.
Chad your a very lucky man who has a wife that shares the same passion as you, cheers to both of you and more couples could should appreciate each other a bit more.
Great job Jolene!! Like a pro. Always willing to learn. Can't wait to see the final results. Maybe Jolene gona be spraying the Bugatti. Your a quick study, I'm sure you can do it. Bad Chad is a great teacher..I look forward to watching you guys every day. Always interesting for sure.
I believe you are correct. She is a natural. All she needs now is to know what she’s looking at as she does it. With practice I think she could lay down a perfect coat of paint
Chad, strange choice, especially when Evercoat's own TDS says not to use this over bare metal surfaces of more than 1 square inch. They say to use this product over epoxy primer on bare metals. I can only think the longevity of the paint will be affected, this being a high solids, sandable primer.
Chad I love the way u got Jolene to prime and mask. Jolene gun more straight down over surface and a little slower and 50% overlap. But u did good girl. Love your videos u 2.
G'DAY Chad & Jolene, great work with getting Primer laid down, the only prerequisite before spraying, that we have here in Queensland Australia is the checking and emptying of the water trap/ filter,as with our high humidity, moisture in air compressor and lines is a problem that must be addressed! To take up your challenge to call you out on a build or project,I've got one ,bring back your son Colten,to work to build your dream "CAFE RACER" style Kawasaki Z900 custom bike,to strip, restore and customise and have prepared and ready for paint, alongside the Bugatti, then have matching colour prized toys,as always Kindest Regards Dave McLaughlin Queensland Australia
Jolene you’re a beautiful human being Chad you’re a legend!!! Jolene doesn’t mind getting her hands and clothes dirty and learning the trade!! Chad loves to hand that incredible knowledge on!!! Great couple!!
Hi Chad and the beautiful Jolene, greetings from Ireland, absolutely Love your Channel and all your hard work and design skills, about that troublesome earth clamp on the mig welder have you ever considered adding a magnet instead of that crocodile clamp
i use tuff coat for a primer works good and bonds better first i use an etching primer for rust or metal surfaces for industrial paint jobs it is really strong hard to scrap with a knife then the tuff coat is a strong thick primer sandable for industrial paint jobs then seal and paint i get this stuff cheap real cheap but it normally cost twice as much if not a lot more i get dupont paint products 10% above the cost to make it from the owner of dupont but only for my projects only . a gal. sentary 5000 black with a gal of tuff with reducer for both for 50 bucks 1 stage paint 2 stage add 30 bucks
Youll find the best usually don't follow instructions, i learned from someone else so far no problems dtm with g2--- also remember these are usually garaged or show queens they'll never see the conditions of an everyday driver
Gosh man I've painted many many cars from model A to Ts from Ferraris to Lamborghini even a few Germans Japanese and American cars too mind you....all in my brain that is😂😂😂😂😂
The Featherfill G2 Tech sheet says not recommended to spray over bare metal. You should always use an epoxy or etch primer on bare metal DTM works as well. Nothing that Im an expert, I just read directions from time to time lol
The more you paint Jolene the better you get at it keep up the great work. We need more women auto painter's there's not that many of them. In the automotive industry that is.
