Living off the land for five days in the bush with minimal gear and only a small amount of rations - that was the game plan when my wife Tori and I began a 6km trek into a remote bever swamp where we'd meet up with Kai Marrone, owner of the traditional winter camping outfit Lure of the North and Jordan Jonas, winner of 'Alone' season 6 on the History Channel. Over the five days we were there, we built an A-frame style survival shelter with a fire inside it, we ate bever and scraped and stretched their skins. We cut firewood, collected winter wild edibles and made sets for bever. It was an amazing experience and much was learned.
