This project actually took me 1.5 days longer than I expected. I just had to let it go and invest the time needed. Our food and water was running out and while I could go foraging for food and water that would have greatly delayed me finishing the shirt so we ate and drank very little the third day and the last day we only drank a little water. I never plan fasts. They just happen involuntarily.

The vibe of your videos is immaculate, I haven’t found anyone else who can make a video that makes me feel like this! Your videos have me intrigued, but also calmed. The colours are usually calm and under saturated, very pleasing to the eyes in a world of bright and eye catching primary colours. You don’t cut out the beautiful in-betweens and blissful nothings that occur in life, like the wind blowing leaves, the calm of doing a monotonous task in the wind while observing the environment dancing around, and travelling through the quiet desert back to your tent, as the dust blows. It’s like I’m observing the unremarkable moments of the past laid bare before me, unremarkable moments that very few bothered to document and share. it’s these moments of blissfulness and peace, that can be shared in video in a way unlike a story could ever be. It’s a work of art, really.

That open weave might leave Chad a little chilled in cold winter winds, but will help keep him cool if he's going through temperature swings into warmer ranges and back. Conversely, by putting on a windproof barrier (such as the buckskin), the open weave will actually trap and hold quite a lot of body heat, and just getting out of the wind will help do the same thing. This is why the ability to put on or take off layers, ideally each with a different quality, is more important than chosing a single piece of clothing to try to cover all your needs. No one tool will work optimally in all situations, but a variety of tools, ideally each with multiple uses, will help cover a wide range of needs.
@ChadZuberAdventures

Wow, absolutely great job man, you put so much work into such a small thing. Though I have a tip for you: This winter I was on a deserted island in the philippines and I found out that you can use "Palm Cloth(The fabric-like material that grows in the base of the palm leaves)" to make a flexible pant if you sew it together along the grains. Unfortunately I didn't have yucca on the island or any other strong fibered plant, so I couldn't make high quality string, but the pant turned out very nice anyways, I managed to swim, climb a small mountain, climb a palm tree (not one but 6) and run on the beach for around 30 minutes until it got torn apart, (Again because I didn't have good cordage) so I was pretty amazed by how good it held up. If you find yourself near a palm tree that you can climb, I recommend checking it out, because this might just solve the problem with having to re-adjust it every time you equip it. Tough, amazing video as always, keep up the good work!👍
@ChadZuberAdventures
@ChadZuberAdventures 2 месяца назад
Yes, I know that palm material very well. I've collected a few pieces from coconut palms to experiment with and it indeed can be used to make clothing. It's a little stiff though. You can make cordage from fibers of the same material or take fibers from the palm branch.
@A.R.R.Original
@A.R.R.Original 2 месяца назад
@@ChadZuberAdventures It is a little stiff yes, but because of the # composition if you pull it to one of the corners it becomes kind of like rubber-cloth and becomes stretchy, I didn't really have time or the tools to properly align the grains so it becomes stretchy, but I'm sure it's possible to do so. 👍

Might I suggest either a back strap loom or a weighted warp loom? Both would have been used by indigenous peoples and are in use today. The back strap loom is portable, easy to set up and can make a reasonable width and length of fabric. Don't know if twining was used in the west or southwest but was common in the east and northeast. Just a thought.

I gotta say I love watching you use these primitive techniques, I can't wait to see you make a badass hat, socks and pants to match the shirt... It really is amazing to see how the primitive people overcame major problems, the absolutely genius techniques developed to overcome the hardships of simple life. Our Ancestors were absolute badasses and developed some amazing technology out of thin air to overcome the hardships they faced... Not gonna lie, I'd love to see you develop a mini village with a few other badass primitive youtubers... its just crazy to think that people back in they day just developed these techniques out of thin air. Most people think primatives were nothing but big dumb Neanderthals but they came up with some of some of most used technology today, back when there was nothing... no youtube, no internet, no books... just coming up with brilliant ideas out of nowhere to overcome the obstacles of life. 110% absolute badasses, without them we wouldn't have so many things we take for granted in our lives.

If you had a tool namely a comb ( use to comb your hair everyday ) to press down the horizonal thread weaved by the shuttle, this will increase the density of your " cloth ". I think that's fantastic. It's been a long time since I did more than forge iron, and I miss it. There's nothing quite like tanning a hide, seeing that mess turn into some soft buckskin. If I ever get another dog, I'll make sure it's a breed that produces lots of hair just in case I ever need to weave me a shirt!

Cool idea to use multiple types of cordage. I thought that it would make everything harder, since they have difference in elasticity and some are probably less comfortable to wear, like some sweaters, being itchy. But interesting way to create clothes.

That's a lot of trouble. I must make two pieces of netting and stuff debris between those pieces of net. I "quilt" thru the debris as need be, to keep the debris from all bulging out into one spot. This makes the front of the 'shirt' Repeat for the back. side of the shirt and lace-together the two pieces. When I dont need the debris for warmth, it can go into my bedding, leaving me with netting with which to catch fish.

🏆! Your primitive shirt is done beautifully. My compliments! 👕 For those interested: A Secret Tip To Making Non-Stretchy Fabric Stretchy Without Using Elastic, Crocheting It, Or Knitting It: 🧶🧵🪡 If you are ever up for another interesting challenge, you can figure out a way to loom on the bias (diagonal ⚒️⚔️🛠️), meaning that the warp and weft run diagonally on the loom, or, weave regularly, then cut the pattern pieces on the diagonal after weaving it horizontally and vertically, which means you'd need to knot the end of each thread so it wouldn't unravel. With the weave on the diagonal (sewing term: bias, with threads running like an "X" across the body), your shirt is then stretchy in both directions (from head to toe and side-to-side), making it auto-adjustable and easy-fit with no need for lacing or buttons, plus, it will loosen itself for you to get it on and off. Challenging, but might be worth the experiment. Non-stretchy fabrics turned 45 degrees (on the fabric bias) makes them stretchy with no elastic needed. You can test any of your non-stretchy woven (not knitted) fabric on this phenomenon by stretching it diagonally, and measuring how much more movement you can get on diagonal weaves. TaDA!
