Hello everyone, my name is Duong.
I am 32 years old.
I live in a poor mountainous area of Vietnam.
From a young age, I had to work hard to help my parents.
Difficult life is always around, I work and learn everything from my grandparents and the old people in the village.
Gradually, I mastered the skills.
5 years ago, I decided to live the challenge.
Determined to learn about the primitive way of life, I chose to live in the wilderness, alone.
Where there's no technology and forcing yourself to pass, it feels great!
How about you? Your life is definitely different from mine.
Have fun watching the video!

I invite everyone watching this video to go back the five or six years to when Duong made this pond, and even before when he used to garden and grow rice in the little hollow that was here before the pond. Watch the videos of him catching the ancestor-fish (or possibly the actual fish) that he settled the pond with and making a spawning pond to breed them in order to populate the early ponds. We are used to civilization, where people have many, many things that they themselves cannot create themselves from scratch. So, things like Duong's house, and the flat area it rests on, as well as the fields and pond all fade into the background. Go back and see how nothing like any of these places existed when this series started. Duong has created significant wealth with his intellect and his sweat.

Duong, there are multiple ways to make salt but some are better than others: 1: evaporate sea water 2: find rock salt mineral, extract it with crushing and water then evaporate 3: find a salt spring where water has already dissolved salt underground and evaporate 4: find dry Sandy spoil areas which might contain small amounts of salt, collect the sand in a basket and pour water through to dissolve any salt then evaporate 5: collect plants that contain salt then boil them lots and evaporate, or burn the plants and filter water through the ashes then evaporate To find salt deposits you can try following animal trails in the forest. Pigs, deer and lots of other animals need salt so they will all go to the same area to get salt. The animals will scrape or lick rocks or soil that contains salt, they will also eat plants that contain salt. It would also be really great to see you make glass one day, but it would be a lot of work.

You can obtain natural salt in two ways. The first method involves evaporating water taken from salty water sources. The second method is using rock salt, typically found in mountains and often appearing gray or blue. Once you find these rocks, you need to crush them into a powder. However, this powder may contain small stone particles, so to remove them, you must dissolve the mixture of stones and salt in water. Afterward, filter the water, evaporate it, and obtain pure salt.

The easiest way in your case is to extract salt from ash. To extract salt from ash, we need the ash itself, but not just any kind, but from deciduous trees (hazel works well). You should choose dry wood and build a good fire from it, which should burn until the coals are completely burned out, so that as much ash as possible is formed. After which the ash should be collected in a vessel, pour boiled (warm) water and mix thoroughly. Then you need to let the contents settle. The ash should infuse for quite a long time: at least three to four hours, and preferably more. After some time, you can taste the water from the vessel; it will be salty! It can already be added to food, but for greater concentration it is better to evaporate excess water by placing the vessel over the fire and stirring the contents. This method of salt extraction is the most affordable, but requires a lot of time and the presence of deciduous wood.

Making salt without access to the sea is very difficult. There is a reason anyone in antiquity that could farm it were rich after all... I would not recommend rock salt mining suggested elsewhere in the comments. It is hard to separate the impurities which can be very dangerous to ones health. Just as this salt producing method should probably be avoided as well... Without a method to remove the lye from the salt-water Duong will burn thru his stomach over time. His kids eat his fish guys, dont be suggesting dumb things. Just buy the salt in the village, then you get the added Iodine that is crucial for development of young kids and maintaining health as an adult.

For salt, hopefully you have some plants in your area that have a high salt content. You would soak them in water to dissolve the salt from the plant sap into the water, then either boil off the water or let it evaporate naturally. With luck salt crystals will form, and then you have salt. Need to research plants in your area for the type that will produce the highest salt content.

I want very much to meet the team behind these videos. I understand that the "story" of channels like these is that the person on-screen is doing all of this completely alone, but I would still like to see how the farm is really filmed and managed. It's not like it would make the channel seem fake or anything - whether Duong (or his wife) do everything the hard way all by themselves every single time doesn't matter, we've _seen_ them do it the hard way all by themselves and know that they can. Humans live in groups, so working with other people is part of "Primitive Skills". But, alas, that doesn't seem to be the kind of channel that they want to have, so some things remain a bit of a mystery.

In the forest, salt can be extracted from wood ash. To do this, it is better for you to take hardwoods, the best option is hazel. Burn dry logs and branches in a fire to ashes. Pour it into a large pot and pour warm boiled water over it, stir well. This mixture should stand for quite a long time - 3-4 hours or all night. Try to taste the solution. It should be salty. I guess the most obvious question to ask is how did your grandparents, great grandparents and on back, get salt in your area? There must already be a well know method that was used there by locals. Unless, salt was extracted from sea water and imported inland. Some have commented that you can get salt from plants and roots of plants, but many of those probably are not native to your area or country. So you might visit with some of your elder family members or villagers and ask them about what plants they have heard can be used to extract salt from. This will be an interesting adventure! : )

Here in my southeast region of Brazil, my grandfather would place a warm blanket on the horse's back to absorb its sweat and then this blanket would be washed and the water would evaporate in the sun, leaving the salt

hello duong! ive heard of a method of extracting salt from the roots of plants but i do not know the full method. you can also dry out dandelion leaves, burn them and collect the ash and use that on food as its supposed to be salty ash. hope this helps! :)

Salt is obtained naturally from seawater or underground sources. To produce salt by natural methods, you can obtain salt by drying sea water in the sun or under the influence of wind.

If you have no other choices, you can extract salt from some plants. Boiling pieces of hickory, walnut, and pecan roots extracts nutrients like sodium from the plant. Also, burning dry coltsfoot leaves yields salt-rich ashes. Use either method in a survival situation.

Oooohhh...Salt! do you have access to the ocean? make seasalt? I think that'd be the easiest way. I think it could be fun to have like an "expedition" maybe bring some supplies, a cute montage of you traveling for days....or however far it is....and then make seasalt, and collect a kilo or so of it. I think there's a couple ways, eitehr boiling the water away in a pot, or you can make wide shallow trays, and let evaporation distill away, and concentrate the salt. otherwise, I've heard of african reeds that you can refine salt from the reeds....and...I guess there's rocksalt....hmm....

If there is a see or an ocean nearby you can boil down to salt or use sunlight for brine. Salt is necessary for your farm, other than cooking it will help you preserve the food for an extensive periods of times, especially fish.
