I really find the heavy breathing of HRH Philip and the close-up of him just amazing for me. You can see the pain that he felt when he lost his family and how much he could relate.

Honestly, it's more than that. Prince Phillip can relate to the distance Charles is feeling from William in that moment. You can see the regret he feels in the way he treated Charles as a teenager. In the show he was portrayed as too harsh, and insensitive to Charles's needs. Charles turned to the Queen and not to him. Which is why in the next scene we see him watch old home videos and pictures of him and Charles when Charles was younger than William.

I think it’s more that in that moment he realized how badly he had failed Charles as a father and sees the chance to do his duty to his son for a change.

Phillip has made me cry on this show more than anyone else. Perhaps it's my daddy issues but... Between the story of his favorite pregnant sister dying in a plane crash, to walking behind her casket, to his father's brutal treatment of him, to his mother's charity services and her mental health struggles and being embarrassed of her, to going to boarding school, to his awareness of his shortcomings as a father. His story line deserves it's own show.

Ironically out of the royal family, Phillip in my opinion has come across very justified even if there might be certain parts that are not accurate depending on who knows him. I think he manages to show that side that is ironically relatable, such as certain wicked sense of humors, feeling lost in the position he was in when he suddenly lost his navy job to help support his wife and the monarchy, wanting to help but was not as welcomed in the early days, to eventually trying to be the best guide he could provide to his family, and highlighting the many mistakes made, I think Philip came out as someone we can’t help but respect. Even better how not just that those in the throngs doubted the late Queen’s capabilities but they also doubted Philip for what was required of him, we can now say both ended up proving their places to be in an endearing spot in many people’s memories as they did their duty to be a service to the crown.

@@kate2create738I respected Prince Philip. He stood his ground as a husband and a father. Philip wouldn’t let any “Establishment” rules dominate him or dictate to him what to do or how to feel about anything. As far as HE was concerned, his children were HIS children FIRST - and NOT property that belonged to The Crown.

0:52 The moment Philip felt regret when Charles did not even ask him for help and asked his mother instead to talk with William. Despite being a harsh father with mistakes, he understood what his son was feeling as a father too. So he helped Charles without telling him by talking with William and telling how every father makes mistakes.

Right? I’m questioning how they got this idea that William was resentful to the people, understandable with the press as he didn’t like them prior to Diana’s death. The one who admitted being resentful to the people was Harry and there’s no sources to say William ever felt this way.

The remoteness in those letters between Philip and his father, as well as Philip and Charles, is honestly quite sad. I'm sure a lot of this is dramatised and semi-fiction but it wouldn't surprise me if there was some truth in it. It's encouraging to see a happy, warm and tight bonds with the Wales' family. William will be a great king and mentor towards George when he's a bit older

William has, sadly, completely abandoned his mother's philosophies and become a member of The Firm. Diana would be heartbroken to see how he's shut his brother out and abandoned him. That's not who she raised him to be; but that's who he's become.

This episode reminded me of episodes from earlier seasons where Lord Mountbatten, or "Dickie," as the royal family called him, filled in the gaps where the fathers in this family failed. He was not their father. He was an uncle, yet he still filled the role of the patriarch of the royal family even as the queen was technically the head. He was there for Phillip when his father failed him. He was there for Charles when Phillip failed him. (Although, he wasn't perfect either. His bad advice contributed to the disastrous three-person-Wales-marriage. But he was there for them. That's miles ahead of many fathers out there.) Charles was absolutely right when he said the family is not great at fathers and sons. Camilla was absolutely right that it is no excuse. So I feel like Phillip took on the role of Dickie in this situation for William, stepping up where Charles was failing. But part of his stepping up included convincing William to forgive Charles, thereby breaking the cycle of ... "abuse" is probably too strong of a word. Perhaps "distrust"? And while I am aware The Crown is fiction dramatized for the purpose of a narrative arc, it is based on historical events and facts, so with that in mind, I hope that William is a better father to his children than Charles was to him or Phillip was to Charles. (Same with Harry and his kids.)
@fredrika27
@fredrika27 7 месяцев назад
But what is so sad in all of this is the fact Harry got left behind again. Had Phillip spoken with Harry, heard him out, then where would Harry be today? There was a major lack of actually seeing both William and Harry as needing guidance. Indeed, Charles sent both sons back to school a mere three weeks after Diana died. The teachers at their schools were instructed not to mention anything, so they didn't. The result being that both men have their demons today. William looks miserable and scowls all the time. Katherine also looks unhappy.
@umitencho
@umitencho 7 месяцев назад
And Harry left the country as soon as he saw the same signs in Meghan as he saw in his mother. I think that's why William is at odds with Harry: Harry left him for greener pastures. He feels abandoned again, but the problem is that like Margaret, he is his own individual with needs, but being the spare and now fringe, no one has been paying attention to him. Charles found out about his mental spiral & smoking habits through an interview. They failed Harry spectacularly. @fredrika27

I mean Philip lost his sister, his father wasn't the best, his uncle Mountbatten was his father figure, and he was tough on Charles...maybe Philip saw his own father in Charles because of Charles's affair with Camilla...maybe he realized that his distance was what led Charles to make all those mistakes, and now it's affecting William. It feels like it's generational, and the one thing that stays is regret at not being able to do it over and do it better...Philip probably wished that he could have done better by Charles. But he sees Charles doing something for William that, he didn't do for Charles or that his own father didn't do for him, and that was to try and understand his son.
@girl1213
@girl1213 4 месяца назад
This is why he tells William that he will one day see rage directed at him from the eyes of his sons for being an heir and a spare. He's not accusing William of anything but warning him that what he feels towards his father now will likely be the same his sons (the future Prince George and Louie) will feel of some sort towards him one day. Because Charles as felt this way towards him, and Philip towards his own father. It's natural for sons to resent their fathers for their mistakes, so Philip tells William to forgive because it's not worth living in resentment for the rest of your life. He doesn't have to like how Charles treated Diana or that Diana left him too early or even like Camila as a person, but forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting: it just means peace for one's self.

First off. Anyone else look for a Blue Box when you saw Matt Smith? Then we need to look at HOW children were raised pre-WWI, and how they were raised post-WWII. BIG difference. And it changed more so between 1950 and 1980. Children went from “being seen and not heard” to “one of the largest demographics the world has seen” (Hello Baby Boom generation). And I know I’ll catch flack for this. But there was a marked difference in how my own father acted (raised in WWII) after my mother (his wife) died. I was/am the black sheep of the family. And when I was sent to Germany and then to Iraq (join the Army, see the world), my father would call my wife to see how she and my kids were getting on. Before my mom died, that wouldn’t have happened. He softened. It wasn’t a lot a first. But when I caught up with him a year before he died, we understood more about each other (he was a Korean War veteran, and I had just come back from the 3rd of what would end up with 5 deployments). And the wild thing is, my two older brothers are both just like my Dad before our Mom died. I see it, and I’m pretty sure my Dad saw it too. It was interesting to see the look on his face when I showed up at the hospital a week before he died. It was the look old soldiers give each other; the “oh shit” this is real look. He and I knew how this hospital stay was going to end, my siblings didn’t; until I pulled out his DNR paperwork. The death of my Mom 5 years earlier, helped soften my Dad. I wish I had some extra time before he went (so many unasked questions). We all wish that. But the key thing, is a person needs to grieve. And we all grieve differently. If William wants to get back to school. Let him, for a while. He’ll know when the stress gets to him and grades suffer. It might take a week, might take a year. But it’s gonna happen.

Diana left a gigantic chasm that is still felt today, if Charles truly cared for his sons, he wouldn't have pushed for a separation and left his family in tatters, It is quite ludicrous how he is hailed as advanced and modern yet, couldn't break the shackles of his rigid parenting style and display affection for his loved ones aside from Camilla who capitalized on his weaknesses.. Prince William understands the demands and needs of his own children and never fails to shower them with love which is only a facet of his mother's influence ❤

My best guess is that it is part of a library of instrumental tunes made available to The Crown production team. You might try searching the credits of this particular episode, although often these snippets aren't credited at all. There are apps (such as Shazam) that can identify many pieces...However, this, too, draws a blank.
