Saying that her popularity was transferred to their son rather than Camilla I think would have been okay to say. However, to say people would prefer their son over him as king...that was the wrong thing to say. At the very least, the wrong way to say it.
Charles DID stand up to his parents and he did defend Camilla. Maybe Diana wasn't worth it? She was bitter and vindictive. No need to write a book about Charles and give these unnecessary interviews and...
@@fortranwarrior8716 Yes, naive and immature describes every teen bride. A 32 year old man thought the young girl would be easy to control. Just used as breeding stock. He forgot that even in the old days, the hold mothers have over their sons often spells doom for their abusers.
@@JoanMorrison-vq2jc Even though he stayed only with Camilla, that doesn't make him any less guilty of committing adultery. Same goes for Diana. Both of them were unfaithful to their marriage vows.
@@AlmondJoie Yes. I agree. Remember there were so many people involved in their arranged oops I mean DERANGED marriage. There was plenty of guilt and shame to go around and yet Charles seems to get 99 percent of it. Interesting 🤔🤔.
In real life, they cried on the couch together on the day the divorce was finalized. He would come over for tea at Kensington where they laughed and chatted. Diana always loved him but accepted that he always loved Camilla. This scene is dramatized but I think it summarized the direction they were headed.
I could be wrong but I think had Diana lived longer - Charles and Diana would have still been feuding and fighting because this is exactly how Diana got all her attention. She probably would have been a perennial heartache for her sons and the royal family and Charles and even the Spencer family. Diana unfortunately wasn't comfortable until everything was in chaos! She was the mother of the future king of England so no one could really bounce this troublemaker. And I'm guessing Diana would have loved getting in the middle of William and Harry fighting to look like the long suffering mom and ex-wife. Maybe Diana would have somehow upstaged the coronation of Charles and Camilla. This truly was Diana's "thing" she LOVED her dramas!
@@JoanMorrison-vq2jcI don’t think so. Had Diana lived, Charles still wouldn’t have been allowed to marry Camilla. Harry would not have gone off the rails the ways he did. Diana wouldn’t have allowed it. Kate Middleton may have still entered the picture, but Megan wouldn’t have. Diana wouldn’t have allowed Harry to be involved with such a woman. She would’ve seen right through Megan and would have told Harry about her and that would’ve broken up that relationship. Harry and William would have never been fractured the way they are now. Diana wouldn’t have allowed that either.
Not entirely. Diana would not go along with the expectations of being wife to the heir apparent. She seemed to want a normal marriage, which this certainly was not. Even had Charles not been cheating (as indeed Diana did as well), things still would not have been right for her.
@@eliza5960 She was not a child. What is it with people trying to infantilize adults? Also, in some ways, they are all “used by the establishment” because that’s how being the royal family works: you don’t always get what you want. If you want to say Diana was too immature to understand that, then perhaps that is correct. But that doesn’t mean she was a child-just an immature adult.
@@fortranwarrior8716 The main problem was caused by his affair, which yes was made worse by the media and him being a prince but he cheated way before she did, he ruined the marriage. Her not adjusting perfectly to the transition to a princess was not what destroyed their marriage, as hard as it can be at times for us to understand
It's not just that; McNulty, God bless him, is also way too authoritative and charismatic, playing a man who I have NEVER seen been authoritative or charismatic.
Oh Charles.. you were always looking for a scapegoat.. never there to apologize... You took your anger out on the wrong person, when it should have been your parents..
@@AndyBluebear-fi9omHe used Diana, He discarded Diana. He never had the courage to simply marry Camilla. She is perfect for him. Diana was way too good for him.
“ why did you want to marry me” Charlie’s reply… “ cuz I had to” Talk about stabbing the heart ♥️ again and again. Diana loved him but Charlies never did. Maybe after her death but it’s only until she’s gone that he truly cared for her.
He didn't care about her, he held regret over the way he treated her. Regret is summarized when you feel bad for someone over something you did, but given the chance would readily do it again.
Everyone knew Diana was too young to see and think of the marriage as one of the components of State and duty. ‘The Firm’ CHOSE Diana for the role of mother of a future Monarch. She possessed the family background/heritage that The Firm considered to be needed for a future Monarch. 💡
She was a child compared to him & with all the complications of Royalty that he knew for his lifetime. It’s ridiculous to blame her for anything. They destroyed her, got two heirs. There is more to say but it doesn’t matter now.
@@Debra-v1e I totally agree with you. All I will add is Diana deserved so much better. We all look for true love and if we are lucky we find it, we deal with the ups and downs of life, raise our children and do our best in tough times. Camilla and Charles deserve each other.
This scene did a good job of showing that some love and respect was there between them but with so much incompatibility. Like anytime it got good, it soon became clear it wouldn’t last. It’s such a realistic take on 2 souls just not being meant for one another.
He Blamed all his short comings on Diana, he was the epitome of a privileged individual with no real redeeming qualities , no substance who i think was very jealous of his own wife's popularity and just plain star power, a very sad man,,i hope it was worth it, I'm quite sure it wasn't
don't really want to delve into who's right or wrong... but just to praise Elizabeth Debicki's acting: I think I've never seen an actress capable of playing an emotionnaly wounded woman like her, this is crazy !!
Charles should have abdicated when he publicly acknowledged Camila as his only love. His relationship with Camila is that of a weak, arrogant, child who fell prey to his nanny of a mistress.
@@CaptainPikeachuright. Abdication would’ve been a dirty word in that household. QE2 had strong feelings about it and look at the example of duty, dedication and longevity she set. It would never have even been considered an option.
Diana didn’t realize when she married that you can’t change an institution which has existed for a thousand years. The institution was cold and unmoving but always sided with Charles which drove Diana to find what Charles chose to not give in anywhere possible.
Yeah, I think very few people are really "born" to do something. Obviously, the expectation at his birth was that he _would_ be king, and so "born to do it" is a reasonable way of talking in that sense. But that's not the same as being suited to it. I kind of think people should be realistic about how a person's inclinations and gifts can't possibly be known at birth and change over the course of their life. Having hereditary head of state for life is just...silly.
Yes, you’ve made an excellent point here. The mistake his parents made was in rearing Charles with his expectation of becoming Monarch ~ not to have any give/take with people.
It's just amazing that the same actor played crass classless McNulty on The Wire. He disappears so much into each character that I didn't even recognize his face!
I wished they showed the full scene from arrival. It’s designed to mirror their entire relationship. Initial interest and coy flirting, getting to know each other, an imperfect, but sweet family dinner and then finally bitter arguments and storming out.
Each time I watch this show i wonder if they are all extremely nasty to each other or if this is just drama. Their houses are so dark inside and no one cares.
@@artboxfashion4042 Well said! I agree. There were a few scenes when I could barely see the actor or actress or I couldn't make out who was who!! Turn on the lights!!
"Can we use her name, today" Why? My God, why pour vinegar in this woman's wounds like that??? You hurt her irreparably and you want her to respect and mention that old t$&t? My God, some men are so emotionally sadistic and cruel.
Diana wrote a book about Charles and gave horrible interviews about her own husband! She poured salt and vinegar and pepper 🌶️🌶️🫑🫑 in his wounds! Diana was bitter and nasty 🤢🤢 even as a child ! She also admitted to all this. My goodness some women are sadistic and cruel.
@@JoanMorrison-vq2jcshe had separated from Charles when she did that interview. She was entitled to say what she liked about Charles. And remember Charles did an interview of his own before Diana did.
If Diana really said that, she was spot on. By this time William was outpacing Charles in popularity. Until the present day people would prefer him be king. Neither Charles nor Diana were innocent in that marriage, but she was right about that and Charles knows it.
Him imposing her to say the other ones name was cruel. he is a coward :" ask my parents" if you are man enough to betray and to do things behind ones back ,why not be a man to say no . spoiled to say the least
"I married you because i loved you and we have two sons together, we are a family" If those heavy words didn't stop Charles from ruining everything then how did royal family decide he's even fit to be king after Elizabeth? They should never have given him even a chance.
Only these two people truly know what happened. But from my point of view Charles is a brat and has always been. He could’ve not married Diana and stuck to his true love. But he chose the crown over Camilla - so to me he is more to blame But Diana was immature and could’ve handled it better too. But what is done is done.
Imagine it if diana walked away during the engagement. I dont accept this that she didn't know anout camilla. As charles once said " im not going to be the first prince of Wales who didn't have a mistress'
I read a story ,after her death in 1997, that Diana had second thoughts, days before the wedding. It was either her sister, or her mother that told her it was too late to back out "Your picture is already in all the tea towels" was the quote. I am convinced Diana did believe Camilla was just a friend to Charles and that their love affair was in the past. Diana and Charles were two people that were just toxic together, they should have not married.
She wanted to... She told her sisters she wanted to back out and they pressured her not to... She didnt know about Camilla at first but she realized not long before the wedding. Maybe if she'd been older and more mature she would've taken the backlash and drama of backing out of a royal wedding, but she was so young
Yes but this was Diana looking for love because her husband was incapable of loving her. Charles sought to deceive right from the start. Charles is a self centered, privileged, over indulged man child. Diana just wanted to be with someone who could love her as she was
He still blames Diana for the breakdown of the marriage. I hate him so much. I hope that he goes to he'll so his son, William, can take over. He is the stupid selfish person I have come across. He had the right to say I would not marry Diana while I am in love with someone else. SELFISH immoral Camila
The way they portrayed Diana, especially in the last 2 seasons was absolutely despicable and I am convinced that was the whole purpose of this entire series to begin with.
Maybe you watchee something else? She isn't portrayed as a bad person at all, it's surprisingly realistic. What did you want? Her portrayed as a perfect sweet human being who did nothing wrong, a complete martyr among evil people? That wouldn't be true either
Why do so many subscribe to The Legend of Saint Diana? She also said and did terrible things. She wasn't blameless in that marriage, and I applaud The Crown for portraying her as a flawed human - royal or not.
Hope you're kidding. She met him at 16 and then they got married when she was 20, they had not met many times before the wedding though... She wanted to back out of the wedding as soon as she realized how terrible he was but her family pressured her not to.
She was right, he's not fit to be king. He carried on with the married woman his entire marriage (and she was no angel either...she married while Charles served his country in the military, and wore white to his wedding with Diana). In the past, a divorced man was not allowed to become king. The should have kept the rule and passed the crown down to William.
But how much karma did these two people do in their lives, damn, the next life will be very hard for both of them. In any case, soon AI will allow us to use the same face of any famous or well-known person in the history of this world to be able to use it in movies or television series, even their same voices, then actors who look facially similar will no longer be necessary whoever you want to represent, if not you will only need similar height and complexion, it will be very incredible to see Charles and Diana themselves acting in a movie or television series soon :D
