Prince was the Grateful Dead of synth funk pop majesty. He could take a pop song and extend it to it's logical end with vamps and noodling and inventive funk. Prog funk to the Nth.
First of all, this is IRONY. as a fact, I saw the Grateful Dead in Philadelphia back in 94, and Prince was stopping the next weekend on Lovesexy tour. I was tripping face wishing I was there instead. Anyway the dead had 2 shows and the night I tripped they did their’space’ stuff….lovesexy was all I tripped. Prince owns me to this day. Sorry for the ramble but you might understand 💜💜🌟
Definitely 👍🏼 ‘I could never take the place of your man’ is a 6+ minute track. First 3 minutes or so is a pop radio bubble gum singalong. Last 3 minutes is a deep dark guitar and drum prog rock indulgence.
@@johnarundell7951Is there actually a Parade super deluxe coming out? I really hope so. I feel that some of the Dream Factory tracks they used for the SOTTs super deluxe really belonged on a Parade SD. But there’s still some juicy tracks leftover from that period. The original Old Friends 4 Sale recording for example.
Before my beloved friend and adoring angel Prince Rogers Nelson so quietly passed away....he came out here to Inglewood California at the forum arena and he performed an extended version of mountains but it didn't sound quite like this version i absolutely love both versions ❤❤❤ thanks for the upload ❤❤❤
I listened to this jewel years ago and I remembered it was a sweet journey into heaven. I am listening to it for the first time in years and it's still beyond the beauty of all Universes .... Tonight, I met Prince in my dreams... his energy is always so powerfully full with creativity and joy. 🥰🥰🥰Thank you for all you give to us, purple soul!!!!!!🥰🥰🥰
Beautifully said my friend. I’m 63 and been a Prince fan since day 1. Went to 4 of his electric energy shows, every kind of person was their Some folks in their 70’s. I saw him in Oakland 1 month before he passed. Trippy thing is that he came out on his bicycle for his encore , it tickled me, now the sad 😢thing is that’s how I saw him last on that same bicycle circling the CVS…..😢……. I Miss Prince😢….
@@MrSanpj I enjoyed him live once in Madrid with Diamonds and Pearls tour. It was one of the best times in my entire life. No words to describe the kind of inner journey I went through while watching him dance and play his music... it was an extraordinary multi-dimensional experience... forever in my DNA 💜💜💜💜💜
I have this 12" record too but I can't play it anymore because my record player is missing a turntable belt. But thank you for this recording, at least. 💜
I love this version of Mountains.r I p Prince. Prince had Bobby Z play and had Shelia E play he loved both ,this what we are listening to awesome thank you .
I remember buying this exact LP back in 1989 specifically 'Alexa De Paris'. I loved that scene in Under the Cherry Moon where Christopher ended up calling Mary "cabbage head" after they danced to this song with the ocean view in the background.
@JaniceRael You HAVE to watch Under the Cherry Moon if you're discovering Prince's music and entertaining greatness. There's music from the movie that's hard to find or unreleased. Still love that movie to this day!
I am m thinking of the video with Wendy on guitar. I was fortunate enough to meet her and get a picture with her after he passed. The Revolution was doing a reunion tour to help people heal from his passing. 💜 Look at those abs, what a man!!!
Another Lonely Christmas, 17 Days, She’s Always in My Hair and Alexa De Paris has to be the best run of b-sides of all time. I love the Parade album, and the tour too. I really hope we get a Parade deluxe edition with Under The Cherry Moon in color, and the rest of the songs from the Dream Factory era, (including the original recording on Old Friends 4 Sale). Even though I feel that Parade and SOTT are logically connected, if they gave us a ATWIAD plus Parade deluxe release I’d be all over that too.
9:58 See the music notation on the chalkboard? Ever wondered what it sounded like or what it was? Me too! I’ve played it as written. I assume there might be more music before those four chords so I can only guess as to the key signature, since it’s not shown. However, the chords as is make sense without a key signature. They’re exactly the type of chords Lisa loved to play, and they’re the type of chords Prince would have heard when Lisa first auditioned for his band. They have a Joni Mitchell and mellow jazz sound to them, much like you’d hear on Purple Rain, ATWIAD and Parade. If anyone wants to hear that short clip of music, ask and I’ll post it on my channel.
@@jonylawson73 No .. Wendy and Lisa wrote the music, Prince wrote the lyrics. They recorded the demo in London without Prince before it was recorded with Prince a couple of weeks later in Minneapolis.
magic - you see it, feel it, but you never know what it is or how it works... it seems the saxophones at 1:28 are the most "down to earth" thing about this, otherwise it is all swirls and abstraction, including the vocals - but then in the extended section at 4:02 things become clear... a guitar, a marimba, sax/trumped/bass solos... much clearer view on the scene.
