Composed in honour of Prince George of Denmark, 2nd son of King Frederick III of Denmark. Also Prince consort to Queen Anne of England, Scotland and Ireland until 1707 and from 1707 Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.

I hope I may be forgiven for mentioning that this piece achieved immense fame in 1940 when the BBC played it, in one of the old slow arrangements featuring a solo trumpet, and attributed as it then was to Purcell under the title "Trumpet Voluntary" immediately after broadcasting the news of the surrender of France.

Beautiful, I’m currently working at a rebuilding project of a Catholic baroque church in Rotterdam (The Netherlands) that was destroyed at the Rotterdam Blitz at 05/14/1940 and if the church will be rebuilded and consecrated than i want this at the begin of the Mass.

Elizabeth Smith it’s most known version is a trumpet voluntary, which means it’s written for trumpet + organ, but it was originally written as a piece for harpsichord.

Sounds great but they would’ve never play it this fast in the Baroque period. It’s an English March written for royals, not athletes, which is slower than American marches and definitely not this tempo.

How is this tuning so perfect? Normally the tuning sounds odd when playing with natural trumpets. Was the tuning fixed in post?

Definitely born in the wrong era, but unfortunately this glorious music was only for the very few privileged ears of the wealthy and the aristocracy. No you tube then or other means of mass communication.
