I love the last clip when he shouts at everyone to get the photo taken and the queen just puts her hand on his leg as if to say “my knight in shining armour” 😂
He regularly was her enforcer that way. She could never breach decorum that way. But they had this connection where he’d prod others into action in a way the Queen couldn’t. In one great example they were driving along waving through the sunroof, the Queen whispered one word and Phillip bent over and ordered the driver to hurry up
There is an actual clip of Prince Phillip (the real one) basically yelling to “take the f*cking photo”. I assume the filmakers took that as an inspiration for this scene.
One of my favorite stories about Philips wit was during a visit to Australia at the airport one of the boarder agents jokingly asked him if he had a criminal record to which Philip replied. "Oh I didn't know it was still a requirement."
So you think that the husband of the head of state, after being received at the airport by the Prime Minister, local dignitaries, a military band, and the press, was next escorted through customs to answer standardized questions from a civil servant working for his wife?
“I thought you were hoping for more children from me.” “I am.” “Then why on earth would you do something like that to your hair?” “What’s wrong with it? I thought it was tidy and sensible.” “Adjectives to stir the loins.” 🤣
@@xxwhispersxx2856 Their affairs are in no way comprable to _The_ Royal Marriage. Monarchy can handle some controversy amongst Monarch’s children, but it can’t handle a controversy in the Monarch’s own marriage. You can’t just say “Well, Queen’s consort cheated on her unfortunately.”
@@owencheng523 Well, when a husband and wife are in their marital bedroom, talking in a suggestive tone about spending more time alone together, and the husband suggests the wife "gets on her knees", there's no way they could be talking about anything sexual! None at all! Why would it cross the minds of a married couple with (at the time) two children?
@@rachelfox8108 sorry m8 perhaps as u May saw by my username I am not a native speaker,so without context and also representative towards certain cultural noms,on her knees vaguely represent the idea one on top and one below thus suggesting my rather confused mind that DOFE is asking for a BJ from HMTQ,which is extremely weird thx for clearing up for me
@@owencheng523 Hey, you're right, that was rude of me to assume that you might not have picked up on the cues for a good reason, so, sorry about that. (For the record, I'm from a fairly diverse country and have learned to not assume someone's English proficiency by their last name, as many of the people I work with and come across with non-English last names are either native English speakers or highly proficient).
Yes, he was like that. As an example, he said about the failed kidnap of Princess Anne "I'm glad it didn't succeed. Anne would have gave the kidnappers a rough time."
3:04 liked how they put together this scene. They are talking about having a favourite child. Here we see Phillip has a single portrait behind him while Elizabeth has several of them. She can't allow herself to have a favourite bc it's not her role and she can't escape it.
Anyone in the know would be able to say with pretty solid confidence that it was Andrew. She wouldn't admit it, but it was always obvious to those close to the family
@@mypointofview1111of all the things Andrew has been accused of, I don’t remember murder being on the list. Unless you think he somehow sneaked into a US prison to kill Epstein?
The discussion of the favorite child kills me every time. “Is it about his sense of direction.” “Any honest parent.” “Liar, you’re lack of self knowledge is breathtaking!”
Mine too! He's the one royal that I took a strong liking to after watching The Crown. I suppose it holds meaning that I started watching it about a month after he died.
The show definitely got his personality right. He was very sarcastic and told dirty jokes all the time. He also had a huge passion for science and advancements in technology.
Great casting for Philip, but I must say the younger one was my favorite, I feel like I was kinda scared of him a little bit, while that didn’t happen with the older one. I never met Philip but I think that’s the feeling people get when they are around him, sure he is sarcastic and funny but also a little intimidating
@@Medevicerep Older one is such a great actor. In this case maybe you prefer younger one. I d suggest to watch outlander, it's a joy to watch Tobias Menzies performance
Definitely. I adore the scene where he called sweetie on the palace PA system, where staff assumed he was calling the queen but instead he was calling for his favorite child, Anne
I wish we could see the scene where Philip and Elizabeth continue talking about their children and their favorites and when Elizabeth mentions Andrew and Philip says "Your Favorite!".....It's been said by countless people that its true. How heartbreaking for the Queen to have her favorite disgrace them all so....
@@jimmy2k4o lol Who paid off the fees to Giuffre? That £12 million or whatever settlement? HM paid it, was in the papers here - and she’s tried several times to sneak him back into the public eye. He was supposed to be appearing at all the jubilee events but “unluckily” (how very coincidental…) came down with covid early on the first day before things got going.
as far as i see, its all just accusations from a woman who wants money, and got it because the me too movement fad. he said she said. women are liars, i know I'm a woman and see them act like it, very crafty. if she really was serious, she would have gone through with a trial, but she wanted the money. and the Queen isn't an idiot.
I thought both Claire Foy and Olivia Coleman both hit Elizabeth out of the park, but I prefer Tobias Menzies’s Philip over Matt Smith’s. Will be curious to see how Imelda Staunton and Jonathon Pryce do. And just for the record, it’ll be weird for me to see Imelda Staunton playing Elizabeth after seeing her play Umbridge in the Harry Potter movies in the same way it was weird for me to see Matt Smith play Philip after he played the 11th Doctor.
Philip was certainly a bit wild, and he was a good looking man. There were voices of him being well, more than appropriately equipped down there as well. Plus it's only natural for a man to express lust for his wife (and vice versa). Glad to see they portrayed that!
Well when Phillip had a family member visit him and she remarked that the queen looked magnificent he remarked yes she does and she's like that everywhere
In the context of this show, even though dramatization for media sake, I can't imagine one year having just mundane conversations with someone for the 72nd year in a row and the next year where you sat with, stood with, or walked with, it's just one; I'm not surprised soon after Philip died did Elizabeth begin a health decline. I wouldn't be able to live life if someone I'd been married to for the past seven decades was gone.
I really love Prince Philip. He is very straight forward and true. No beating around the bush and wasting time. He's also the vocal voice of HM, better him to criticized than HM.
That first scene reminds me of the scene in the movie "Grand Budapest Hotel" where Ralph Fiennes was not impressed with Tilda Swinton's nails. The candid comments I think are appreciated and communicates the level of trust and intimacy in the relationship.
I love how the Queen just goes "Philip!" at 3:34 and right after that she just turns and says "Anne..." She knows these two are a menace. And that is why Anne is Philips favourite, just like her father ❤
With the amount of biting remarks Prince Philip has made about just about everyone, the Crown writers must have had a hard time choosing. Rest in peace, Your Royal Sassiness.
So who's the queens favorite and why? I can see why Philip liked Ann but not sure about the queens favorite. I'm guessing Andrew or at least he was her favorite before the Epstien thing.
@@Kashish4Eijaz He was the first child she saw as her child and not as her heir. Charles and Ann have always been the heir and the spare, always a symbol of her own death
Andrew. Because Charles is heir (she couldn't give her much love because of this) and the way he had problems with his marital life, I think Queen was bothered too. Anne being like his dad, kinda rude or rough. She had marital problems as well. She sounds like complain box. She loved her dad but we didn't see any good moment with mom. For Edward, youngest guy who went to Gordonston, he was living very - typical rowdy boy life. Bullying and getting bullied at same time and worrying about pocket money more than meeting his family. Kind of another complain box. This leaves Andrew. Who not only was happy in his job, he was cheery, fun loving guy. He wasn't complain box or had any dark marital life. He wasn't first heir, nor dad's fav and neither problematic person. I think this is the reason Queen's fav was Andrew.
@@madinamaiga8360 actually Andrew replaced Ann as the spear when he was born because at the time the monarchy only practice male primogeniture it wasn’t until 2013 that parliament changed it to absolute primogeniture which basically means that female royals no longer have to give up their place in the line of succession To the males
Like the time that the Africa tribesmen greeted the royal couple in their traditional garb and Philip said, "Oh, I see that you've all come to greet us wearing your pajamas!" Which I consider not sarcastic, but insulting. I guess that he was a good stallion for breeding, but other than that, he was a complete ass.
@@SymphonyBrahms Oddly I sad that to an African bloke at work as he'd come in dressed up for a job interview and he thought it was funny. Probably not good craic for a diplomatic meeting though.
Rumor has it that he greeted Helmut Kohl after the reunification of Germany with "Guten Tag, Herr REICHSkanzler" (Kohl was Bundeskanzler, the last Reichskanzler was Hitler)
The little hand grab after Philip yells at the photographer could be interpreted two ways: Elizabeth being like please don’t yell in public it doesn’t look good OR I love you so much and thank you for getting it sorted
Prince Phillip was a legend. Affectionately nicknamed by us in England as ‘Phil the Greek’. Absolute national treasure and servant of this country. 🇬🇧🏴
I thought you were hoping for more children from me i am but then why on Earth would you do something like that to your hair. and because of that one liner the youngest Royal children exist well their kids anyway
What did prince Philip expect when he married Queen Elizabeth, I think he hated the fact that he couldn't rule over his wife who was queen like all the entitled male upper classes of the time.
@@garriumwhirwart5128 I kind of agree with you that he can have a toxic personality but you have to remember his family was exiled from greece and had a hard time with his mom put into an insane asylum and being raised by his nazi sisters. Despite this not being justifiable, the only reason he acts entitled was because he was vulnerable his whole life.
@@jonmunoz2772 True. I meant he wasn't asshole for wanting a job and wanted the role of 'provider' to his family, he had many virtues. By toxicity it was his toxic masculinity for which his wife and his first son felt unnecessary torture and hardships.
