I still can't believe The Crown left out the time Princess Anne was almost abducted. A man pointed a gun at her and she told him to bugger off. That's her most legendary moment.
If I recall correctly, they left it out because they had a contract for a certain number of episodes for each, and there just was not enough room to include everything, even something like the kidnapping.
as a matter of fact, she would've LOVED it there...but back then it was still 'boys only'. But both Zara and Peter attended Gordonstoun, Peter even being Head Boy.
The scene of her in the car, singing along to Bowie, thru to her reporting back to the family, was definitely one of the best scenes of the season! I wish they had covered more of Anne in the 70's. She did such amazing things (Olympic team, etc) for anyone, but especially a full time senior royal! She deserved atleast one episode devoted to her and her achievements.
I think we just got Andrew in 2 episodes and we never see Fergie just hear about her. We see Edward only ONCE and we've never seen Margaret's children Sarah and David at all. But ANNE steals every scene she's in.
Them asking the most laid back of them all to be “unemotional, rational and calm”, deserved that come back. “As opposed to what? The hysterical and neurotic way I normally behave?”
@@blucat016 yep, it couldn't have been any other brother, Edward never seemed to get into trouble (some things never change) and Andrew could do as he pleased with no repercussions for the most part (and some do)
Still can't believe they didn't put her epic kidnapping on screen. Dude shot her driver and put a gun to her face teliing her to get out of the car and she literally said "no thank you." During an interview afterwards, she was as cool as you please about the whole thing.
This was a great travesty for which I will never forgive the creator of this series. My only hope is that they have this actress back for a flashback for that scene in the next season.
@@graceclark3481 Anne was and is at times, very rude. Remember Xmas at Sandringham Church, when a silly old lady gave her a basket of flowers and she was very unkind to her. Also told Beatrice and Eugenia not to speak to the well-wishers there. Autocratic and self-opinionate. and like her father could be most unpleasant. Being royal they get away with it.
No way! shes annoying asf in the show.. her character the pne portraying her... her voice is worse than the looks 😅 who tf talks like that my goodness.
@@Jason.cbr1000rr yo what’s wrong with you? You commenting and insulting her voice and appearance. She doesn’t know you. She will never know you. So instead of obsessing over her while rakes in millions of pounds doing something with her life, you should do the same and GET A LIFE!
This goes to show the flaws in both of their characters. Diana *was* a little clingy even by normal standards, but Anne was trying to send a message to the Queen in that scene.
@@rrickarr Phillip produced a son like Charles who committed adultery and Andrew who hung around that degenerate Epstein. He was not a strong father who instilled values and morals into his children.
I met her once. She offered me a baked potato and a mug of tomato soup. I thanked her but had to decline due to insipient flatulence caused by an ill-advised breakfast pie. She said "not to worry, George will have it instead" (George was the chap repairing her faulty Kenwood magimix)
whaat is this a joke or real?? where did you meet her if it was real? that sounds pretty cool. sorry if i got r/whooshed i have no idea what kind of royal jokes there is out there
@@peachbooks3199 Anne has 400 royal engagements a year (which is a LOT) so she meets lots of people, and in general it's really common if you live in the UK to know someone who has seen or met a royal. I think I know more than fifteen who have, either from royal visits, getting birthday honours etc, or going to a garden party.
@@SymphonyBrahms yeah in fact Prince Edward is the only siblings who has a long lasting marriage 😅 but I really love Princess Anne. she has a bright personality
Criminally underused in Season 4... not that anything happened to the real Princess Anne in those days, just a marriage - as the first of the royal siblings -, a damn kidnapping attempt from the backseat of her car, individual winner of the European Eventing Championship at only *21* (+Britain's sports personality of the year), member of Britain's Olympic team in Montreal... I honestly could have done with a few less scenes about Charles + Diana's continuous drama in S4, and at least one or two more about the unique events concerning Princess Anne back then (of which a lot less viewers around the world are aware).
@@parikshitch1766 You're quoting Queen Mary. 😄 And after all the screen time given to the character of Princess Margaret, it only makes sense to me that an eventful life like that of Princess Anne would get - if not the same - more attention than it did in Season 4! But I guess that's a matter of opinion. 🤷🏻♀️
@@NiVi192 my bad, truly said Princess Margaret was given a way lot of screen time....and thanks to the media Prince Harry is getting a lot of coverage too so we can say yeah...princess anne was left out 😓
The annotations "that´s my daughter" are right on!!!!!!! Several times it was so hilarious to see how Prince Philip would chuckle when Princess Anne would throw a verbal punch!!!!!!
In my opinion Erin Doherty deserved an Emmy for her performance as Anne!! She may be Philip's favorite but she is my favorite actress to appear on The Crown along with Vanessa Kirby as Margaret!
@@louisafoster1640 I agree, Claire Foy was so gorgeous! She was my absolute favorite portraying the Queen. Claire managed to express a lot of different emotions by simply being silent, just looking… wonderful!
@@Sugarplum99 Totally agree Svetlana. Claire Foy was so watchable and brilliant! She certainly did Queenie justice, portraying her empathetic nature, so beautifully.
@@louisafoster1640That's a problem, when you consider the Queen herself stated she lacked empathy. She dabbed a dry eye at Aberfan, showing she felt nothing about what had happened.
it wouldn't have mattered. Boys came before girls until 2015. If Elizabeth had a younger brother instead of sister she would've never been Queen herself.
I’m not super knowledgeable about the accuracy in the writing of the character (reading up tho it’s a fascinating subject) but Erin Doherty is PHENOMENAL in her performance
Anne's daughter is one of the finest 3 Day Eventing riders in the world. Also, Anne refused titles for her children so they are fairly normal and Raising their children that way. Bad ass indeed.
i like how she's bluntly honest when it comes to her family confronting her and elizabeth being flabbergasted at how her daughter is so bold. literally the carbon copy of philip 😭
Sophie (his wife) actually got caught in a big scandal a few years ago, selling access to the queen 😬 and there’s been rumours that he’s actually gay… compared to his brothers though, he’s pretty tame lol
@@mattep74 ‘Often with him’? Are you kidding me? The press never follows those 2 anywhere. No pictures of their children. They are ghosts within the royal family. Why? Because for the longest time every one believed he was a homosexual.
I love her delivery, how it cuts through the chaff, the facade, the veneer, and strikes directly at the heart of it without even a hint of fanfare. Brilliance with a dash of stiff upper lip.
Princess Anne, aka HRH The Princess Royal, always was a bit of a rebel. She dated Andrew Parker Bowles, until Camilla Shand snatched him away... Anne married dashing, but cheating, Mark Phillips. She didn't want her two kids to be burdened with titles, so they grew up without royal duties... Anne got rid of her husband. Later she married a naval officer. Anne har always been known for being a rather frumpy dresser. She was more stylish in her youth. And for her directness. Just like her father. She works harder for "The Firm" than any of her brothers. She would actually make a far better next monarch than Charles...
@@ninaelsbethgustavsen2131 not necessarily. I dont think she'd want all that attention. she says so repeatedly she hates the media in the show. so, not a good idea
@@ninaelsbethgustavsen2131 Charles has also worked pretty hard, but since he had a Duchy of his own to run and several foundations to work at, it was less visibly royal than Anne, who had less responsibility. Still, Charles managed to turn the Duchy into a billion pound business and also did amazing work with the Prince's Trust.
she can even drive tanks (have a license) and i believe she always shoots bullseye as well with said tanks. on top of being an olympian, a charitable and overall good person, AND a badass. she's the most awesome royal. if only she's the next in line
She wasn't second after Charles. Her younger brothers Andrew and Edward were before her in the line of succession. Boys came before girls until 2015 when it changed. Elizabeth would never have been Queen if Margaret was a boy.
@@atras.do.armario I suppose as a kid she was second but what were the chances Charles wasn't going to have a family? Also look at the advances in medicine made during the 20th century. For hundreds of years yes it was very possible the first in line would die of something. Elizabeth herself lost an uncle to a childhood illness, The "Lost Prince John." he was probably autistic as well.
@@doody244 The succession act was actually changed in 2012 not in 2015. Prior to this sons were given preference over daughters. Now it is the firstborn regardless of gender.
It's strange how there is a clear difference to how Princess Margaret and Princess Anne are. Both are second born both people would have preferred to have been next in line yet the nuisances to their duty and responsibilities are night and day
Why would anyone have preferred Margaret to be next in line, instead of Elizabeth? Elizabeth is far better suited to the throne. Or did you mean Margaret as opposed to Charles? (If Elizabeth had had no children.)
Sorry, but I would have never preferred a party girl like Margaret to be in line for the throne, monarchy wouldnt have survived for one day if Margaret was queen as she had no sense of duty
My favorite scene was when she relayed to her mum how she told reporters to “Naff off!” Or more precisely “NYYYAAAFFFF OFF!” in that deliciously posh way of adding a “y” in front of vowels.
It's breath-taking how extraordinarily accurate the portrayal of Princess Anne is - particularly the voice. Erin Doherty clearly did her homework for this role. Incredible.
It was inevitable that Season 4 would focus on the Charles-Camilla-Diana drama-which was, don’t get me wrong, splendidly handled-but I wish we had more focus than we did on Princess Anne. She was the unsung hero of Seasons 3 & 4, and I loved every scene she was in.
Okay but her kissing Charles on the cheek, pausing, and then socking him in the gut is just peak sibling energy. Just...so good. I loved her character so much.
My Dad had met the Princess Royal on a couple of occasions, and he told me they had a cup of tea together at which point she scooped all the sugar out of the bottom of the cup and ate it with a tea spoon, very down to earth, apparently.
Why, whats so great about being rebellious?? What if we all were rebellious, what would happen to society? Why do people in west hate order but love chaos? The Queen was never rebellious, and yet she was great and iconic. There is nothing wrong to respect the rules
@@GodisMyNo1 Don't be so dramatic. Rebellious here is not used so literally, you pillock. It's in the context of fun and harmless. And don't be a racist. You dare generalizing the billions of western people by reading, or should I say, misinterpretating a one single comment from the person above you? Grow up
Very happy people are finally realizing the legend Anne is. She’s amazing and, I think, her not having to eventually take the throne gave her a confidence charles lacks.
Roasted? people knew before this show how King Charles the Third is! Sadly, if he abdicates, the crown will pass to his firstborn son. I do not know if Prince William will be a fine King
Princess anne : I got I wanted which was a bit of fun. sorry mummy ,it was .🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Queen (mindvoice) : Can't I have 1 normal child 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂was epic . The way anne exposed her brother camilla and her fun times with andrew 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 😂😂😂😂😂 and the moment queen realised that her daughter had some fun was 😂😂😂😂😂
Love it. I'm keeping this one in my favs. 💯 The more disdained they are, the more I enjoy it 😉 . She's clever and very straightforward, unarguabliy the favorite of Prince Philip and I believe she was depicted softer than how she is in real life.
The selection of scenes was superb, but the best thing, the very best thing about this video were the added thought bubbles. Bravo! They should make another version of The Crown with these added throughout. BTW, I play a drinking game while watching the series. Every “wut?!” requires a shot. And no matter what else happens, one must keep up with Margaret’s drinking.
