I have lived Diana's situation. Both Charles and Camilla were very calculating from the start. I imagine Charles felt forced to marry someone when Camilla was not accepted and probably looked for a girl in the aristocracy that would be complacent to his affair but could not find anyone so he picked a young naive girl who he knew would be accepted. He played Diana making her believe he cared when he really didn't. The men always tell you "she is just an old friend or ex but there is nothing but a friendship there" which is a blatant lie. Men in 3rd party situations only care about themselves and their needs, not that they are hurting you. They love bomb you making you truly believe they love you then say something mean and retreat. The truth is Charles was cheating on Diana from the start. Charles saying he didn't cheat until the marriage broke down was a lie. He met Camilla on a train in secret, days before the marriage. I think what makes people hate Camilla is because of the total deception to the point of making Diana unnerved mentally and emotionally. I can tell you from personal experience that when you are in a situation where you know something is off with the person your involved with but its all deception and lies it really unnerves you because you truly love the man but you start to realize something else is going on and he doesn't care about you. The man manipulates you to keep you controlled which does your head in mentally. Charles and Camilla could have been honest with Diana from the start but they weren't. But after awhile they made it pretty blatant being at the same parties. This must have been humiliating to Diana knowing she had to live a lie for years. Even more humiliating when he admitted it on air. It also must have did Diana's head in knowing he loved an older unattractive woman while Diana was at the height of her beauty. Anyway, Charles and Camilla played and deceived Diana in the worst way using her to secure future heirs etc then discarding her. Making her a Queen consort is a real slap in the face to the British people when Elizabeth's husband who was a real prince since birth wasn't even a King consort yet a mistress becomes a Queen consort. She will never be respected or loved as much as Diana was and never will be. Diana was a human who actually worked for a living at one time. She was also a natural born empath with a sense of fun and humor. Another reason I don't like Camilla is that she wore Diana's jewellery after she died which shows no respect at all. I would never wear a husbands dead ex wives jewelery out of decency. It goes to show you cant be born into class.

I don’t think Camilla is the main villain in this royal fiasco. Charles met and fell in love with Camilla when Diana wasn’t much more than a little girl. His father, uncle and grandmother told him she wasn’t suitable because her reputation was questionable. These powerful relatives then saw to it that he served his required military service necessitating a great distance be put between them. There were numerous speculations as to why Charles didn’t communicate his feelings to Camilla before leaving, but the clock can’t be turned back. When she married while he was still away,that closed the door to their relationship at that time. As I understand the story, it was Charles putting Diana in Camilla’s company more than Camilla forcing herself into Diana’s. Diana had an unfortunate upbringing devoid of proper parental involvement and guidance. When she met Charles, she still had a romantic, adolescent view of life. She thought her prince had come to save her. Charles’ friends tried to tell him this. Others, with a “louder voice” were telling him that he was getting older and needed to marry and provide an heir to the throne. At the time, I was captivated by Diana’s beauty, charm and charisma too; but I wondered if she wasn’t too sensitive to withstand conflicting demands from several directions not knowing whom to trust. I think that the family members advising Charles against Camilla had good intentions, but isn’t that what the “road to hell” is paved with? I suppose Camilla will always have to endure Diana’s ghost, but I don’t see why people should see it as what Camilla “deserves”. If Charles had been allowed to marry Camilla before he had met Diana,we wouldn’t be talking about a “ghost”. As my late husband would reply to me when I would confront him with a barrage of “if’s”, “. . . and if Grandma had balls, she’d be Grandpa!” As an American, I have no “dog in this fight”, but isn’t it time to forgive people for what can’t be undone and accept their monarchs?
