You can not own a property on Mustique w/o making it available for rental, at least that's the way it used to be. I ran into Mick, Jerry Hall with some of the kids, David Bowie at the medical clinic and Robert Plant on a walk-about on the island. Basil's Bar was the place to be and everyone was there! Those were some great times I must say. No one made a fuss about them at all, they/we knew better as it was a sanctuary.
Yep she has a new book out apparently, I saw her interview last week ….it’s on RU-vid…..she seems really cool not snobby at all having lived the life she lived …..apparently her husband beat the crap out of her on more than one occasion…..terrible, and she lost her son …
Our daughter was a guest in Mustique and she phoned home to say they had been swimming at Princess Margaret's pool (they'd been staying at Lord Litchfield's) and quipped "boy is her livingroom ever tacky" Out of the mouth of a 12 year old.
Princess Margaret knew just how to be royal and yet keep her private life away from the public. Harry should have learned from her on how to manage as a royal.
Not so. As the spare she had more freedom. Were she the heir she wouldn’t even have met Anthony Armstrong Jones or much of the other people she associated with.

When I worked in Israel as a chef for a Church of England Pilgrim's Hospice in Jaffa followed by the Hilton Tel-Aviv for a total of ten years, I wrote to Princess Margaret after she had scalded her feet and sent her some tiny shells I had gathered on the shores of the Sea of Galilee that I made into a bookmark, and I received a very gracious reply letter via her Lady-In-Waiting, as I was aware that many high-ranking royals had never been there. Her Late Royal Highness is no longer with us, but I still have that letter which I treasure.
Beautiful place! I went there in 2004 , on a private catamaran out of Bequia. We had to leave the island by 3 pm because there was going to be a " jump up" party , for Mick Jagger, at Basils.
She was patron of northern ballet I went to a preview of the new ballet “ dracula’ in Leeds she was late to arrive we all had to sit there and wait !! When she arrived no one stood for the national anthem we were all fed up of her !!! All through the ballet the police outriders sat outside with their bikes running !!! What a waste of!!! Time
How her friend Ann could say she wasn’t spoiled is beyond me when she expected Ann’s husband to pay for her mansion on the island after gifting her the land ! No wonder Ann’s late husband changed is Will at the last moment leaving everything to a friend !
Even in HER day ,she couldve walked at anytime . By the time her Sister was Queen ,she was NOT the spare . She was only second in line for 11 years of her life , 7 to 18 ,If we are to believe her issues stemmed from that ,then they were her own doing . Nobody told her she couldnt marry Townsend ,they told her what her circumstances would be if she did .SHE chose not too. That being said ,I truly believe she loved her sister ,and not because of what she wore on her head ,but a genuine sibling closeness. Her children turned out ,it seems perhaps the best of them ,down to her ,her husband ? I dont know. I do recall my very royalist Grandmother ,not an important lady in the scheme of things ,but a clever ,articulate woman ,pointing out that Margarets children were always with the Queen. Princess Margaret DID have her admirers . Hangers on though ,wealthy or otherwise ,most of them.

They carry on about how informal it all was when the Queen & Prince visited but I truly believe they would have enjoyed that cause it was different & they were in paradise !
There are family properties and a rather large fortune that provided income for the royal family as well as the public stipends. I should imagine Margaret must have inherited some private estates.
A very beautiful looking Princecess . It appears she mixed with the wrong people, (except for Lady Glenconner ), searching for some excitement and peace at the same time. It is a very sad thing, that she wasnt able to marry Peter Townsend. How sad she got caught up with that Tony Armstrong Jones.
How SAD is it that Princess Margaret gifted her wonderful BELOVED Mustique home to her son and 2 years after he sells it ... she dies . I believe it broke her heart that he couldn't love and treasure property that gave her so much happiness and freedom ... I can imagine how it made her feel as if he was rejecting her love by cutting off this place that was her real home , no doubt .
I'm sure their tax bill was way higher than most: they sold all her best jewels and bibelots, there was a lot of other furniture and other things, clothes, all inherited to be kept, sold and heavily taxed.
I’ve watched this before. As a child I thought Margaret was the most beautiful woman in the world. I still think so. I’m sure the Queen was jealous as I have read Prince Philip thought so too. She married that ghastly man Linley. Her life was so sad. Thank goodness she loved the island . Not sure if it made up for her first true love

Margaret and Harry seem to get loads of attention. Harry was the favorite royal until he decided to ignore the firm and leave and then thumb his nose at everyone who had previously protected him and covered up his mis-deeds.

She was beautiful, spoilt and a user. At least she had some happy times before she died in a lovely situation. Sure the sale by son hastened her eventual early death.
