Some campgrounds dictate a knife under 4 inches which is why I bought a Principle. It's small size plus being light makes it a good backpacking choice. The 420HC steel takes a fine edge while giving good rust resistance. Mine cuts into wood like a chisel, holds an edge for a reasonable amount of work, and hones to a very fine edge. Makes for a great backup knife or paired with a hatchet. I like mine.
I love the priciple. I bought a Terracraft when they dropped, and while it is good, the size difference and the saber grind instead of the scandi is a turn off for me, especially for bushcrafting. You can't beat this for the price and features.
@PoppaTownes The rubber is annoying. G10 like on the terracraft is perfect for almost everything. And honestly, I thought the same thing initially about the Principle's 420 until I needed to throw an edge on the S30V of the TC. That is no simple chore in the field. Maybe D2 or something, idk. Haven't had too many reasons to complain about the 420 so far. Edge has held up to most things, and it's a breeze to touch up.
The Gerber Strongarm I think is more of what your looking for. It has the same modular sheath with even more carry option, its bigger stronger , better grip, better angles. I have the strongarm and its great, but im looking at this for a edc which the strongarm is not.
My main user in the woods is my Casstrom No. 10. It's scandi grind would be the only fair comparison to the Principle. I've never used the Strongarm but it seems to be a popular one
Who really needs to baton any way?? I've never been in a forest where there is nicely cut logs randomly lying around. You are gonna find deadfall and it's all gonna be dry and mostly you use your boots to break it in fire pit size chunks anyway.
@@townes_ Sorry. Just RU-vid being RU-vid. I wasted about an hour writing a reply, which wouldn't go through and post. And then YT "Burped" and my post got barfed... I assumed that you were somehow watching, and banned me, so that It couldn't post. Happens when you drink and RU-vid without a license...
