Some footage of my PNC machining it's replacement motor mounts. These will be the 2nd to last major swap of plastic for aluminum once they are complete.
This is just the components that will mount the stepper motor and BK blocks, the main base piece was already machined, and the footage I had got corrupted.
However, this one does come with a fun workholding ( or lack thereof ) surprise at the end.
Dont worry, I was able to reload and reindex the part and get it cut to work fine, just a few marks to buff out......

A tip from a machinist here, try to do as much as you can be fore separating the 2 parts, cus the biggest part had a lot of leverage and that would have been way less if they were connected with like 0.079 (1 mm) in the middle. Either way, awesome video.

I'm very impressed that you didn't swear when that came loose! I'm pretty sure I would have.

Dang! Other than the workholding surprise, looks really good! These mounts are on my to-do list.

Thanks, going to try and record a bit of the process for putting them together and swapping them out for the plastic one. Luckily I was able to save the part, but I figure most people only show the good parts, I don't mind sharing the fails or mostly-fails.

Loved the video!!! Glad to read in comments you where able to save part. Another thumbs up for you and I even subscribed. Thank you so much for your time. Where did you get the plans to build table and electronics. The software you are using and components of your CNC Rougher table are basically a big mill. Great Job!!

Thanks! I think it was my last piece of stock too so glad I didn't have to scrap it. I just built the table and enclosure from scratch, electronics were based on some work provided by another individual in the wiki for the PrintNC.

Hey man, first off I want to thank you for sharing your videos with niche people like us. I never made one, or worked with one, but I am strongly considering making Print NC myself. I was worried if I make it huge, like 2 meters x 1.5 meters that it won't be sturdy enough to cut aluminum, as I want to try to work with both wood and aluminum. I see yours is quite big, so do you mind sharing the working area of your machine ?

Aïe'!! A 13'05, on voit la pièce qui bouge quand la fraise passe dans le coin à Gauche. Merci pour la video

Your welcome, thanks for checking it out. This was a clear indicator of needing to improve my work holding. Luckily I was able to save the part.

you could have done the entire toolpath with the 1/8 end mill.. less load on the part.. Good job either way

Could have, but then the part would have taken easily three times as long to cut. Got some projects in place to improve workholding to prevent any shifts in the future.

@@11megadevais77 Yeah, I totally get that. I haven't found an alternative that is any better that justifies the cost. Plus I can go straight from CAD to CAM, which is nice, and I find myself doing very often to make something simpler to machine. If you haven't tried it in a while, you might be surprised, it is a lot better since I initially dabbled in it a few years ago.
