Looking good. I built a PrintNC about 2 years ago...great machine. I too also gasped at mark 12:43, partly because I've done that and then spent the next 30 minutes cleaning and replacing the ball bearings lol.
Very interesting - I like the fact that the problems are shown cropping up and get solved, it gives a better idea thatn the wiki I'll watch more of your vids :) thanks
The blue'n'yellow finish reminds me of IKEA somehow... Other than that, super-interesting, and I'm glad you got your sound right compared to earlier episodes!
Your holes being incorrect size is only common because too many people think 3d printing is just buy an ender3 and press print. There's so much configuring, and maintenance to get excellent prints. So to that point, no, it's not normal. I tell my printers to print an object, and it's dimensionally on the money.
I'm going to assume that you're not telling the guy that has 17 printers and has had thousands of printers built & configured based on the documentation he's written, how to use a 3D printer. 🤣
@@f15sim Listen, I've been designing and building printers since the Mendel. Your print quality from what is apparent in your videos would indicate otherwise. You can be an asshole all you want, that doesn't change the fact that my OP was 100% correct.
@@8BitLife69 Of course the print quality was crap. I had neither the time nor the interest in making the parts pretty - they just needed to be serviceable. If basically telling you to not try to teach your Grandmother how to steal sheep is being an asshole, then so be it. I'll wear the banner with pride. 😂
You have to be very, very, careful when you cut the material to length. One thing to keep in mind is that only one face of the roller needs to be square - that's the end where the ball screw nut attaches. If it's not square, you can shim the ball screw nut to make up for it (if it's not too out of square), but I will warn you right now - do NOT spend any time shimming it until *after* you finish the X Axis Gantry Prep step. That bit me in the ass today after spending 45 minutes shimming and adjusting one of my Y rollers. Turns out that Tool #6A won't fit if the ball screw mount is attached to the Y roller. Words were said. Many of them of the four letter variety. I have some video I did today that covers some rather problematic differences between the wiki and reality, but I don't know when I'll publish it (if ever). One thing to note - when you're at the X Axis Gantry Assembly step, you only need ONE of the HGW20 carriages - the other one you need is attached to the X-Axis Roller Beam you previously assembled. The wiki doesn't show this at all - but the Fusion 360 model does. (the typical answer when complaining is to be gaslit, followed by "reference the Fusion 360 model!" which I've come to learn is code for, "our documentation sucks, so figure it out on your own.")
@@f15sim Thank you for the reply. This kind of (painful) learned lessons are what makes your videos super valuable for me and others. So I would appreciate it a lot if you are able publish the "words of the 4 letter kind" situations at some point. I have watched the last series video and I understand your time is limited, so I know this will not be a step by step guide anymore. Speaking of: thanks for the countless hours spend documenting the process for RU-vid! This will help me a lot in my build and that of many more!
@@mxd5273 I'm probably within a day's work of having the build mechanically complete. I'm planning on doing a "post-mortem" video at that point that will hopefully catch all the pain points I've hit. I've also been making notes in my printed copy of the wiki and I will update the wiki based on those notes if I can find the time. Thanks for the kind words!
