I was trying to figure out if they were either speaking really simple German or if my German studies are paying off because I could understand them very well.

My grandpa fought in the Korean War. He was the last one left alive after everyone of his friends and people he knew were KIA in his squadron and spent 2 weeks hiding in rice patties behind enemy lines until he was found roaming around covered head to toe in blood. The Korean war was psychotic

The heavy use of full-auto fire has been a serious problem in military action. Each soldier is not followed by a 2½ ton truckload of ammunition. The US armed forces modified their M16A1 assault rifles to M16A2 with an intermediate 3 shot burst selection. If I remember correctly to select full-auto requires pushing a stop button in to move the selector past 3 shot burst.

The Officer was right, at least as war was carried out on the Eastern Front. Neither side gave nor expected much mercy there. The private made a choice, he sided with the enemy. He appeared not to want to kill, but he did kill, and one of his own. I believe he wanted out of the war, not so much against the klling. If the situation were reversed, Soviet hunting German, I would feel the same way.

What is "weak minded" about refusing to kill an unarmed person? He obeyed the law of "civilized" warfare: Avoid killing and injuring noncombatants, non-military property like people's homes, hospitals.

He would be a Hauptsturmführer in the SS (Equivalent to Hauptmann), but his insignia is wrong. Not that of an officer.

Budget for this film was £500 total. We got costumes for about £50 at a hire company, we literally went in and said we'll take the closest thing you have. Also thanks, the two guys were excellent.

Thanks for comment, it's pretty good for 2 film school graduates who had no idea about history! We liked to think this conflict between 2 characters could be taken of ww2 setting and put in countless other scenarios, whether in history or a fictional world. The bullied kid who rises up to defeat the bully, that is sort of timeless.

@@mbfilmsuk You guys did great, don’t mind me...I’m a combat veteran myself with an eye for details esp about WWII, my favorite subject. I really enjoyed the conflict between these two; it illustrated the different mentality between the Wehrmacht and SS perfectly. A lot of American WWII enthusiasts (esp veterans themselves and especially if you add that to the fact that their grandfathers were WWII veterans who Told them stories like me), become pretty damn protective of the Wehrmacht , we think they’ve been give a raw deal and are often lumped In as ‘Nazi soldiers’ when in fact, my grandfather had nothing but the best things to say about them. They fought for Germany not for the Nazi party. Now the SS...my grandfather would tell me how they despised those dudes. They were batshit crazy. (The Waffen). One division that he called the ‘Baby Division’ gave him nightmares till the day he died. Researching, I’m guessing he was talking about the SS Division HitlerJugend. Indoctrinated child soldiers, brutal and fanatical and...very young and unproven in 1944, the first group of militarized boyscouts to be old enough to fight, and that’s what they did. That would be an interesting film...😀
