The director of this cartoon was Frank Tashlin (1913-1972) also directed several movies with Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope.

That was after he was in and out of directing cartoons. And you can tell too, because a lot of Tashlin cartoons have cheesecake shots of women that focus on their legs.

So when life's got me down and I wear a big frown, just goldbrick? These videos were full of useful information back in the day.

It was meant to teach soldiers to avoid ducking out of their duties, as doing so would leave them unable to properly prepare for the realities of war.

Take it from a former high school goldbrick, it just isn’t worth the consequences, also if you’re wondering I did complete high school but because of the economy at the time I didn’t get a job so I could get a diploma

So is goldbrick a common english / us term? Never heard it...
@julianhermanubis6800
@julianhermanubis6800 3 года назад
It was in the 1930s and 1940s, but it's not as commonly used now.

It's American slang; it comes from the swindle of painting a block of lead with gold paint and selling it to a gullible punter. The British term is 'swinging the lead'

At the start, why did the guy playing the bugle blow it right in Snafu's ear? Did he have some sort of grudge against Snafu or something? That seemed to be what drove Snafu to goof off which led to his death later on.
@ballasog
@ballasog 4 года назад
Probably a metaphor for how Snafu regarded any summons to work. Well really, it's what the viewer makes of it, but that's one reasonable way to look at it.
@girlgarde
@girlgarde 3 года назад
@@ballasog Yeah, this was likely from Snafu's point of view. In reality, the bugle guy likely was a good distance away but Snafu simply didn't want to get up so early to train in a rain storm......

@@girlgarde It's the stereotypical Army attitude towards buglers, especially when they're blowing reveille: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sysfeGUwGW4.html (the song is from WWI, but it is still true)

Well, considering how much of a screw-up he is, it's really not out of the realm of possibility that he'd be hated by everyone else in the Army.

Some of the characters(the black-colored bird thing singing along with the goldbrick fairy under that tree?) Looks similar to artwork by Dr Seuss/Theo Geisel.

Dr Seuss did work on these shorts and even wrote some of them (most notably the Spies short).
