there is a type of breakfast sausage where they put candied fruit, the kind you see in fruit cakes. it is actually really good. every butchershop in every town i have lived in has had it. a Bavarian place in colorado springs had it on the menu. that is probably what they are assuming is in those sausages.

We also had one with white variant called rara but its was tough to eat it raw as it had no tastless unlike waiwai and only came with powdered mix but it was nice when cooked.

My mum was diabetic and baked beans was on the list of approved foods as a healthy balanced meal. Obviously it depends on how much sugar is in the brand but most are pretty low in sugar. l often have Baked Beans on toast when l'm too sore or tired to cook. l especially like hot, buttery, crispy toast but, l see no reason for it not to be good with rice or pasta too, especially with cheese on top. When l was a child, if we'd been good, our mum would make us 'cowboy food' as a treat - Baked Beans with fried potatoes or toast and/or sausages on the side - it wasn't til l became a mum that l realised we'd been had, and it was just that she wanted a night off from cooking a 'proper' meal. 😊

I would definitely try the banana pizza. I think that it’s fine to bastardize pizza so long as you don’t pretend that it’s at all authentic. I enjoy barbecued chicken pizza, and that’s not at all Italian. Of course, tomatoes aren’t native to Italy . . . Great video as always!
@FabbrizioPlays
@FabbrizioPlays 7 месяцев назад
I disrespect authenticity to traditional italian recipes on principle at this point. Italian foodies will look at their own neighbor's cooking and call it a bastardization of tradition. No one can agree on what "authentic" actually is, but everyone seems overwhelmingly convinced they're right. So I make them all mad on purpose. If your nonna wants to come after me, I'll wear my spoon-shaped bruise with pride.

Some markers everyone including the pizza place is missing about banana on pizza; banana in savoury dishes is absolutely a thing. Gotta love thai spicy banana curry. But I do THINK (not know) they use "cooking bananas" so "plantain" instad of the usual banana. Banana on pizza should absolutely be fair game and knowing the flavour of cooked banana it should be a better match than pineapple or clementines

My vote goes to the venison tartare, diver scallops, caviar, and white chocolate. Not only does it sound absolutely, completely, and incredibly disgusting, but there's a real risk of food-born illness (beyond the obvious throwing it back up). Ramsay was brave to even try it.

@PhycoKrusk

I feel like a venison tartare could have potential. But I don't understand the white chocolate. Like, I can draw a line from the venison to the scallops and the caviar. It's not a very straight line, but I can draw it. White chocolate isn't even in the same book as those other ingredients, let alone on the same page. You can't just throw sweet and savory and expect it to work out; there's a dozen other characteristics from each ingredient to be considered when combining them. All else I can think of is that aliens have infiltrated our societies and are trying to destabilize us by mimicking the flavors of their Nana's casserole.

As a Swede I'm gonna have to stick up for banana pizza. Vincenzo also reviewed odd pizza combinations and had a reaction similar to yours when it came to our beloved banana pizza. Here is the thing... It almost always comes with curry. A generous amount of good quality yellow curry powder is sprinkled on top of the cheese. The curry mixes with the cheese as it melts, the oils and the tomato sauce, and creates a makeshift curry sauce in situ. The fruity sweetness of the bananas complements this curry very very well. Preferably you go with a protein that has some saltiness to it, like cured/smoked ham, salami or shrimp, to cut the sweetness back a bit. It is delicious, and the reactions of the people who tried it in the video are representative of when first timers try it - a pleasant surprise. It not just "not as bad as you thought", it's actually really really good. Most people familiar with the combination of sweetness with curry will understand, but most people who aren't will be suspicious before trying it. I also like a curry lamb stew with apples. When cooked the apples are sweet and soft and complement the curry very well. Same idea. Now, the banana curry pizza is the most common variation, but sometimes it comes without curry, a lot of the time with chicken and nuts on the pizza. That's a completely different beast, it's a pizza adaption of the flavor profile of a Swedish dish called Flygande Jacob ("Flying Jacob") that is truly odd, and I wouldn't expect people outside of Sweden to appreciate it. The banana/curry pizza however, is genius.

I wonder how crazy the chilli jam actually is in that recipe. I started using Gochujang lately and it's really sweet.
@annek7262
@annek7262 7 месяцев назад
I was thinking along the same lines. Depending on the gochujang brand, it can be really sweet. And there is sweet chili sauce (which is sugar and chilis, almost exclusively in some recipes). I do add both of those things to some of my rice dishes. (Gochujang especially, since I think it's delicious). The idea of chili jam makes me curious and if I liked it, I could see adding it to my exceedingly not traditional fried rice dishes (especially since I tend to make kimchi fried rice, and will, in fact, be making that for lunch today.)

I think its the combination as well, the chili jam, silken tofu, water, and precooked rice that adds to his dish
@OverAnalyst
@OverAnalyst 7 месяцев назад
@@ChefJamesMakinsonSilken alone is a sin there, just appalling. It'd be slimy, flavorless, all the worst of tofu. Now pressed x-firm tofu, sliced then seared to get a bit crispy, will add lovely texture & soak up all the flavor. (If a veg dish, bonus if you freeze & thaw it before pressing; creates mini-layers that give a "meatier" texture) Leave that silken stuff to be blended into dips/smoothies, cubed into miso soup, etc

@@ChefJamesMakinsonI can imagine it as a pizza dolce, basically a dessert pizza with banana & chocolate... Though I have to say one of the tastiest things I've ever eaten - and this was made by two actual born Italians btw - was what their pizzaria sold as 'pizza tropicana' and it was like hawaiian to the power of ten XD. Essentially a fruit pizza topped with pineapple, papaya, kiwi and banana (the latter used sparingly). And yes it had the standard savoury tomato base sauce and mozzarella and some thyme & oregano. And for some reason that went astonishingly well with the sweet fruit! Sometimes people get too uptight about the 'right' ingredients. It's only a culinary sin if it tastes like shit.

In defence of the banana pizza. Sweden's very long way away from where bananas are grown. So it was a very exotic fruit few really knew how to use back in the days before cheap mass air travel and ofcourse the internet. So back in those days a dish throwing all sorts of exotic ingredients together, to show off how worldly you were using these strange new arrivals, became the dish to serve at parties. Flygande jakob, a casserole type dish featuring not only banana but a whole host of exotic things like curry, rice, and peanuts. Together with more local stuff like chicken, cream and bacon. This dish is still a favourite amongst many who grew up with it as the number one party dish. The iconic swedish banana pizza, is basically that dish, on pizza. Chicken, curry, banana, and peanuts.

It's easier to say which was the least offensive... I can (mostly) understand how the gummy bears in bratwurst might work. The gummy candy adds gelatin and sugar, which would (hopefully) spread through the meat a bit as it cooks. I'm not saying it would be grand, but I can see the logic in that one. I might be even willing to try the banana pizza... but the rest? Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope. I'm so glad I haven't eaten breakfast yet. 🤣

At 9:29 she's missing a set of lashes! There was an episode of the '90's Nickelodeon cartoon, 'Doug', where they had to make a pizza for home ec/life skills class, and it became a 'disaster'- they dipped bananas in the pizza/pizza sauce and everyone on the episode liked it. Maybe Nickelodeon was ahead of its time on that one, or maybe they gave a nod to Sweden (how long has Sweden made that a thing?!)? Dylan Hollis is the guy who did the baked bean pizza- I love his videos. He made a cookbook with vintage recipes- not sure if that pizza was in the book though. He makes them, roasts them, and tries them so we don't have to. He's the hero we didn't know we needed.

@@GoodForYou4504apple pie was commonly cooked with cheese in it throughout England (not sure of the time period but definitely up to and during the Victorian era). They'd eat them like we eat potato chips and considered them a great snack. (No peanut butter and jelly though.) Then the old gal with the rotini, baked beans, and cheese is onto something: I think she's reinventing Cincinnati-style chili, which is pretty much a mixture of chili and spaghetti, and it's pretty good.

Fun fact James! I make a bean pizza like a lot and many in my community do it too. We have lent days for religious purposes so no meat or dairy (can’t even use oil sometimes) for weeks at a time. But my recipe is nothing like the one you saw. I make my own dough and I use refried beans with taco seasoning. Bake it then add a bunch of lettuce, tomato, pickled jalapeños, black olives, the works. It sounds weird but vegan food is a lot of work and can get messy. it’s so much easier and faster to get our carbs, protein and veggies in for the whole family.

Some of these are clever and shocking just due to bias - like the gummy bears. It is sugar and gelatin that would be part of some sausages anyway. Sugar dissolves in the wine as the gelatin turns back to liquid with the heat from final water treatment. So it sounds crazy, but really it is just different form than standard powder. Worst was for sure the last - wasting high end ingredients on a crazy meal.

Though Kay's version is not quite what I do, yes, I make something similar after a long day when I am tired & my creative ideas for dinner are dried up. I can up various organic beans for these sorts of nights to have on hand. I cook up a small finely chopped onion to translucent in a little lard until tender, add a clove or 2 of minced garlic, cooking the garlic for a minute & then adding a little cumin & red pepper. I then add a quart jar of my pintos or black beans, saving a little of the water from the jar to thin or adding some salsa to thin the beans as I mash them, depending on what I have on hand. Sometimes I throw in a chopped tomato or 3 from the garden. I turn the heat to low to let it thicken & get warm while I cook the pasta. After cooking the fusilli pasta & lifting it into a bowl, I stir the hot refries into the pasta & top with a (hand) shredded pepper jack or jack cheese. It is not baked. It may be fusilli pasta & bean abuse, but it is very good & quick to make.

Dried noodles eaten raw is a trademark of a brand here (Mamee Monster), though the noodles are thin & they season the noodles with the provided seasoning powder instead of PB&J.
