Kent, thank you for this explanation. This video helps demonstrate spread voicing which you cover very well in your book. I went back to that chapter and now it’s much clearer. Thanks again for staying committed to training us budding jazz musicians.

Fantastic as always Kent. May I suggest a tutorial on solo piano with rhythm (i.e. not ballads)? Perhaps similar to your arrangement of Change Partners (so, not dependent solely on walking bass or stride). I'd love to see that, as I find it quite a challenge. Thanks Kent, you're the best

That's a good suggestion....it's about jazz phrasing and getting a pulse from swinging a phrase and left hand rhythm. I made a video on playing with a pulse that might interest you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LknuoPMkAZ0.html

Brilliant! This is what I'm trying to learn these days. If I may, I'd like to make a suggestion. Could you do a tutorial/study on Eddie Higgins style ? I'm a recent fan of this most underrated piano jazz player.

He was great....and he did it all. I heard him live many times...I don't know why I don't have any of his recordings, It's a good request.

Kent, while this is advanced for me, I intellectually appreciate very much what you show here. HOWEVER... I am intrigued at how you move your fingers deep into the keyboard hitting fingers in between black keys where there is very little space and it looks like you are very deliberate at using a feel of the black key to guide more precisely where your fingers land. Am I correct? If so, could you elaborate on how important it is in your playing, when you use it, whether you strongly advise players to do the same. I was never shown this by my classical teacher when I was a kid. If this is a recurrent question, maybe a video on that subject could be interesting although clearly it seems outside of the type of material you teach generally.

Thanks for the comment and suggestion. It was my understanding that this technique for playing with the fingers higher on the white notes between and near the black notes was common, at least in jazz playing. It also is helpful for getting the feel of where the notes and chords are and execution as a tactile experience.
