Pro surfer Joao Chianca from Brazil wipes out at Backdoor while surfing in Hawaii. Glad to report he is in stable condition. Amazing work by the North Shore Lifeguards and fellow surfers gettin him to the beach safely.
Thanks mate good to know hes ok, that was a hell of a fall and wash. The dude whistling and life guards were doing the lords work would have been hard to get him in.
All the people whistling for life guards and them finding him and stabilizing his neck is all a miraculous feat. Prayers to him and his lifesaving rescuers.
I was saved by a random hawaiian local in a bad surfing accident i had no control over i was not going to make it and i gave up ill never forget that man he made sure i meade it home to my family
Yes, me too. Years ago bodysurfing in heavy surf at Whale Beach (Sydney) I was gone for all money, dragged out in the wash and a random surfer reached down and pulled me over his board. I stayed long enough to get my breath back and caught a wave in. I hung around and tried to catch the dude to thank him for saving my life but never saw him again. He was my angel, that's for sure. Take care out there friends.
@@deldridg it was my first time surfing, December on North shore, I'm from Ohio and wasn't familiar with how bad the waves could be that time of year at the beach I was at. The waves started out normal calm nice weather. Then it got a little more rough and we were out pretty far the waves started hitting around what id imagine was 10 ft and we were riding them on our knees trying to learn how to stand up slowly the current, waves, and our egos pulled us apart( a group of three of us) I was begining to feel timid so I was trying to make my way to a rock bed that I could then climb through to shore and wait for my friends I was making progress towards it, when I started feeling like a force pulling me back as I turned around I seen this massive wall of water and as I looked up I scaled it to be close to 30 feet I quickly got ready to jump on the surfboard even if on my knees to hope God would let me ride it instead of be crushed by this terrifying wave, but there was another plan, the wave grew so large I began to nearly see the sand protruding from the ocean floor and before i could even think i was crushed by the wave and i mean crushed it pinned me to the ground as the water crushed me and continued to flow above my head the only thing bringing me to the surface was the surfboard. When I finally got to the surface after what felt like more than 5 minutes went by I couldn't move I was weak from the beating but instinct was kicking in and I was treading water the best I could every inch I tried to move forward was sending me backwards from the current and waves were still crashing over me I was in the middle of accepting my certain death and praying for God to give my children a way to be at peace with this after I was gone when I seen the end of a big surf board in my face with a foot and man yelling grab it once I grabbed it I could feel his strength pulling us forward and that was the biggest feeling of relief the moment my life was in his hands I'd never felt safer. I do believe I offered all the money I had at the time he was just a local who knew tourists often make mistakes like I did and he didn't want to see a life lost so he dedicates his time to being a life guard. That's true selfless service
Last read he was awake and recovering okay. Scary sheet when worst case plays out. No jetskis around to save these guys. Old school surfers never had any backup..wild !!!
I got tossed at Sandy's like that once. I swam away just fine, few scratches and bruises thankfully. But when I surfaced, there were so many people already flying to come help. People are good.
I too went over the falls at sandys head first put my right arm in front now I can't throw over hand.it was go over or get swept into the rocks. 4 foot wave so not too far .I had a football player friend who did a face plant on a 3 ft wave luck he only had a bloody nose and a black eye.
I had a friend who was killed when his board hit the back of his head. He was an excellent surfer who had surfed around the world chasing his passion..
@@sukotu23Look up the physics of a wave it basically draws all of the water out to make a swell even on the smallest scale. And most big waves crash on shallow land. The biggest waves to ride are also most deadly. I'm not a surfer this is basic knowledge.
@@sukotu23 There is never a 100% or certainty when it comes to the ocean. This guy knows what he's doing, and even then the ocean did something unpredictable. You can see the lip kick up at the last second causing him to lose his footing.
@@AFx3144Waves in Brazil dont compare to Hawaii or Australia. Its why the big wave (hence the name) surf competitons dont take place in places like Brazil. Big waves=big lifeguards. Medium waves=mid lifeguards
Pipeline is dangerous. People here have our whole lives to remember it. I can think back to the harrowing moments in my older sons surfing adventures when he was younger. Surfers never stop to remember how mothers and sisters and aunties live their lives day by day hoping their husbands and sons survive their daily surfing adventures.
I saw some other footage as well. He was underwater for a long time. I think he got knocked out. Good thing everyone looks after each other for the most part out there. I hope he fully recovers, he wouldn’t be around if the people didn’t see it happen and pull him up.
what a w@ck @$$... eye-rolling... cheesy statement. There is no "brotherhood". Ever heard of "localism" or "Da Hui"? They don't give a F, and are disgustingly territorial.
Our waters are the most beautiful but can also be the most deadly. Watching this video makes me feel pride watching this kanaka helping the fallen surfer. They do this over and over again because you must give thanks to how powerful she is (The Ocean)😅
I had a similar experience years ago and I learned something, never wiped out like that. I always put my hands on my head and pull my knees to my chest until current slow down
the sea must be very shallow, the amount of water that fell on him was a very hard blow, I believe this may have made him pass out, I've seen people lose their lives or become quadriplegic in a situation like this. These waves very close to the beach are dangerous, I think he is young and lacks experience.
