Continuing work on my kitchen cabinets, I made a simple trim molding to cover the gap between the top of the upper cabinets and the drywall bulkhead above. I made this from the same hard maple that I used for the face frames of the cabinets and finished it with three coats of water based poly before installing it.
Here are some ways that you can help support the work I do in making these videos:

Masking tape, so simple but I bet a lot of us are feeling pretty stupid seeing it done - 20 years and I never thought of it. Good hack!

This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ru-vid.comUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seems to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

WoW John- love your work, voice, wisdom and careful instructions. Question about plex under plywood flooring (that you like)- do you have instructions/ recommendations/video on how you installed it? Looks like you used plywood sleepers around 5/8 or 3/8” plex? I am wanting to copycat you here in Lakeside- I’d love a response if you have time, but in any case thanks so much for your dedication!

Very informative and useful, John. I wish I had seen this before renovating my son's house. I spent more on ruined trim than if I had just hired it to be done. I have a bizarre question: I would like to use construction adhesive more in woodworking, but I'm terrible with a caulk gun. Would it be advisable to fill an empty glue bottle with the construction adhesive and use out of that?
@IBuildItHome
@IBuildItHome 6 лет назад
You can, but it will start hardening in the bottle, and not just the tip. I've squeezed some out into a sandwich bag and just cut the corner off, much like a cake decorator.

nice job on your cabinets! i really, really like the look of the trimmed cabinet doors! (5:05) btw, why was there a shadow above the cabinet trim you were installing? were you waiting until you had all the trim cut to length before pinning it flush to the ceiling or was it because the ceiling isn't perfectly flat (in which case you could fill in the gaps w/ caulk? just wondering. thanks for posting.

I hate using caulking guns!! I can never get it to shut off fast enough and it keeps oozing while I'm trying to spread the caulk I just applied.

Do you ever have to take something apart and regret using construction adhesive?
@IBuildItHome
@IBuildItHome 6 лет назад
I had to strip up a section of plywood floor that I laid a few years ago and the places where it was glued with this adhesive came up in splinters. The bond is much stronger than most people realize.

I Build It Home yes thats what i mean is that maybe you wanted to just change the dimensions of it but because it had adhesive its unsalvageable

I'd love you to show how you remove the pin nails and fill the holes. No idea how I'd do that without mangling the wood around.
@IBuildItHome
@IBuildItHome 6 лет назад
"And to hold this up there WHILE the glue dries..." Not "until", like you assumed with what you thought was your smart comment :)
@Vermoot
@Vermoot 6 лет назад
I really wasn't trying to be a smartass or anything, I'm genuinely wondering how you managed that. And with your reply I'm a bit more confused now. Do you remove the nails before the glue sets? Do you remove them at all? Genuinely interested, because you talk about filling the holes, making it so the nails/holes aren't visible
@IBuildItHome
@IBuildItHome 6 лет назад
Usually when someone talks about the nails and glue, they are being facetious, like the nails are pulled out after the glue dries. You don't pull the nails out - they stay in and the pin nailer sets them below the surface so there's only a hole left to fill.
@Vermoot
@Vermoot 6 лет назад
Ah yeah, I hadn't thought of that. I indeed thought you removed them in the end, and now I see how silly that was. Thanks for the answer!
