Are we supposed to believe that people called into the show from their homes? I didn't see a phone number and it's not like this show was live. Donahue was the Vince Mcmahon of talk show hosts.
1. Phil Donahue was one of the best talk show host of all time. 2. This show aired in 1992 20 years ago! (Your expecting today's clothing and hair styles)?
The kid at the end was the smartest one there. He realized that half the fucking nut bars up there had vendettas against McMahon for stuff that happened in the past. Classic.
@drvn8 It was on the radio in the early nineties on WSB 750AM in Atlanta. It was Wrestling with Jim Ross. Larry made it clear that he did work for Vince's father, but would never work for Vince. Larry did make his mark by hitting Bruno Sammartino with the chair at Shea Stadium. Now, when highlights of that card are shown, neither Bruno or Larry are mentioned. Larry had some good matches with Scott LeDoux in the AWA. LeDoux now has Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Well, Donahue really did try to be impartial. The questions the audience asked were absolutely ricockulous. The Donahue audience was not the right group of people to be having this in front of. I wanted to punch the lady in black right in the mouth for saying it was "sleazy". She clearly has no level of thinking beyond what the news tells her...same goes for the rest of the dullards throughout the crowd. Wrestling can be fake, art, beautiful or "sleazy" but to me it's absolutely spectacular.
If Phil was looking for ratings .. and this was 1992. Andre the Giant, Macho Man Randy Savage, The Undertaker, Hulk Hogan, and the Ultimate Warrior would've been on this program. The Phil Donahue Show, just like the company in the ad at the end, were not about ratings. That's why the Phil Donahue Show and WCW no longer exist.
If it is it's truly a shame...when they started their hall of fame Bruno should've been the first inductee, but I guess since he spoke out against Vince it won't happen.
On the shot that the audience member took at Bruno Sammartino's son, David: I heard that David was fired because he hit a fan and almost caused a riot at one of the arenas. It was a case of 'roid rage.
this is kinda before my time so I don't really know, but was all TV this good back then? It just has a certain realism and energy that is absent from any so called "live" talk show today.
Andre was probably sick, but the rest of the guys you mentioned were still working. Why would they agree to show up and risk their jobs for speaking the truth. Especially Hogan, who would more than likely get all kinds of pressure from the audience and from Graham regarding his drug use. I actually found this show rather interesting. I wish it was an hour long instead of 30 mins.
Yeah you have a point...anytime somebody like Pete rose or William "Refrigerator" Perry can be in a wrestling hall of fame when they're not even wrestlers does make it look like a joke
Pat Patterson is the godfather of Stephanie,Pat is also openly gay & Vince knew there was a problem but said it was just locker room horse play. Some wrestlers even say Vince is Bi sexual.
Its truley amazing that McMahon has survived the sex scandals, steroid abuse and the undeniable fact that wrestlers drop like flies ever year and through it all he still pulls in millions. If you wanna blame somebody blame yourselves. lmao
@jewggerz Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that Graham is the first asshole to get jacked up on steroids in this business. In every way, he's responsible for the trend in the 80s.
I wish I could be surprised at how many workable marks think, even twenty years later, that Vince was the innocent party in this scandal. Read ChokeHold, WWE Universe serfs ;)
i dont know if graham is being real but alot of old school guys bruno, albano, etc dont like vince jr. and they all have told the same stories about sexual harrassment, drugs, etc
@denzelsnipes69 that poor kid had been waiting the whole show with his hand up. Me! Me! I have an insightful question! Aw goddamnit high school all over again. Bruno should have taken his lunch money too.
@JonathanVonErich Sadly, for you, that doesn't matter; does Sammartino "having an agenda" mean that the sex abuse/sterioid abuse just 'doesn't matter'? Of course not.
Two funny things in this short 5 minute clip: 1) 4:13 "HOW MANY HOMOSEXUALS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD?! REPORT THAT TO US!" 2) This serious discussion about child molestation, child abuse, steroid use, illegal activities including drug use, exploitation of workers, etc., in the WWF and then at 4:53-WCW. Haha.
I always find shows very strange where one opinion (in this case McMahon) is set against like 6 others. I mean c'mon is this a talk show? Lets stay balanced.
@JamesRideout123 In this case, yes he was. To me everyone involved (with the acception of Barry IMO), all had an axe to grind. Like Bruno really pisses me off, saying VInce Sr. blackballed him? Vince Sr. made Bruno a lot of money! Murray Hodgson was exposed as a con-artist who had a rap-sheet. Even those who aren't there, like Billy Jack Haynes & Dr. D, are all bitter a-holes with an axe to grind. This is the one time I agree with VInce. But yes, other times he deserved certain scrutiny
Lets assume the allegations are true (I don't know either way, but they seem to have a good argument)-the employees r the victims here (both w/pressure to be bigger, give sexual favours, & keep their mouths shut) & they r getting reamed by the audience for keeping silent due to pressure. Interesting how times have changed: if you r a football coach who allegedly abused kids, that is OK (based on the support he received). The difference? Wresting is not respected in this country, football is.
seriously every single person had there say except the accused mcmahon and i refuse to think a man with 2 children allowed stuff to go down with young teens. TARDED.
