If you forget which way to wind the spanish windlass just try to remember "Righty tighty, lefty loosey"! You can thank me later by buying me a beer when you see me. No problem.
haha, oh no I tighten them so that the force twists it into the deck, and so they are self locking. if you did both sides the same way one would just come off. Though I have been meaning to add safety lines to tie them in place but didn't have suitable line handy.
