A scenic drive along the Mosel river to experience the BMW R1200GS K255 together, probably one of the best GS bikes ever built. Let me explain why in the video.
Hi from Texas. I Ride a 2006 R1200GS and Love it. I have never had a problem and have 42,000 Miles on it. It still Runs and Drives like new. They are so easy to work on, that I do all my own Maintenance. It still looks almost Brand New also. I have been Riding Motorcycles for 50 years now. I owned everything from Kawasaki to Hondas, Suzukis, and Harleys and Yamahas. The GS is the Best Bike I have ever had. I have 8 Fusions in my Neck and lower Back. The GS is the only one I can Ride and not hurt. It will probably be my last Bike, so I’m really happy the GS is it. Thanks for the Video, New Subscriber.😁👍👍
Greetings to Texas! Hope the fire in Amarillo will soon be under control. Thank you for your comments and lots of miles ans smiles on the road! If you come to Germany a bike is waiting for you. We live near Spangdahlem Airbase and my neighbour was an instructor from Texas. Enjoy the BMW and ride safely! 👍✌️😎
Bought my 2012 triple black R1200GS about two years ago. 15,000 miles later I love it more than ever, what an amazing bike. Just enough electronics without them getting in the way and so simple to maintain day to day.
K25 Aug 2011, in Australia. It's a GS rather than the GSA and I'm so happy. 1200 4 valve dohc with the ESA made for a beautiful motorcycle @ 61 years of age. :D
Thank you, just finished looking at The Tourist and some Australian countryside. Cannot imagine a greater scenery to ride. Enjoy!! I am turning 65 young man 👍😎
2007 GS 1200 70K trouble free miles. 40 year MX racer, thought these bikes were for the Starbucks crowd. Boy was I wrong. Unparalleled as a long distance touring bike, incredibly capable off- road with proper tires , skills, and discretion. Also, due to current used bike market, one of the best bargains for serious riders. No silly electronics ( ABS only. ABS is mandatory on this type of machine). Tons of torque. Smooth , refined , and sophisticated. The chassis is a dynamic masterpiece of stability and handling, especially in gnarly conditions. Front end vague off- road and low end lean bog makes it clunky at slow speeds in difficult terrain. But ADV is always about compromise.
Great comment, thanks for sharing. Yes, off-road esp wet is all about tires and weight as you know so well with your experience. It took me a while to buy my first boxer and some time to become a fan. Age and experience help 😅✌️. And I keep my Honda AT, NT and Transalp to rediscover the K255 every time. Enjoy many more safe miles!! 👍
Great video! Very instructive and interesting with all the information about the bike as well as the beautiful landscape and region you are touring in! Thank you and keep it up ☀️☀️
Ive got 09 r1200gs quite possibly thee best bike i have ever ridden love it and just folow sports bikes even blow them away on the twisties awesome machine nice video mate
Beautifully engineered. The last of the “quality” GS’s. Compelling sound and comfort ! Utterly excellent… but not the best GS! The power to weight of the R1300GS and the handling is in a different world. Let’s not tell lies !
😎 completely agree, the new 1300 is a great ‘race’ bike, price and performance in a different league. A lot and maybe even more technology than we need. The K25 has the beauty of simplicity and it slows down time. ✌️👍
Have lots of miles on 1150. 1200 is a completely different animal while keeping all of the tractor like qualities of the 1150. Freer revving engine with more power, better shifting, lighter clutch and throttle pull, etc. You'll love it.
@@glennstreeter3404 its is a very different animal than the 1150, mid range pull is mental. The huge difference is the comfort, its armchair like comfort, i always found the 1150 a bit cramped in the leg department especially after about 100 miles. It does still have the tractor like qualities of the 1150 which we all love so much 😁 well happy with it.
After one GS1100 5 gear and two gs1150 ADV I own a gs1200 adventure 2012 MY with, currently, 89.oookm. The only accessories are ABS and mechanically adjustable Ohlins suspension. I love this bike, it doesn't have the frame, the electronics, the gearbox of the new GS but the feeling of "unstoppable" is present the moment I get on the saddle.
Great description, unstoppable 👍 distinctive, huge gas tank, a real classic, thanks for sharing and lots of more miles!! Today is the presentation of the new GSA and R12GS. ✌️
Just got an 09 with 5,000k miles. Concerned about driveshaft lubrication. Is it necessary to lube the forward end of the driveshaft? I see videos servicing the rear splines but many skip the front. Is there any reason the front splines don’t require lubrication? Just wonder if I’m missing something. Thank you.
@@almccallie4314 5000 miles? There is no need to lubricate the camshaft. If the sealing is intact and no water or condensation occurs, the factory graphite should be all you will ever need. Especially with 5000 miles.
I just bought a 2012 1200GSA last week. Only 15,000 miles on it. It looks and rides like new. Now that I’ve seen your video, I’m even more pleased with my decision to buy it. Great video. Thanks
Oh boy. I’m embarrassed to say I’ve been through a lot of bikes. I went from Honda VTX 1800 to, 04 bmw 1200LT, to 08 bmw 1200GSA, to 2014 1200GSA, to 21 Yamaha T7, to 02 1150GSA, and now to my 2012 1200GSA. My wife thinks I may have a problem here.. 😂 It’s taken me 20+ years of riding to get here though. @@secondhandbiker
I agree, I own a second hand since 2010, now 270km. I changed the engine recently because it was my fault for not overhauled the engine on time. I love this bike. I did many international trips.
@@secondhandbiker I have lived a great deal of my childhood in that region, a bit further in Blankenheim, near Tondorf and Muhlheim. The sights are indeed gorgeous.
wonderful video. I buy lots of wine from this region and spent the night in Koblenz last year. Loved the city and the views by the rivers Mosel and Rein. I Had a 2005 BMW GS which I loved but sold about 7 years ago. Now I am looking at purchasing a GSA. Just not sure if I will get a newer model or just go back to the basics and buy a great 2006-2012 model.
Thanks for your comment. Plenty of choice indeed. I have the 1200 Adv LC and the 1250. The 1200adv LC is also a nice alternative. 13.000 vs 18.000 for the 1250. Have fun! 👍✌️😎
Its my favorite bike, this type you are riding. Currently riding a 2000 r1100rt wich is extremely reliable. But looking to the GSA1200 you are riding, because of the seating position for my knees. Had a 05 gs1200 in the past. I will never buy a GS1300 because of the ridiculous price and because it already had a couple of recalls. Oldskool is much better. As a neighbour I visit the Mosel region often because I like the area and it is nearby. Love that region.
Nederland of Belgie? Bedankt, ja ik heb de 1300 geprobeerd, erg goed maar onnodige techniek en erg duur. I love the GSA: K255 or the LC K50 1200. More than enough if you ask me. Great region👍 I love Zeeland also 😎 Have a great time✌️
I have been thinking about a shaft drive bike for touring, always thought Bmw were money pits bought by dentists but I'll consider your advice here, subbed.
First question to ask is: New or used. New Moto Guzzi Stelvio is a nice contender. Without shaft: Honda NT1100, excellent value for money! Enjoy the ride! 👍✌️
High mileage = 2010-2013 air/oil K25; Newer K51 look for sub 20.000 km. Small price difference but will take you far. In Germany K25 = 9000 Eur below 50k, K50 11.000€ for around 20K and 16.000€ for the 1250. And... buy the bike with full luggage = value 750 €. A good K25 > 2010 and adv version K255 would be my choice.
i have it too and used to have a lot bikes during the last 43 years... harley as well... I found out three weaknesses for the k25: changing clutch is a nighmare.. changing fuelfilter as well... or cleaning it- and third, the abs fluid, not the breaks but the abs. its below the tank ... but I drive to visit my mother from time to time and go 500 us miles (800km) across Germany and I enjoy each inch...
Spot on, those are the three challenges, bearing in mind that ABS is an issue until 2009, hence my preference for a 2010 onwards. New R12 gs and 1300 adv will be shown on July 5th, really interesting. Keep safe 👍✌️
Absolutely agree, I have one and later acquired a 1200GS LC and now a 1250GSA but the k25 is still my favorite, a smoth motor, solid, nice and powerful bike
Eddy , that was a nice ride with beautiful scenery. Is it possible to mount a fix camera…I was a little dizzy! 🤣🤣 I ride a GS 1250 in Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦 Thanks, ride safe! 😉🏍
Yes, thanks, I am still experimenting and have my i phone on my helmet to give a riders view. Tu parles le francais alors 👍 Spring is arriving, enjoy the 1250! Great bike! ✌️
Hello friend i have bought a bmw gsa 1200 2007 and then cause i will go to make a trip in madagascar with it maybe about 5000km distance in all i need some advice with what things like spare parts i have to brings with me? Which issue can get can you explain me how can i prepare me for this trip thank
Good trip! If you made. full service inluding brke fluid and if you have good tires I cannot imagine what you will need. The worst would probably be a tire leak. Enjoy and have a great time✌️👍
@eddysecondhandbiker I’m looking at a 2006 1200GSA. They said the ABS has been replaced already. When you squeeze the front brake and even when you actuate the rear brake, it makes a whining noise. Is this normal? One technician said this is just a brake servo functioning. Thanks
Yes this is normal this is the modulator.. Good maintenance, regular use, the more you drive, the better. Here from Wikipedia: From 2004, the BMW R 1200 GS was available with the optional extra Integral ABS from FTE automotive with brake booster (BKV). Design weaknesses led to a change of model and manufacturer.[4] From mid-August 2006, the BMW R 1200 GS was available with the optional extra Integral ABS from Continental Teves. As problems also became apparent with this ABS brake system, BMW initiated a recall in April 2008, officially described as a "technical conversion campaign", in which the brake lines on the ABS pressure modulator were to be replaced.[5] On May 5, 2010, the Federal Motor Transport Authority published information under the KBA reference number 2895 that this campaign would have to be repeated "with identical circumstances" from model year 2006-2009.[6]
I’m looking for something similar, but can’t find the K25 designation in Australia 🇦🇺. I’ve found a couple of 2012 R1200GS, but can’t see anything resembling a K25
Hi there, sorry for delay. K25 is the internal BMW code for the 1200 GS built until 2013, replaced by the K50. K255 is for the GSA replaced by K51 in 2013. So 2012 is spot on. Good luck! Ideally, the bike has been regularly serviced!
I am attaching my iphone 13 to the front of my helmet any use the cable earphones protected by cloth for the sound. I know, not optimal and yes, I have a Gopro I do not use because of sound recording. I need to buy the Gopro sound option.
I have this bike k25 /2007 mod . Very good motorcycle I don't have problems except .... gasoline sensor 100.000 klm replaced 2 times 😢 and expensive...
Yeah, my gearbox broke, my handgrip heating and abs pump broke too. mudhugger fell off. only 63 000 k. a 2008 gs, totally love my bike, if it is not broken. .
The biggest POS I ever had. In 2012 I bought my 11/2006 GS. It is lovely to ride (when it does not break down). I have had so many problems, 4 fuel pumps, fuel gauges, balancer seals, lots of tyre pressure sensors, ECU (yes, one ECU!!!), ignition switch, corrosion on engine and fuel cap, leaking front shock, I forget what else, all that before 45000km. The previous owner had the standard rear transmission bearing and ABS. Do not get me started about BMW company, very difficult for them to own issues. While I am at it, the fuel pump issues still not fixed after all the years, high pressure leak, not dangerous they said...and cigarettes do not cause cancer too???? I am sure I forget things but you get my drift. Just one more, they cannot (will not?) provide maintenance on spoke wheels, buy new ones!!!! With these details, BMW know who I am, care to comment????
So sorry to hear this, fuel pump is a recall issue and gauge is known to break down. Sum of issues you have is staggering, time to buy a Honda😅. Spoke wheels can only be serviced a specialists. Keep strong!! 😬👍✌️
To Rodriguez: if you do not know anything, better to keep your mouth shut. For your info, I have been taking VERY good care of my bikes for over 50 years, it is just that BMW R1200s are shit and the company does not care about customers. Just Google R1200 fuel pumps for example. Etc etc...
@@secondhandbiker I forgot to say also, try getting stuck in traffic, after about 20 minutes, it will overheat, the oil will get too hot and the cam chain tensioner s will give up, wonderful engine noise. This is why police bikes have a fan on the oil radiator (of course cannot fit on a GS!!!!) Yes, I am the same guy with the fuel pumps, gauge, ECU , spoke wheels, etc.
If my 1150GS (owned by me for 24 years) died this would be the only bike I'd consider. Had a 1200RT camhead so understand the motor and the LCs are just too much of everything; weight, complexity, price, etc.
Sorry but these bikes don't get 650 KM in ONE tank of Gas. What year is this bike?? I had a 2007 GSA and even with the larger tank they don't get 650 KM.
Same gas tank of 33 litres. I am referring to what the trip computer says. If you cruise at 80-90 kmh, fuel consumption drops to about 4.5 lt/100km. 7x4.5=31.5. = >700km range. Must be same on yours if you have the K 255 GSA. ✌️👍
@@secondhandbiker Sorry but the GS tank does not hold 33 Liters to start with. And the only way you will get 700 KM is if you're going downhill in Neutral. My GSA which has a larger gas tank than a GS got me around 275 miles at the most, that's 442 KM. Yes I drove faster than 90KM/H but still. You will not get 700 Kilometers out of a GS.
33 Liters it is in the 2010 GSA, same in 2007. Mine is a GSA like yours. The GS has 20 liters. Even at 5 liters consumtion > 600 should be easily possible.
@@AB-hx9hs Ive got the 2011 R1200GSA - it definitely has a 33 litre tank and i have done over 600Ks on a single tank multiple times - most i've done is nearer 650ks
@@warrenharrison5052 If 33 Liters equals 8.7 Gallons and 450 KM still equals 403 Miles then I am curious to know how fast you drive to get this. The best the 07 I had ever got was 36 miles to the Gallon, mostly freeway speed. 70-80 miles per hour. Maybe at 60 or 55 miles per hour you will get 400 KM, I don't know.
