None of them have a guitar going 0-0-0-0-0-0. The last one is chugging along the low string, but it's definitely doing some sort of 0-1-0-3 shit, which is definitely still stereotypical.
@@gummostump4217he's talking about "into garbage bags" and yeah technically it's not 0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 but it's close enough because it's hard to hear the note changes
@@liambredeche7yeah that’s why I personally don’t like slam. It’s not even the gutturals, it’s mostly down to it’s slow pace and also generally not as interesting guitar (as other metal genres.)
@@MortonCammari can see where you’re coming from, i have to be in a certain mood to listen to slam, most of the time i prefer more tech/prog stuff. rn opeth is an absolute fav of mine
@@user-ir9km5lj1epush moshing to slam sounds weird to me. The whole point of slam is groove and hardcore dancing lets you express the nasty grooves instead of running around aimlessly. With bands like peeing flesh snuffed on Sight and torture I think hardcore dancing is the new norm for slam. Even dying fetus is playing more hardcore shows now and it fits the vibe of their music better
I'm a metal head myself, and listen to a decent mix of metal sub-genres (I don't have a preference to sub-genres in metal, it's just whatever I'm feeling). I like slam, but I don't blame people for disliking slam, slam metal definitely isn't something to just jump into without much context.
Slam is awesome if you’re into more simple, slamming riffs instead of any real melody or harmony or anything, basically it’s good if you want heavy riffs and gross vocals, and either great or horrible drumming
Finding out the name of one of my favorite metal subgenres (honestly thought it was just an offshoot of death metal) and finding out that most people in the comments section (metalheads included) hate it. What a whirlwind of emotions. Need those wholesome metal twins to validate me 🥲
@@SewNegative what genre are they then? ask anyone and theyll say bogg is slam. Or, alternatively, give me bands you consider "slam". if sanguisugabogg isnt slam, maybe guttural slug is? they sound very similar, but some websites say one is slam while the other isnt.
@djackv5794 bogg is just regular death metal, crossover death if you wanna be pedantic. they have low n slow chuggy riffs but they're not really slam 🤷♂️
slam is moreso a flavor than a genre, the genre itself originates from one bit in suffocation's liege of inveracity, it's no real surprise a genre made to sound like one bit in one song gets a bit stale to listen to, it's pretty self explanatory why suffocation made the sound one bit in one song as opposed to *every song they ever made*, like slam bands do
@@Mine_CraftLP2hey man different strokes for different folks. i can’t stand country but clearly it tickles people’s taints ina good way so who are we to determine what others should like yfm? its just tunes, man.
Slam and bdm was 90s too just mainly modern bands that focus on more brutality atm but 90s bdm and slam had strong atmospheres and song structures too but yeah 90s always ruled
@@limon981 tf does nazi sounding mean? Something like grand belials key literally couldn't sound any more different than Something like reek of the unzen gas fumes
thank you for putting a name to this metal sub genre, i actually love it and have only heard one or two bands that fit the bill, and now i even have some recs! great!
I was SO confused because in my country, slam is a genre closer to rap than metal ah ah! It's so opposite, way calmer, strong and slow voice. Most known is Grand Corps Malade
You're talking about slam poetry which also exists in America. Slam Death Metal also exists in your country like the band Anaptosis (assuming you're French like the poet you referenced)
Music i will hold my breath to until i can safely vacate the vicinity. Causes mental distress. I recognize everyone has their thing. And screaming is very cathartic. But I'm sensitive to sounds.
as someone who had 800 db cloud by 100 gecs as their most listened to song one year, I actually found that kind of enjoyable lol and am also just realizing that that song might be considered slam
Here's how you have to listen to this: go get something to weld, get a waaaaay to crowded garage with 0 ventilation and cover your fingers I old oil and gasoline while you go off and weld the worst bootleg bs youve ever laod your eyes upon just to cut it open with an angle grinder in 2 mins the next morning. THEN you understand this music, when your heart palpatations and the compressing pain in your lungs matches the throat singing and the slow ass but also fast af drums.
As a big n Metal head (my favorite bands are Warning, Worm, Cataplexy, Cattle decapitation, GazettE) slam and gore subgenres i usually dont like as to ne they are usually souless and completely shock value (theres an occasional one i do like however)
The funny thing about this genre is the story that it allegedly started after the song Liege of veracity by the band Suffocation was released and people heard a specific part that was chugs and guttural vocals. And that one part in a song became a subgenre of metal.
What's bad is this is the only stuff my brother listens to and he makes everyone else listen to it, it'll be that with random talking parts like "DeAtH wIlL nOt WaIt >:3"
BRUH listening to slam as someone who doesn’t like metal is like watching the LOTR extended cut as someone who hates fantasy. That must have been painful.
imo slam riffs (what the genre is named after, they're those big breakdown bits) are really only good when sprinkled into the song for some texture, because they're really, REALLY boring as the main emphasis of a song. deathcore fans are wild as hell for this one
Devourment concieved in sewage is the best slam album. Its still slam metal, but has good production and sounds clean. Most slam sounds like it was recorded on a microwave in a toilet bowl
I love slam. But I will admit there really doesn’t seem to be a lot of good slam bands. Some good slams here and there, but usually I’m hearing them slammin slams from BDM.
