BIG SHOUT OUT TO CASCADE TRANS PART FOR PUTTING THIS ON RU-vid. I was killing myself trying to fix this issue but didn't realize that I didn't put it in the right groove and push it all the way in. Such an easy misstep.

Wish I would’ve seen this video a couple days ago. The groove should be self explanatory. If the shield is not in the right groove it will not sit flush. The wires being reversed though took me awhile to figure out because it was dark under the truck. Once I used a flashlight I could see that the locking tab was on the top of the borg warner part and flipped the wires over. It then went on easy enough. Transmission shifts great now. I also used the older transducer and harness from bd diesel to replace the plastic one

this worked, especially flipping the wire-harness over (which was my problem).

First time I done mine a couple of dodge forum guys insisted I wanted to install the upgraded Mopar solenoid. So that is what I installed with a rostra transducer (pressure sensor). And fast forward several months and my 46re wasn't wanting to shift and I wasn't wanting to spend a couple thousand just yet. So I dropped the pan and found the filter was restricted. Put on a new filter, cleaned the slime off the magnet and the pan and reinstalled it with 5 qts ATF+4. Much better but Monday morning it acted up again and it dawned on me if there was slime on the magnet the governor solenoid being magnetic would also be slimed. So I ordered the BW HD (hardly anyone suggests the Mopar compared to this one) solenoid and put on another pressure sensor, gasket, and my cork gasket that I've used 5 times had finally started showing signs of delamination so I installed the new cheap gasket that came with the new filter kit. I don't know yet because this transmission has a history of shifting perfect one day and then nothing is quite right the next and I've replaced the grounds and chased all the wiring so I'm just saying I don't know yet. But it sure shifted nicer in the low gears with the BW solenoid. Don't think it ever has shifted that nice in the lower. I've replaced the 3-4 accumulator spring, the 3-4 solenoid, and the Throttle cable..a mechanic installed this transmission about a year and a half ago and the TV cable was...it was broke at the top but still functional. But I was under it another time for something else and I noticed it wasn't quite right at the bottom. Anyway ordered a used good cable and installed it. I'd guess the TV cable had been half the problems all along. There's more to the story but I mean when you just compare the BW solenoid to the Mopar it's easy to see one's the Imperial and one's the Volare. So I hope I get something out of my little $60 and $100 recent gambles because I still am on the fence about what to do. Cut my losses and buy someone else's junk or get a donkey and a beechwood switch.

You all need to add accumulator spring on video might as well switch it out while your at it they are usually busted 50 percent of the time great video very informative . All the videos that are instructional should be as good as yours.Bravo!!!

Cascade, I think he is referring to the Pressure Solenoid plug. The plug I received was the opposite of the factory plug. If I remember correctly, the factory plug faced down towards the ground and the BORG/WARNER plug faced up. I tried to push it in the wrong way and could not figure out why it was not clipping in, I pulled it out and took a closer look and noticed they were reversed from one another.

omg im not crazy after all! i thought i fucked up or something with the connector. and now i know why i got the p1764 code! prolly dont have the solenoid pushed in correctly! ha! bro thanks for this video you probably just saved me hours and hours of troubleshooting

Thank you very much. This helped me to diagnose my problem. I didn’t seat the governor sensor properly. I was also worried about the connector 180 degrees from the original. Mine truck was stuck in 2 and would not shift. Thank you again.

I snapped it into the body before sliding the metal plate on. Assuming it seated fine, all seemed good. I guess we'll see, solved my check engine light tho

We have the code p0751 that's reoccurring. We replaced the solenoid twice and we replace the valve body checked all the connectors and wires but the code keeps coming back. Any suggestions?

It’s nearly impossible to mess this up. If you put the solenoid slot on the wrong one, the housing plate will not mate up flush when installing the bolts.

@Cascadetransparts i changed the solenoid, transducer, governor and the output sensor as well and now when the truck is running it shifts hard. I also noticed that when I step hard on the gas pedal it takes too long to respond.. Transmission has been fully rebuilt by the way...its a 2003 46RE.....

I have the 42re in a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 4 x 4 After driving it at 70 miles an hour for a little while it likes to fall out of overdrive. I'm thinking you're feeling I might be able to fix the problem and I also need a rear seal of the transmission to the transfer case

YOU JUST SAVED MY LIFE!!!! so I changed my solenoid and sensor then.....slipping in O.D. no codes WTF? hours of screwing around multiple calls with hours of technical conversations and speculations with 48re specialists........nothing then I'm kickin it in my pj s and youtube suggests this video which I only watch cause I'm bored and po'ed about my busted tranny!! pull the pan next morning and guess what? solenoid not snapped in properly wrong groove! thanks you saved my ass

HeLP. No check engine light on but getting 1762 code. Car battery was disconnected for some time, could that be why THAT code??

Probably going to be dropping my pan again soon. I'm not getting 3rd, 4th, or reverse. Fresh rebuilt 42re, and I used the Borg Warner solenoid.

Mine loses pressure and goes into neutral even though it was taken to a shop and they swapped out the gov sol. This is also a Autozone purchased transmission just installed I’ve gone through two of them dealing with the same problem

which plug are you referring to ? There is no way to install anything backwards. Did you clear any codes after the repair ? Was the transmission refilled correctly ? - should be running in Neutral when adding fluid please send further questions through our site

I replaced my solenoid 2 months ago. Now same issue. I don't remember a click. Is it possible the truck ran fine for 2 months and now it's not working right, for it to be a miss seated solenoid? Or should I bite the bullet and replace it?

Hi I have a dodge dakota with a 545rfe transmission. The problem is that it stalls when I put it in gear but it works in reverse. I changed the shift solenoid but it didn´t help. Is the torque converter lock up somehow any clues of what part it make it to fail.

If the plug is installed backwards and power has been applied is the pressure sensor now damaged ? Im still having 2nd gear limp mode.

My reverse light's don't come on. Is the reverse light's on the pack. There's nothing on the outside of the transmission

So I have a 42re trans, recently had issues with the it only going in 3rd gear. You could manually put it into 1st, then shift to 2nd but no change, then into 3rd and it would shift, but never go into 4th. I got advise to replace the solenoids so I ordered them and replaced them. See the photo. After finally finishing up and on my first test ride I noticed absolutely no change at all. Please help!

2001 dodge durango 5.9 4x4. Code for governor pressure solenoid changed it an pretty positive i did it right. Reset pcm. Didnt fix it still had the issue for 2 days. Then for a week it shifted fine through all gears now back to not wanting to come out of first gear unless i throw it in neutral then drive then it will shift right. Or if i let it rev to 5k rpm then let it drop to 2k or 1500 then it will shift up. Any one have this issue after new governor solenoid?????

I recently did the governor pressure sensor and solenoid and the rest of the components that go along with the kit, drive started working beautifully and wasnt hard shifting and shifted through all the gears smoothly as before it wouldnt go from 2nd to 3rd it would just high rev until I stopped accelerating, I never had a problem with reverse and it was working fine for a few weeks but has randomly stopped working all together, i have the pan dropped once again and was assuming the servo would be broken since its repeated often in the manual but the servo and its components looked in mint condition, although the actuator arm itself is extreamly loose but was loose even before when i first change the solenoid and sensor, I currently go to school at universal technical Institute and all the instructors ive asked are bafled and said thats a new one, i am sure the parts are seated properly because all 4 drive gears works smooth as can be even with reverse not working, could it be that im overlooking something when it comes installation or is there something wrong with the actuator, I haven't tightened the adjustment knob yet because one instructor said the plate is probaly broken but from the manuals ive read the actuator would be loose hanging down and not stay in its home position, it does spring back to home every time you push/pull it with your hand but it is very loose and what the instructor told me about the plate has me nervous to touch anything without digging for other advice first, the truck is a 98 1500 4x4 with the 46re, also both times ive dropped the pan the magnet had the average dust you would expect to see and nothing extreme or out of norm, please help!

I put a used 42re in my 99 grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 4.0 and have cleaned all connectors replaced speed sensor on top left side. Had a mechanic help me put it in also. Soon as we cracked it. She went strait to limp mode not shifting to 4th the hole 9 yards. Did the whole unplug the battery turn the key 3x has new filter. Everything else is working properly as I did a complete diagnostic list of possible problems and ran thew almost everything but it still comes on o/d off and trans temp over heat help me someone before I take 50pds of explosives and my supercell rem mag 7mm and site back watch the mf burn. What if I just pushed my solenoid in then slid my heat shield into place and tightened it down. Obviously I did something wrong because now it wont even go to second as to before it would switch to 2nd about 35mph

1999 dodge Durango 4x4. My issue is that it would not come out of first gear and go into second gear without you having to take your foot off the accelerator pedal. Every thing I've found pointed to this solution. Got the parts and installed them and didn't fix anything. Ran across this video and took everything apart again and I didn't plug the wire into the Borg part. Plugged it up and put everything together and still it did not help anything. Please help before I had to spend a ton on a new transmission

I was having same problem. As in not fixed after I fixed. So I bought the GM aftermarket upgrade for $200 off of eBay and I’m still having the same problem. So now what. Please I need a hero!!! Lol pulled pan 6 times now.

Replaced mine and now I have shift into low gear and manually shift for the transmission to work.

Would this be a possible 3/4 shift problem

Wouldn’t shift into 4th/OD then dropped the pan again to seat selonoid, clicked it in place and still same problem shifts from 1-2-3 but stays in 3rd

Hello ,I have a 2003 Dodge ran 2500 diesel , today I found time to change the governor solenoid whit Borg Warner 50185 , I also change the filter and oil . I pretty sure I installed it wright . I test the truck and at 20 miles per hour I heard winding noise , any idea , please let me know . I parked the truck immediately , any idea ? Thank You !
