You're a stitch! Love your videos. I am impressed by two things: 1. Your humility, making me believe you're a woodworking schlubb like me; 2. Your knowledge, making me know that you are a woodworker of superior skill. It's highly unlikely I will ever replicate your 2 table process, but the way you work through the problems is very useful information.

This really came at about just the right time. I have a standalone Rockler table that I love, but I just can't afford the floorspace anymore. I've been considering how to add it to my tablesaw extension, which measuerments tell me will take quite a bit of modification...I appreciate you doing much of the figuring for me!

I only recently subscribed and I'm glad I did as I'm getting loads of great info and tips. I like your presenting style over a lot of other US based RU-vid woodworkers as a lot of them remind me of some of the more over the top US ads I've had the misfortune to see! Your reference to throwing in a metric reference for your international viewers was a nice touch, but even though I qualify as an international viewer ( England ) I prefer to work with Imperial measurements. I've recently started helping my wifes much younger cousin to sort out and organise his workshop/garage and the look of puzzlement on his face when I measure something in inches as opposed to centi/millimetres is something to behold. It's taking a while, but he's slowly starting to realise that Imperial can be more accurate than metric, 32 seconds or 64 ths vs millimetres!

Have a similar project on deck where I'm tuning up a Grizzly G0652 I picked up used and adding the SawStop 16" Cast Iron router wing, Incra lift and VFD controlled 3hp router. I would say that the dual router set up is for a very specialized situation and a single is more than adequate. That is just my opinion, for what it is worth. I have enjoyed your video series and find your site most enjoyable to watch. lots of things to learn. I also am a big Rockler fan. Their products are very user friendly and useful. But the prices can be a bit much sometimes to justify when I ask the wife for some cash to spend on my wish list. To protest she gives me a honey do list for what she wants done. by the way those silicone mats are just the ticket for glue mess control.

That honey do list is my ticket to buy tools! I like those glue mats too. My shop is cramped. I have to use my table saw as a workbench as well. The glue mats help protect the saw top. I’ve also found that the mat resists epoxy and CA as well. The CA reacts with the surface of the mat hough.

Great video as always and love the humor. Regarding the Ready2Rout fence and router lift, have you had any issues/bugs with either one? And have you considered doing a follow up video on the Ready2Rout system? I have two routers on my saw as well (different brand) but one is on the left and the other is one the right. It works out great when setting up to make cabinet doors, etc. and needing two different bit set ups. And both of my tables face outward so I can stand either to the side or the end of the saw to rout material. Obviously you didn’t have a choice with the inboard unit. I am not criticizing... But I am curious why you chose to mount the outboard unit the same way as the inboard unit? Is it so you can feed materials in from the same side and save space? My two router tables feed from opposite sides and requires more room but the saw and right side table/router assembly are all on casters so I can move it if necessary. Thanks for your time and sorry for being so long winded. Ron
@StumpyNubs
@StumpyNubs 5 лет назад
Because my saw is so long and my shop is so narrow, it's more convenient to stand in front of the saw rather than on the ends. The Ready2Rout is a great system, but not worth the price, in my opinion. It would be if they would have made more apps, which they promised when I got mine. But they never did.

Same here. While the phenolic is like a rock, I went with cast iron. I wanted to avoid the sag. Humidity is a big issue in SE Texas. My table saw isn’t as large or as nice as Stumpy’s, it will only hold one router table. I don’t seem to have the need for two.

Just buy the cast iron tops made for table saws. I bought the general international one and installed on my jet pro shop no problem. Just drilled some holes in the fence system to line up to the mounting holes that came with the table. No sagging; ever.

I just bought a Triton router for the table saw. My extension is open cast iron in a x grid, OLDER Craftsman. I completely dismantled, new bearings in motor , arbor and a link belt. It runs true but I'm concerned about making a wing for the insert and router. The Incra LS fence is on back order and is the reason why I want the router on the saw. If you or anyone else has a suggestion or a link to a video that can help me. I will be grateful.

@StumpyNubs
@StumpyNubs 5 лет назад
2 layers of MDF will work if you have enough support beneath it. Your issue may be the top gets too thick and interferes with the access to your router controls. I would not make a solid wood top for a router table.

I’m curious why you put the T tracks on the left side rather than on the right (assuming you are looking at it from the front side of the saw). I have a single router table on my table saw, I use it from the end. Seems like you’d want the tracks to be closest to the end to use with guides. Any reason for your tracks being farthest from the end?
@StumpyNubs
@StumpyNubs 5 лет назад
I don't usually operate the router table standing on the end. I use it like I do the table saw, standing on the side and feeding the stock against the fence to my right. The miter slot is in the same position as it would be on the saw as well. You can see what I mean when I show how the fences go on at the end of the video.
@murphymmc

Try this little tip for your countersink: use the counter sink first, it will do a nice round shape. Sure, it has to remove a little more material, but the cut will be smoother without the chatter you get when they go all starry on you.
@nickhemmrich5512
@nickhemmrich5512 5 лет назад
murphymb if you run the countersink in reverse, it scrapes the hole instead of cutting. No chattering. This makes a much cleaner countersink if the pilot hole is already there.

Joshua Blair the old Rockler router lift did not have the lock. I had the same concern. Rockler has a new router lift that has a separate lock like the Jessem. It also has a “fast speed” (macro) adjustment as well as a “slow speed” (micro). The only gripe I have is that the inserts are aluminum and though you get one with the lift, you have.to buy the others separate. Something you have to price in when comparing with other brands that include the whole set. For me, I like the plastic ones better. If you are looking to do a “zero clearance”, it is kinder to do that with plastic as opposed to aluminum and they are cheaper to replace. A glass half full, half empty depending on how you look at it. Also, the aluminum inserts on the new Rockler lift pop in and out by way of a button on the lift unlike others that require a separate handle to twist the insert in and out.

I have a SawStop 3 phase Industrial 52". The wooden end tables on these saws are terrible. I had to return the first 2 because they were already warped. The third one was marginally better but has since warped. Why would such a great saw be fitted with such a cheap low quality end table? Who would use pine bracing? Why not at least pressed steel. Even the cheap Chinese saws have better end tables than this. I got no response from SawStop when I questioned the quality.

Why two router tables, especially in tandem? Being short I would have trouble using the center table. Lastly, doesn't the dust collection bin starve the router of air? And, I appreciated your humor through this as it gave me side "splinters"! Apparently you see life like I do, "life is too serious to be serious at all times".
@StumpyNubs

I explain why I use two at the end of the video. The dust collection bin doesn't starve the router because it's hooked to my dust collector, which pulls air down through the hole in the top of the table around the bit, and across the motor.
