Router Table/Lift Installation | DIY Blast Gates and Dust Control that Wont Choke your Router!

In this video I build a router table and dust collection box to install into the extension wing of my table saw.
I used a JessEm Rout-R-Lift II router lift with a Bosch 1617EVS 2.25 HP router in the new table.
The dust collection box has a fresh air inlet to provide dust-free air to the router for cooling. I'm hoping that this will increase the life of the router motor by preventing dust from being sucked in.
I use the CNC some in this video because along with traditional woodworking, I really enjoy digital fabrication. However, everything made in this video can easily be made with conventional woodworking tools.
As always, Thanks for watching.

Honestly best sponsor plug I’ve seen for woodworking vids, didn’t interrupt the content I’m here for with a long unrelated section, didn’t try to over hype the sponsor, and was quick and concise with simple info with no unnecessary fluff. Much appreciated

The ingenuity in this table is awesome! I really like the dryer vent to separate the clean air from the dirty air and the dust collection on/off switch. You have given me many ideas to use on my own lift when I get one.

Just installed a JessEm router lift and one of their new router motors. I have a work bench with removable trays down the center. I made the router table so it drops into the space of one of the trays. That way I can take out a tray, use the router then remove the router table and get the workbench back. For dust removal all I did was put a shop vacuum connection behind the fence. It is new to me, and I have only used it for a couple of days, but it seems to be working fine. Your work is really neat and a lot more elaborate than mine. I wish I had seen your video before I built my set up.

I have been watching videos like this for 3 days now, looking for (what I think) is the best router table setup and I think I just found it, with a few mods. I too use a CNC (Onefinity) and I know this will help a lot in the build. I really like your custom waste gate and fresh air intake. You are a master in the craft my friend. Grate videos. I’ve make similar blast gate when I 1st started. They work great for a month. But then dust build up get stuck in between and moisture expansions and contract. Causing gate to get stuck open or hard to open. I move over to the plastic blast gate cheap but won’t last long because of dust build up in between. Finally I change to the metal gates. Clean so easy on them and a lot better functional.

Nicely done! Yours is the first router dust collection box that I've seen that provides fresh air to the router. Something that I've been intending to do when I build mine, which will be "any day now..." I've become a big fan of the "safety" switches with the big red "OFF" paddle. It beats fumbling for a toggle switch when you really need to shut it off NOW.

That was a really top class professional job ,I'd love to be able to do exactly that, but in the first place I dont have all the tools to carry it out it would be the old fashioned way and would take me days to get to the end point and probably no nearly as well accomplished, it must be great to have all the high powered tools to create such a masterpiece as you have created it's the best I've seen I have been adding tools but a long way to go it's very costly so it will take some time before I get to whare you are ,but anyway amazing job thanks for sharing 👏👍

Very good, but me was focused on the range of tools you have, your shop is profitable if everything is on reach most woodworkers neglect this idea of other tools outside wood basics. However you can be making those router tables for sale to small woodshops it's a nice product you can patent and have impact on others.

0:10 That little nut pocket that holds the lock/unlock bolt on the underside. Mine stripped under very little use. VERY weak part IMO. It can't handle the stress of locking and unlocking. The aluminum wears and eventually the nut inside the pocket spins and it will no longer lock the lift in place.

Awesome build! I've ordered that same lifter, and will start installation next week. I'm a bit confused about your switches on the blast gates, though. Are they low voltage (maybe 24v) going to a contactor on your shop vac? Or is everything 110v? How many blast gates can you connect to the shop vac that way, and will you burn down the shop if you open more than one blast gate at a time ? Thanks!!!
@LastLegWoodworks
@LastLegWoodworks 3 года назад
Thanks! Haha,, no, no fire hazard. The switches at the blast gates are all 24VAC. They run on a doorbell transformer. I built a small panel box that uses this power supply www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009AXCCGS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to control this contactor www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X8Z255M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The contactor then sends power to a standard outlet that runs the vacuum. The gate switches are all daisy chain wired in parallel so if any single gate, or more than one gate are opened, the outlet is hot and will stay hot until all gates are closed. Hope that helps.. let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck and enjoy you router lift. I love mine.

Great Video!!!! What are the dimensions of your table top, and what radius did you use in Easel to cutout for the plate. I have the lift coming this week and have to cut out the top for it. The manual says 3/4 but your video looks like 7/8. Yours fits very nicely!!!!

Thanks! The manual is correct. I checked my Easel settings and the corners are .75 Thanks for watching the video! Enjoy the new lift! I’m loving this one.

Sorry for the delay. My router table is 27 X 16 not counting the table saw bed that it’s connected to.

Wonderful build and video. Did you consider a router fence and T-tracks? You're probably talented enough not to need them.

Thanks! Yes, I may add those at some point. I have a chunk of T-Track so maybe soon! thanks a lot!

Are you happy with that router lift?
@LastLegWoodworks
@LastLegWoodworks 3 года назад
Yes, very. It’s really well-made and works flawlessly. The only thing I would add is a high-speed wheel for raising in lowering, but that’s on the next model up I think. It’s really not an issue at all, more of a luxury.

Since I have the same router lift, I’m assuming that you would be thrilled to duplicate this setup, ship it to me, and then come install it, so you can prove that it works really well. Just let me know when you’re ready to begin. 😇

I did "do it myself" This could easily be done with fewer tools. I have a problem, I admit it.
