Problems with RAM Uconnect 8.4AN 17.11.07 Update - Fixed 

In my 2014 (Canada) after my last warranty inspection, I experienced a washed out back up camera. After they insisted I drive ( 3 hour round trip) besides replacing a perfectly good BU-camera they did nothing for me. Even after I insisted it wasn't the camera as the issue only happened after they updated my software. Pretty sure that is the definition of engineered obsolescence. The available factory reset in the main system menu was blurred out, however your Engineering system hack worked great. Thank you for saving me another 3 hour trip and hundreds of dollars in expenses and lost wages!!! Got the SRT Screen after a short delay once resetting and then a black screen. Whole procedure took only take five minutes in total.

I own a 2014 RAM Laramie (In Ontario, Canada) with the same Radio Ver 8.4AN and recently updated the Uconnect Software from Ver14.25.5 to the most recent Ver17.11.07 and ended up with the same problem as you had, which was a very washed out / fuzzy screen (picture) when the vehicle was in reverse. I followed your instructions and performed the Factory Reset and everything is good now, the washed out picture cleared right up.The only difference is that I don't have the Fuel prices, Weather etc that you have, got a feeling that is only available on the US Vehicles, and not on the Canadian Vehicles.Just an FYI ... I performed the Factory Reset using both methods, and either one of them work just fine.Once again, thank you for your help!Thanks, NeilPS ... now I'll go ahead and order the Upgraded Map.

Thank You!!! Countless hours and phone calls to uconnect, the dealership and (eventually) RU-vid and my back up camera is finally restored! I have been waiting Over 2 Years for the "professionals" to figure out why my back up camera was all washed out and useless after that update... I don't have the dual climate control like you, so I was a little bit skeptical but it worked and was Amazingly simple! Everything came back to life within 15 minutes... IT WORKED! Thank You!

This helped me alot with my update my back up camera was washed out as well , luckily I had to factory reset like yours my truck didn't come with a nav system but it was basically the same cleared my back up camera took about 10 min to go back to normal after the factory reset... 2014 ram 1500 crew cab big horn v6 gas 4x4 8gear transmission

I used your last video to help with the 17.11 update and the last few months I got the blue screen twice over the pass few months well today the back-up cam took a crap and all I got was blue screen so I took a chance calling U-connect and they were no help they told me to go to the dealer so I called them and they quoted me about a hour to load the update and it wasn't going to be covered This brought me back to you! I watched you load it to a flash drive and I fallowed your instructions and now I have the 17.43 update and the back-up cam is working perfectly! Thank you so much for all your videos.

Good video. Just an FYI - the travel link section was always there - the update did make it easier to get to. The fuel price tab is actually pretty accurate, the only issue is with diesel. For some reason if a station carries E85 fuel it lists it as diesel fuel pricing. Keep the videos coming.

Turned my truck on an hour later and the volume is back to normal . Everything is good.

I just updated a Uconnect 8.4AN of a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2014 and notice the same problem as you (washed out image of the back camera). I will reset the system tomorrow (I did it before when I bought the SUV, and a couple of Uconnect firmwares before this one.) The Uconnect system acted weird after the factory reset when started to re-learn in what vehicle was mounted, but in the end it got fixed by itself. Thank you for your video.

Oops. My mistake. I thought it was MSNBC. OK, we’re on the same page. Anyway, I like you and your videos. Very helpful. I also have the issue with my backup camera but only sometimes. Weird huh? Since it only does it every now and then I decided to live with it rather than screwing up something on my truck. I do enjoy my RAM though. Pulling my 40’ 5th wheel is no problem. BTW: I just had it deleted. WOW, what difference! The power is unreal. Like a new and different truck. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

Yes, thanks. There is a recall on the tale gate which causes intermittent problems with the backup camera. Don't know if you got a notice. Mine did went squirrely once also. Some say try open and closing it when that happens. It's likely the connection if it goes and comes.

Did going back to default settings delete your update?

Thanks for sharing - I have not had this issue in my 2017 RAM 2500. As for the engineering menu, I've been in it but on my wife's Jeep when adding her navigation. Either way - I enjoy your videos...very helpful thanks!

Did going to the Reset to factory default set it back to your original version for 2014? If you mentioned that I apologize now. I activated my UConnect in July 2017, and haven't seen any notices for an update so far. 2017 Ram 2500 ~ Thanks for posting your hard earned knowledge. Sometimes it is risky pushing these buttons.

Blue tooth and Sirius radio wouldn't work. Followed Marion's instructions and everything works great. I ended up withe the SRT on my radio face as well. Took about an hour to sync. The dealer told me my radio was toast and I needed a new system..

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 with a 8.4 Uconnect radio and mine says it has 18.13.07 Sometimes the silly thing takes 5 mins for it to boot. So at times it has no backup camera the air does not work and the Navigation always shows me in the same spot and the compass just goes in circles. Anyone else have this problem and i wonder if I did a reset if it would help me?

Can't wait for you to get the Navigation update to see if it's worth doing. I don't use mine that much as my phone is 10 times better in details. Seems the Ram system is too rudimentary.

hope when I need a new truck, they'll still make a basic model with NO screen, no info-tainment center, no stop/start engine control, no sensors for parking, etc. just a lot of stuff I don;t need and less to break.

Sirius XM is sending over the air updates. 2017 and 2018 Ram truck and maybe other vehicles. This update shuts your screen off. It turns it on and off, and for some reason uses your battery in excess. You are locked out even when the screen is on. You can only contact Sirius, it will not allow you to contact uconnect. So after being asked if I want to buy a subscription service, and blocking the rest of screen you get a full run around. Sirius XM says not their fault call connect. So today Sirius so nicely connected me with u connect. Then a run around as if they had no idea. When you look up and call uconnect they have a message about the problem and direct you to their website for update instructions. But no my truck needs no updates. So it's a strong arm over the air shut down of my screen to force me to buy a subscription to Sirius. So if anyone else has this BS going on I would like to know, or if anyone has a solution. Otherwise I am filing a FCC COMPLAINT.

hi just a quick question I have a 2018 dodge ram with the 8.4 have you had trouble with the screen delaminating

My camera went from squiggly to distorted view and colors, then black screen, then green screen, back to black, back to distorted and so on. I pulled the cover off and pushed and pulled the connectors and the view is more vibrant than original. Maybe this is something that needs to be done periodically.

I just wish this update would have made the radio compatible with Android Auto. I don't want to have to buy a 2018 truck to get that feature.

Just had a crazy time with my 2015 Ram 3500 diesel. The radio was working until Friday night, away from home. Drove the truck Saturday evening and the radio says it needs to schedule an update with key off and not running. So I did. Radio on dash says "radio locked" Then Sunday - still a mess. Drove 2 hours home with nothing but my wife. Monday morning and still nothing. Tried the two button reset - no good. I guess I was able to set the update schedule for 10 minutes later. Went back after an hour and radio was good. Said it was still updating nav system. Very strange and I needed my Omeprazole as I was fearing a trip to the Stealership with an easy 3 figure bill. (can it ever be less?)

My 2017 ram 1500 has the same issue. They have replaced the camera all the wiring next they said they will replaced the radio. I used to be able to open and shut the tailgate and it would fix the issue. But now nothing works. I will try this. Thanks

2014 ram sport here same issue after the same update !!! I’m still under warranty and the only thing the did they change the camera that shows a bit more washed. Image !!! Go figure!!! So I guess the dealers know about it they just don’t know how to fix it !!!

Disconnect the battery, reconnect and strange screen came up. Waited 30 minutes, started truck, all okay! Go figure!

Pressing and Holding the vol-tune buttons for 5 seconds reboots it, but it never holds the settings. The screen just freezes...sometimes for a while or until rebooted again or goes back to "normal" by itself. Dealer no help "shrug..dunno, no updates available and no TSB, so..sorry, call Chrysler." Marion dumb question my wife's journey has uconnect its issues is with connecting to Bluetooth devices even new devices even after we delete them and do it again then other issue is camera will sometimes not even display do I perform the same thing for it

I am curious how did you find out about the up and down arrow enabling a RESET? That is so cool but I am afraid to do it on my newly acquired 2017 Jeep Cherokee. My system is currently using Version 16.51.18 Nav Server 9.10.32.679189 and I just have the car a month so I don't know what this all means yet. I am just very disappointed that I cannot use apple CarPlay and access google maps and phone features for text.

Marion I got a radio from a 2014 ram and had it updated at the dealer today to the latest software and I have no controls Icon or screen whatsoever to access my backup camera. The dealer added my vin to the radio and removed the vin from the radio that the truck came from in order to update it but I can't seem to find anyone at ram care or uconnect to explain to me why I have no controls icon

My navigation quit working after that last over the air update. I had my truck-2014 Ram 1500 Laramie- at the dealer yesterday for two recalls, and asked about the infotainment unit not turning on at times for ten to fifteen minutes. They put a laptop on the truck and could see that there were numerous hard fails of the unit. I said would a map update ($150.00) be worth it to see if gets resolved and they said no, just replace the unit. well, at $1500.00, I won't be doing that. Would you or anyone else know if the factory reset would resolve this issue?Thank you.

How did you get the navigation icon back on?

When I go to system information, it doesn't show me any of those options. Is there a way to unlock it?

So I have a question about the NAV? being that all smart phones have Navigation and Bluetooth now do you think its worth purchasing the Navigation software for my 2013 8.4 U-connect system or should I just keep using my smartphone and save the money.

Don't know why these car manufacturers can not get Bluetooth phone and audio problems worked out! I mean is it really that hard!? And you're going to need an act of God to get this to work if you're like me, an Android as my personal phone and iPhone as a work phone! This setup will confuse the shit out of Uconnect!

2017 RAM 1500 NIGHT EDITION. 23,481 miles. "DEALERSHIP WANTS $200.00 TO UPDATE THE RADIO." Not too trusting of the dealer...do they mean the radio or UConnect? They didn't seem too confident and a lot of "not sures". Uconnect says I have two updates (iPhone car play and nav). Dealer says they have 2 updates only they can do. U Connect website says I have one update. Uconnect_VP4,18.45.01-My13-17 I was told we have 3 separate sub systems (U Connect, Maps, and GPS). Dealer said to update the radio 1st, then U Connect then do the maps. They are charging $200 for what they call a Radio update. UConnect said that maps will be updated in July for the 2022 version. The current NAV system won't even find my home that was built in 1960. The version in the truck now is 18.45.01. Version code should change if the dealer actually does the update successfully, correct? Wi-Fi hot spot icon in the truck says" no active subscription. Go to store to "renew". UStore icon just sits and doesn't connect. When you go to the Ustore through the settings it says, "service not available". Any ideas? I hate to spend $200.00 at the dealer when they are not doing any work. What is my order of operation? (1) Radio update, then (2) UConnect update then (3) MAPS update? Can I get the truck to be a wi-fi hotspot? What subscription is this? What turns on the 3G icon on the APP icon? or is this not ever available? What will be the differences once I get all the upgrades done? I'm hoping the navigation will be somewhat useful. It's complete garbage in its current state. I figure I will do the MAPS upgrade when it comes out in July. Dealer and UConnect say I need the most recent versions to get the new Maps upgrade.
