Nice, would like to see your comments concerning the arming sword in gaming as well.

I sort of discussed that subject in the video linked here but I do plan to discuss the subject of both the Arming Sword and the Fiail in future videos. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dk0RaxFLnCc.htmlsi=0CD9shXC2TpRJNNp

Messers and Falchions had similar blade shapes, but how they were tanged is the distinction. The hunting sword in Kingdom Come is very much a knobbed messer with a knuckle guard.

The Decorated hunting sword and the Noble's hunting sword are both Knobbed Messers with a knuckle guard. So the Hunting swords in KCD has a few different weapons that are a different design but similar and are from different places of origin. The Messer is German origin and the Falchion is French. The Seax is also within hunting swords of KCD but that is also German but from a much eariler time period than the Falchion or the Messer.

I think the person who established the original D&D fashion standards had just watched Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the lost Ark

Most medieval *EUROPEAN* single-edged swords are considered falchions, one- *or* two-handed. Knife-hilted swords are excluded and called messers. Scimitars are non-European single-edged swords, typically near-eastern. They are believed to be a possible inspiration, but they're also typically more heavily curved.

I'm personally not familiar with two handed Falchions, but I know of the Kriegsmesser is kind of looks like a two handed Falchion but there is differences in the blade construction.

@@MightyBjorn It's in the tang and hilt. Messers have two scales (ie. The left and right halves of the grip) pinned/riveted through the tang like a knife instead of like a normal sword (usually held on a full tang with a pommel in medieval Europe).

this has pissed me off for years, that and longswords which are arming swords, and longswords are light 2-handers and should do the same dmg as a bastard sword
