I sang with Greenwood Singers for this concert. It was an honor and a thrill to perform with Procol Harum. Gary Brooker, the band, the symphony and the choir all had a great time.
There is not a single person in the world, today or ever, who could perform this song better than Gary Brooker. It’s as if the universe found him and the song and brought them together for posterity.
I just got reaquainted with Procol Harum after a 50 year hiatus. I'm just now discovering some of their hidden gems: "A Salty Dog" is absolutely stunning musically and lyrically.
Thats how you do a concert !...has to be one of the best ever "modern era" vocalists...watch the 2006 live performance on here with the DNCO...his voice was even better if you can believe it, 62 years old at that one and better than ever...R.I.P Gary Brooker CBE
One of the greatest composers and writers of the 19 century...God bless Gary ..thanks for all your time and music. ..we are looking to our Souls ..peace brother .
You probably mean the 20th century… nevertheless, he wrote good stuff in the 21st century! I was lucky to see them live in Stuttgart in 2018. RIP Mr Broker!
Oh my gosh how wonderful is this. Tommy Banks was Edmontons jewel. Procal Haram sound fantastic and we were so honored the first time, and they returned. Edmonton Symphony Orchestra the best! Thank you!
I was still in the US Army when this magnificent concert happened and knew nothing about it. I'm just discovering it now. But it's OK in fact it makes it all the more sweeter and I'm grateful that it was recorded and filmed, especially now that Gary has passed away. I met him at the Paler's Party in Denmark in 2006. I wasn't interested in an autograph or photo. I just wanted to thank him for all the great music over the years. He couldn't have been nicer to me.
A wonderful experience and a kind of "deja vu", as someone said before the concert. Excellent form of the entire group, wonderful orchestra with choir and conductor. Great audience. To be there is to commune with the highest of arts.
OMG- where has our music gone? All of these songs were written in the 60's to be re-imagined in the 90's with an orchestra. Music nowadays seems so dumbed down- so juvenile- what happened to us as a species?? Seriously- how did this happen?- are we truly getting dumber by the decade?? Wars rage across the globe and we seem to get dumber by the moment but this performance brings back some grace, some intelligence, some dignity to us all- God Bless Procol Harum.
Big thanks. I have been waiting for the full concert broadcast for 32 years. Me and my dear friend saw this band lineup 2 months later in Halmstad Sweden.
Thanks so much for sharing this. I was at both of these concerts. It was awesome. May Gary Brooker rest in peace. Hope you have a Merry Christmas. Cheers! ✌️
I have heard the song before probably in a movie, but Brooker’s voice was amazing. There’s another version from 2006 with the Danish philharmonic orchestra when he’s at 60 and his voice is possibly even better than when he was younger. Just an amazing song. I heard he passed away last year so RIP.
Fantastic, just discovered this. Mark Brzeziski played drums, former drummer for Big Country. Gary Brooker received an OBE for his charitable work in 2003. Good man.

Wish I was there but I was stuck in Panama with the US Army. But after I retired they came twice to my hometown of Ridgefield, Connecticut in 2014 and 2019 with Paul Winter joining them on soprano sax for Whiter Shade Of Pale and A Salty Dog. How lucky can a fan get?
I last saw Procol Harum in summer 2014, with Carl Palmer/ ELP legacy I-95 industrial complex Aston Twp, Pa. 10 yrs ago from this post July 29, 2024. I saw PROCOL HARUM 4 times: 1991, 1994, 2012, 2014...

Great to see the prominence of Gary's piano in the two instrumentals at the end. Brilliant renditions of Grand Finale, Repent Walpurgis and Conquistador (twice!)
