To make this really easy. I dont know why the use that .183 oz. The easy figure is 5.2 grams per 1000 sq ft. .183 oz = 5.2 grams. Im not sure what kind of scale the use that measures like that. Mine reads in grams and whole ounces. I have about 6000 sq ft. So i use about 31 grams of prodiamine in May and another 31 grams in july. Thats it. I live in Ohio so depending on your area on when to apply. Google gdd tracker and based on your zip it will give u the optimal time to apply crab pre emergent (prodiamine)

Funny, I just put down Prodiamine today in DFW arera, under the months graphs you showed from the label there is another table that shows maximum rates per year by grass type per 1000sqf, I divide the max rate per year by 2 since I do fall and spring application. It is easier to covert to grams (at least for me) , so the max rate fo Brermuda grass is 0.83oz that comes like 25grams divided by 2 for 2 split application, I used 12 grams per 1000sqf.

We can use prodiamine in the fall when overseeing tall fescue?.is that what I heard? I thought if you were applying prodiamine that reseeding is a no no for a few months after applying. Am I wrong here? I thought that was the reason you don't use prodiamine when overseeing in the spring. Wouldn't it be the same in the fall and prevent germination?
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 7 месяцев назад
No, you can’t do both. One or the other; seed or use pre emergent. If you seed in fall you’ll want pre emergent in spring. Fall for tall fescue is ideal for seeding, not spring.

The big issue is I have a Chapin backpack sprayer, and it's difficult to know how much water (rate of water) comes out of that sprayer.

Since I spray my 2 acres with a 25 gallon pull behind sprayer I use a lot of chemicals compared to the normal home owner. I used Lesco Pre-M in a split application for years with some mixed results. I have used prodiamine since 2019 when I bought a 10lb bag of it for $115 from my Siteone dealer. I used that up last year so I need to buy more but dam now I only can get a 5 pound container for a $115. Price has doubled 😳 I was using a mix rate of .80 prodiamine to a gallon of water or 20oz to 25 gallons of water for one spray in March here in Oklahoma. So a 5lb container will only give me 4 application at that rate. Using that .183 for 2 months ×3 roughly. 55 oz per gallon of water for a 6 month application maybe I will try that instead of the annual max rate. It's hard for me to do the split application because of weather and mainly wind. When that 2nd application is due It's normally to windy or I have to work. Lol I have been spraying my Bermuda acreage for over 15 years so I have fought that split application of Lesco Pre-M for many years. I prefer one application in March and done! 👍 If and weeds or crabgrass later in July or August I have the chemicals for that in my arsenal.

This is my first time using Prodiamine and unusual temps here in Minnesota. I treat 2 acres and cannot water it in manually. Last week soils temps were in the 40's and all of a sudden this week we had record heat. Monday-Wednesday were in the 80's and yesterday hit 91. Soil temp overnight showed 61 degrees. Next week the low will get just above freezing. Did I miss my window for putting this down? I have been waiting for rain in the forecast but no luck there either. Any help is appreciated.
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn Год назад
That's normal, as temps fluctuate back and forth. Ideally we want the first app down around 55 degree soil temps for split apps, then again at 65 soil temps so, you are pretty close. I think you should be fine, but you do want to try to get that in the soil via water somehow.

You can use the nozzle that comes with it. You may want to research and look up jar testing. This tells you how much your sprayer outputs in time format, to know your walking pace.

I’ve noticed the yellow color when you spray. I have some decorative rock beds with some larger nice stones will this stain those rocks and stones yellow over time or once it waters in will the yellow go away? Thank you!

Not sure Josh! Great question. I’d imagine it would likely stain, so I’d use caution, unless you can refresh the rock easily

so the measurments you mentioned do not have anything to do with the gallons. I know its probably not wise to do very little water too but i have about 15K sq ft. should i split it into 2 4 gallon applications? I'm a fast walker but again i dont want to do it all in 4 gallons if its not effective??? is too much water bad is too little water bad. hope it makes sence. I do the granular but i would not mind just throwing the battery backpack on and walk my yard like i do with my herbecide spray applications.
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 7 месяцев назад
If you want to be safe, split it in two sprays. Your sprayer, the nozzles, all factor in. For my setup, yes I’d be able to do your 15k in two tanks. If your nozzles are different though, less volume than mine coming out, you might need 2 1/2 tanks to cover it.

Not 100% sure, but I do believe if you put it down, water it in, I'd say a day or two to be say and you should be fine. May not have to even wait that long, but uncle Google might have that answer.

I have a good amount of broadleaf weeds right now that came up with my fall seeding last year. I sprayed with Tenacity about 3 weeks ago and it's working to kill them. I also have several bare spots and overall feels like a thin lawn (tall fescue and perennial rye mix). I was thinking about seeding this spring (located in Winston), but I've read it's not a great idea for various reasons. Would you recommend using prodiamine pre emergent and only fall seeding for all lawns even thin lawns with bare spots or could I try to seed this spring and then start with pre emergent next year? I might be able to use tenacity as a pre emergent because I can use it while seeding, although I don't think it's as effective as prodiamine.
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn Год назад
I personally recommend dealing with the grass you have now, and seed in fall. You can try spring, but summer is likely gonna kill it with the heat. Not enough time for roots to grow. Planting in fall, those roots have 6 months of growth. Huge difference. I’d do pre emergent and just suck it up til fall. Then go with your seeding so you don’t waste money. Just my opinion. This is also exactly what I had to do my first year. I couldn’t wait to plant and had to wait all spring and summer to get there.

I've heard kids/animals should keep off of it until it's dry. But if it's going to be a few days before rain, should they be kept off of it until it gets watered in, or just until the initial application itself is dry (Google says 3 hours?)
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn Год назад
After watered in, 3 hours sounds good to me. To be safe though, I'd just keep them off that day and play it safe.

Pete puts out a pdf or video with his stuff. I didn’t believe it myself until a viewer told me to look at the pdf. The nozzles put out a huge fan of water, and with a quicker walk, you can cover 8k in 1 tank. So if you mix it for 8k, there you go. Been working for me!

@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn Год назад
That depends on your tank and nozzles. I run .183 per half gallon to output 8k sq ft worth in a 4 gallon tank. With standard nozzles, you likely wanna do .183 per gallon and refill as needed.
