PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR -- Episode 60 (Season 2)
Recorded May 5, 2018 for release on May 10, 2018
"DOUBLE BALL ELIMINATION WITH REDEMPTION FRAMES"
--
We've done the Single Ball Eliminator. We've done the Double Ball Eliminator. This time, we're bringing back the Double Ball Eliminator, but with a twist: We've added two "Redemption Frames." Here's how it works:
In each frame, all the players still in the competition will throw one ball. The player with the low pinfall drops into the Elimination Bracket. Once there are two players in the Elimination Bracket, each frame will end with those two players throwing one shot to decide which of the two of them is eliminated from the competition. The survivor remains in the Elimination Bracket to await the next player that drops into the Elimination Bracket.
Twice during the competition, we hold a "Redemption Frame." In the Redemption Frames, only the players who have already been eliminated or have dropped into the elimination bracket get to throw a ball, and the one who gets the HIGH pinfall wins their way back into the main competition. (In the Redemption Frames, if the player who was still active in the Elimination Bracket happens to be the one who wins their way back into the Competition, then the player who finished 2nd in the Redemption Frame will take their place in the Elimination Bracket.)
Once the field is winnowed down to the final two players, they bowl one 10-frame match to determine the winner.
So that's how it works.
We begin this day with 16 players, 13 youth bowlers and 3 coaches. Pretty much anything goes in these Single- and Double-Ball Elimination events, as all the participants and the fans looking on in the bowling center will egg on the bowlers. It's about the most fun we ever have bowling a PRODIGY event.
As always, USBC Silver Certified Coach Randy Brown (who's also a participant in this event) is your play-by-play announcer. He's also the Executive Producer and Tournament Director of PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR.
We welcome your comments. Just remember to keep your comments positive. Remember, the mission of PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR is to "Celebrate Junior Bowling while we Elevate Junior Bowlers." In other words, if you have a critique of one of our youth bowlers, try to make it HELPFUL, not HURTFUL. If a comment is deemed unnecessarily mean-spirited or insulting, it will be removed, and in some extreme cases, the author of the comment will be blocked from posting to this channel again. But certainly any comments that are clearly helpful are not only welcome, but encouraged.

*** PLEASE DO *NOT* POST SPOILERS!!! *** Also, please read below: I don't normally do this, but shortly after posting this week's video (the one you're watching), I sent an e-mail blast out to the participants who bowled on the show this week (in most cases, the email address I have is their parent's) and other interested parties, including a few "friends of the show." I am sharing it here with you, the PRODIGY viewers, as I suspect some of the factoids listed below may be of interest to you, and may even surprise you: Ladies and gentlemen, Here’s this week’s PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR episode, in which (if your name is listed above) you graced us with your presence last Saturday. The video just went live on RU-vid a short while ago, right around 12:30 PM Eastern Time today, 5/10/2018. This is a fun one. It’s the “Double Ball Elimination with Redemption Frames." Here are a number of factoids you may not know about PRODIGY that might interest you: * By this time tomorrow, this video will have about 5 or 6 thousand Views! * By this time next week, those Views will have grown to over 10,000, and those numbers will keep ticking upward as the video stays online. * Our first video that we posted of you junior bowlers (the one I officially consider “Episode 1” of the PRODIGY series, even though it was released a few weeks before we started calling it PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR), back on 9/17/2016 (a match between Logan and Charlie), now has over 290,000 Views! * The RU-vid channel that hosts PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR, “BrownswickBowling,” has received over 102,916 Views in the last 28 days. All but a few of them were spent watching PRODIGY. * Over 1 million minutes have been spent watching PRODIGY worldwide in the last 28 days. That’s over 16,666 hours. That works out to about 694 days, or a little less than 2 years of man hours spent watching PRODIGY in just the last month. That’s mind-boggling! * While you might assume that most PRODIGY viewers are kids, they are not. The largest demographic that watches the show is 25-34 year olds. Then 18-24s. Then 35-44s, 45-54s. And then teens. The one thing they all have in common? They’re BOWLING fans. * Most people watch PRODIGY on their cellphone. The next most common place they watch is on their computer. Then their TV. Tablets rank 4th, followed by game consoles. * You might think that the lion’s share of PRODIGY viewing is done in Georgia. Not true. In the past month, about 47,000 minutes of viewing have been done in Georgia. About 58,500 minutes have been spent watching PRODIGY in Texas. About 58,000 minutes have been spent watching PRODIGY in California. About 56,000 minutes have been spent watching PRODIGY in New York state. A little over 52,500 minutes have been spent watching PRODIGY in Florida. And about 49,500 minutes have been spent watching PRODIGY in Illinois. All of those states rank ahead of Georgia in terms of minutes spent watching the show in the last four weeks. * PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR has viewers in all 50 states. And while about 85 percent of all the time spent watching the BrownswickBowling channel (where PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR is the main attraction) happens in the United States, we have subscribers in Malaysia, the U.K., South Korea, the Philippines, Canada, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Australia, Mexico, The Netherlands, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Argentina, New Zealand, Thailand, Taiwan, Aruba, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Brunei, Brazil, Costa Rica and Denmark. And while we don’t yet have subscribers in the following places, we’ve logged viewers in places including Egypt, Finland, Russia, Sudan, Pakistan, India and other places too numerous to mention. PRODIGY IS EVERYWHERE!!! All these numbers I’ve quoted above come directly from Google Analytics (RU-vid is a subsidiary of Google). * A recent independent poll revealed that the BrownswickBowling channel, where PRODIGY lives, is the #5 most popular bowling-related channel on RU-vid, behind only the PBA’s channel, USBC’s channel, Storm Bowling’s channel, and a channel called Inside Bowling (they do live streaming of a bunch of big tournaments around the country). The PRODIGY channel is more popular than World Bowling’s channel, DV8’s channel, Hammer’s channel, Track’s channel, and even ranks ahead of Jason Belmonte’s channel (which is amazing considering that he has a global presence on worldwide television and is extremely savvy about social media). Source: blog.feedspot.com/bowling_youtube_channels/ While these numbers aren’t quite on par with RU-vid channels like the ones owned by, say, PewDiePie, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift or The Ellen Show, we’re just getting started. And the numbers certainly suggest that there is strong interest in bowling - and that interest in youth bowling in particular is quite healthy, thank you very much. Just ask some of the show’s regulars like Charles Bostic, Christian Mennell, Brandon Racioppi and others - they’ll tell you that when they’re out of town at a tournament, there’s usually a bunch of people who will come up to them and say, “Hey, you’re (insert name)!!! I’ve seen you on that PRODIGY thing on RU-vid!” You’re a rock star! But best of all, for those of you who are interested in pursuing collegiate bowling, I can tell you that we have been made aware through the grapevine that a number of collegiate bowling coaches and recruiters have their eyes on PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR. And we’ve received reports that some of the top PBA tour players and bowling industry insiders are fans of the show, as well. I’m grateful for all the attention the show has received, and know it wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for you, the PRODIGY bowlers and your parents for supporting your bowling and the show. Thank you for participating. Hope you enjoy this week’s episode. Sincerely, Coach Randy Brown USBC Silver Certified Coach Volunteer Youth Director Brunswick Zone Roswell Executive Producer PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR

Get well. The videos will continue coming out until around the 4th of July. Then, just like last year, I intend to take a couple of months off to recharge my batteries. (Plus, I have to move in July...first time in 17 years. So I will need the time to sort that out.) Then we'll start up again when the Fall league starts up again sometime around Labor Day. During those two months of July and August while I'm taking time off, you'll have time to binge watch!

Fun Fact: I watch like every episode like 7-10 times a day to a week. Probably been contributing to the Texas count for like five months now. (Was on Sunset Strip or light went in Georgia with my selfie). Good show. Gotta love watching it while waiting for my high school league to start next year. (I can’t find a junior league that’s year-round in San Antonio, TX. Probs have to only do HSL.)
@ProdigyBowlersTour
@ProdigyBowlersTour 6 лет назад
As a rule, leagues don't go year-round. Ours is ending tomorrow. We do things a little differently. (My idea, of course.) We hold a four-team stepladder. Over the course of the season, we break the year up into thirds. At the end of each third, the standings for that third of the year trigger an awarding of points. WIth 8 teams, the first place team gets 8 points, 2nd place gets 7 points and so forth. We take the standings at the end of all three thirds, distribute the points this way, and the total points gives us a number with which to rank the teams, 1 thru 8, with the top 4 teams advancing to the team stepladder. (In our Junior Varsity league, there are only 4 teams, so all four make the stepladder, meaning even the last place team has a chance to win the league championship on the final day. I would never do that with the "bigs," but with the "littles," I think it's fine.) So tomorrow, we hold that team stepladder to decide the league champions. The team of Mikey and his brother Danny and Nolan are going for a three-peat. But for the second time in the last three years, the team of Christian, Brandon and Logan F. are the #1 seeds. So we'll see. I'm thinking I'll tape it tomorrow and turn it into a low-production episode of PRODIGY. Almost like a live stream. Just let you guys watch it without all the whistles and bells. Then the following week, we have our season-ending All-Star Varsity Tournament of Champions. This is the Pins-Over-Average event that we do at the end of each season where scholarship money is awarded. Last year for the first time, we filmed the show and put it on PRODIGY. In his title defense, Logan F. shot 761 and came up one strike short of advancing to the championship match. It was one of our most thrilling episodes of the entire 2016-17 season. Hopefully we'll have just as exciting a show this year. But as for Summer, I know the bowling center has something in mind for little kids. But if we do anything at all for the big kids, I'm thinking about maybe doing a 9-pin no-tap league for the Summer. Something different. Something fun. Summer leagues typically get pretty spotty attendance because people take off on vacations. I'm moving this Summer, so I'll be taking some time off, too.

I don't really get to "work with" all the kids you see on the PRODIGY videos. Some of them have their own coaches, which, in some cases, is their dad (or in a few cases, some other coach they hire). What I do is try to attract as many players as I can to bowl on PRODIGY in hopes of bringing you a representative sample of just how talented some of these local kids are.

Okay, good. I'm a big advocate of the KISS principle: Keep It Simple, Stupid. The more layers of complexity we add to this "Single/Double Ball Elimination" concept, the more difficult it becomes to explain. The more explaining that becomes necessary, it pushes the boundaries of what I think will work. But I figured this one would work. I'd been wanting to add the "Redemption Frames" idea for a while. Truth is, the "Elimination" events like this are some of my favorites. It's a great format, because it puts pressure on every single shot, which is one of the things I like most about doing PRODIGY -- putting these kids in pressure situations. But when we have visitors drive clear across town (or farther) to come bowl with us, I hate that they might throw ONE BALL and be out. So the Redemption Frames mitigates that problem, giving them a reason to stick around knowing they've got at least one more chance. This one went a little too long, I thought. The show starts to drag about an hour or so in. You can see it in the kids -- their energy starts to dip after about an hour. Understandable. Two hours in, Gilbert's dad was fast asleep in his seat. LOL! Each time we do one of these, I learn something. This time I learned that about 2 hours is the max we really want to go. 90 minutes is even better. We've had some long ones lately. But they've been the exception, not the rule. Hopefully, these last few before the season comes to an end will be back in our normal window of duration.

Another great episode. I only have one question for you (and it is somewhat of a hypothetical question). There is currently a 17 year old youth bowler who is tearing up the lanes and is an actual member of the PBA. This bowler recently won a PBA Regional title earlier this year. While I am sure that being an actual member of the PBA would disqualify him from competing at the junior level, would you also disqualify him from competing in Prodigy if he ever came to GA? Just wondering because this kid is good and it would be interesting to see how some of the Prodigy bowlers face their most formidable competition (I think some of your youth bowlers would know who I am talking about, but I won't say his name here). One suggestion for you as the season winds down. Perhaps there could be some type of non-bowling outing where you and/or some of the Prodigy bowlers can do something together (like a picnic in the park, a trip to an amusement park, or something along those lines). Actually, I have a second question (having just completed the championship match). Just curious, but what is this week's champion's high game ever? (I asked my question in an effort to avoid spoilers.) Once again, thank you for all your hard work this season. I am sure that all of your youth bowlers appreciate all the hard work you put in every week.
@ProdigyBowlersTour
@ProdigyBowlersTour 6 лет назад
I can always count on you, Derrick, to come with at least one thought-provoking question. This time you have a few. 1. Would I deny a 17-year-old PBA player the opportunity to bowl PRODIGY? Hell, no. I've been hoping we could attract a PBA player or two to come bowl PRODIGY. Maybe to bowl the winner in a match after we crown a winner. But if that PBA player were actually junior bowling age, we might just throw him to the wolves and let him fend for himself. Not only would it be a great test for the likes of the Logans, Charlies, Joshes, Tristins, Christians and Tyrells of our little world, but it would be a great learning experience for them. (And maybe for the pro, too. Some of these kids won't be pushovers, I promise you.) 2. The idea of an away-from-the-bowling-alley event to film the kids is not a bad one and I wouldn't object to it, but it's frankly not that easy to get 'em all together in one place when they're not bowling. Maybe one of these days when we're all at a tournament -- like a GYBT tournament or something -- and the kids and their parents and I go out to eat somewhere after, I might see if they'd be willing to share a few minutes on camera with our audience. Although just watching people eat doesn't strike me as all that interesting. The thing is, the Atlanta metro area is so big, and some kids come to bowl with us from a long ways away, it's really not easy to get 'em all together EXCEPT while they're bowling. 3. (SPOILER ALERT -- If you're watching the show and don't want to know the outcome, skip this paragraph.) You're asking about our Double Ball Elimination winner's high game. And the simple answer is, I don't know what it is. I would be revealing too much about the outcome of the Double Ball Elimination with Redemption Frames if I mentioned that he doesn't bowl league with us, so I won't say that. Oops, I just did. You'd have to ask him...or maybe his league director over at the center where he bowls league. Thanks again for your questions and your kind remarks. I would imagine these kids will remember PRODIGY for the rest of their lives. I know if we'd had anything like it in junior league when I was growing up (and that was a long freakin' time ago), I would remember it. I remember my coach's names from back then, and I remember throwing a 5-fingered house ball called the Brunswick Fether-Wate. Black rubber with confetti-like yellow specks all over it. 8 pounds. I'm surprised they don't still drilled a few 5-finger house balls for little kids. Sure made throwing them easier on us little kids back then. If I remember THAT, I'm sure I'd have remembered anything like PRODIGY if we'd had it. But of course that was LONG before home video camcorders or the democratization of media production made possible by the personal computer (or in my case, the Mac). God bless Steve Jobs. (RIP.) 'Til next time... Over and out.

@ProdigyBowlersTour
@ProdigyBowlersTour 6 лет назад
Me, too. It's one of my favorite formats. I thought we'd get to do one this weekend (09/22/2018) what with most of our elite bowlers out of town at the Georgia Interstate All-Stars tournament. But due to the aftermath of the hurricane and how it has impacted the team's opponents from North and South Carolina, the All-Stars tournament has been cancelled and will be rescheduled on a date to be determined. So we'll have all our best players on hand this weekend after all. We might still do a Double Ball Elimination, but I don't like doing them when we get a bunch of visitors from other centers to come bowl with us. You know, because I don't want them going to all the trouble of driving over, only to be eliminated after throwing just one ball. That would suck. So we'll probably go with some sort of "normal" format again this week.

But ever since I blew out my ankle, my game has gone south and my weight has gone north. LOL! But hey, I give it my best on those rare occasions when I still bowl. Kyle Palo he has a full time job in radio so it’s reasonable that he is a better announcer than bowler but he is still good bowler

You just keep at it. You'll get that elusive 300 game. When it gets late in the game, don't be thinking about what might happen if... Just think of THIS SHOT, the one right now, in front of you at this moment. Stay in the moment. That's the secret, if there is one. Remind yourself that you've made THIS SHOT many times before and just go make it. THIS SHOT is the only one that matters RIGHT NOW.

Kevin Craun no hop step in his swing makes him already better than Belmont. Maybe coach randy could add something like c.a.t.s. Stats to the matches in the future. Would be interesting to see rev rates and mph

We don't have couches bowl. But some of the coaches do. Seriously, we rarely have the coaches bowl. But occasionally, we do.
