I think my favorite part of this performance is Jimin's lower pitched run at the end. We rarely hear his lower range and his vocal agility is always top notch. Great call out on the drums as I could never put my finger on why that part felt off. 💜💜

I agree, their depth of emotion is off the charts and Jungkook is only 19 🤯 The fact that they sound even better live is just astonishing. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 As for the drums, I actually like them, it reminded me of that right before something dies (in this case the relationship ) the heart beats stronger and then stops completely. I thought it was a really interesting choice. It makes it more dramatic. And in the studio version the scatting is faded as once again a choice. I love the scatting in the live so much better. Anyway, loved your reaction.😘

The live is definitely preferable to the studio version of this particular track, for the electric guitar riffs, if nothing else. Watching Jin in this live is special, because you get to isolate on his voice and it's tremendous in this type of song. Someone else mentioned JIMIN'S run in a slightly lower key and that's a nice change (he doesn't do it enough in main vocals versus backing ones). Jungkook's scatting is impressive just because it's an artform you don't see/hear too much anymore. Old school jazz!

The first time I heard this song I thought old time jazz. I could picture a 20s-30s speakeasy with all the golden voices of that time. I'm 73 so still a little before my time but grew up with those wonderful sounds. It's a must listen to song.

No matter what they are performing, they always just leave everything on the stage. Their vocals, their rap, their dancing, their EVERYTHING is given 110% to the audience. Their passion and immersion into their performances elevates them even higher than their skill and mastery do. For me, that makes me love their live performances so much. But I totally understand what you're saying about the band in the live version.

The live harmonies and the live instruments are just flawless and even better than the recording. Although there are better lives, the fact they are a bit winded and tired from a long dance set they had just finished and were still dripping sweat from out a bit of rawness in their voices I think. The fact JK is still a teen here and they are so you g to have this much passion in their voices always gets me. I adore this song and performance so much and the whole stage aesthetic and no dancing etc just added to the ambiance. So count me in for understanding your enthusiasm and as always loved the details you picked out. This show was in Japan and I hear they are the most quiet and respectful audience in the world. Ie BTS can walk in the crowd and be left alone not rushed at all. For songs like this they are silent to enjoy it more but they do the fanchants etc when the songs have them.

They can deliver such sad emotion because of a reason. This song is song from their HYYH era in 2015 - early 2016. 2014 until early 2016 was the hardest years for them, especially in 2015 where they got their first win in music show but also got a lot of accusations like chart manipulation, plagiarism, etc.

House of card, truth untold, lie and louder than bomb for me are the best and I now you'll love them all

I laughed so much during the ASMR bit you did after Tae's breathy vocals. TBH, it is one of my favorite parts of this song, because it happens right after the High note from Jimin and JK and it feels almost like a deep breath after the whole explosion of emotions. It is such a strong moment even though the vocal is not "strong" or intense. I loooove it a lot.

I really love the live version of this song because, as you mentioned, they provide so much intensity and emotion with their vocals. You can feel all the passion and pain and they still manage to deliver incredible vocals even though they are drenched in sweat from other songs performed prior to this.

A year ago when I fell down the BTS rabbit hole, I began looking for jazz influences in their music. This. Wow. The piano intro and exit and the walking bass. Mmmm. But when you add their soulful vocals, this performance is just amazing. Thanks for this reaction. Your observations added to the enjoyment of an already beloved song. PS I wonder if V's jazz sensibility is part of the magic?

Actually I found Tae's voice so soothing and soulful that it always brings out my emotions. The vocal line really did a great job to deliver such a high quality performance.

I fell in love with Jungkook’s singing with this song. His adlibs, harmonizing, singing high, singing low, scatting--and he was only 19 at the time. He truly “fills in” BTS songs.

I totally agree with you about Tae's high notes. This was when he still had that innate dark timbre (he has brightened his tone over the years) and that dark timbre really colored his high notes. We still get to hear that darker tone sometimes, but it's a stylistic choice now, which demonstrates how much skill he has acquired.

to answer your question, no, it does not get better than that. It is stunning, heart wrenching, the harmonies are, as you said, god tier. The only thing I wish is I had a recording of this in my apple music so I could listen to it over and over. I do with the studio version, which is insanely beautiful, but this is an order of magnitude better for me - because the emotional component and how raw the vocals are is my style. It's what draws me to music. I get what you are saying about the drums. And I loved Jimin's low vocals in this. I love his lower range. Sure, his highs are pure and beautiful and pretty amazing, but he has an amazing sound in his lower range and that run at the end is so so beautiful.

Yes, the vocal line added more emotion of frustration and sadness in this live performance than the studio version that’s why their vocals sounded like that… plus, they’ve performed several songs with choreography before performing House of Cards. ARMYs were heard before and after the vocal line performance since HOC is a very emotional song. BTS live performance is always 10x more amazing than the studio version as far as I’m concerned. BTS are the greatest performers alive! BTS is the best! There’s nothing like BTS!

Yeah, the crowd sound might have been a bit edited for the whole atmosphere etc. but some audiences e.g. at Japanese shows, tend to stay fairly quiet for certain songs/parts of songs, apart from maybe the fanchant bit...can't remember if this specific performance is at a Japanese show, but that might explain it.

I agree with your comment on the loudness of the drum beat in the live version, I also noticed that in Black Swan. But my initial take on the heavy beating of the drums is its similarity to the beat of the heart in pain that the song evokes, if that makes sense. But overall, I love this live version better than the lyric version.

YAY! I LOVE this song performed in whatever this Live is! I understand your comment about the drums but to me, it seemed like loud heart beat and I liked it. I love the vocals on this better than the recorded version, though there is nothing wrong with the recorded version. In the Live, we can actually see who is doing the backup vocals, the scatting, etc. This is one of my favorite Vocal Line songs from BTS, even if it is a sad one. Thanks for your reaction and thoughts on everything! Also, NOT every band sounds as good Live as they do on studio versions. This is one of the reasons I love BTS. I'm an older person and I've been to a few concerts in my life. Other than BTS, I only can think of 1 or 2 bands that sounded as good Live. Kudos to BTS.

I love the wittol finger claps 17:51 live band instrumentals have such a nice vibe that I can’t help but be happy that BTS’ concerts during HYYH era had accompaniment from actual musicians live on stage. That being said I really have no musical understanding whatsoever so I can’t adequately compare the live and the studio version. I just know that they have some differences and that I love them both

I think both versions, studio and live, are amazing but for different reasons. The studio version is more "epic" (not sure if it is the right word but something similar to this feeling) and beautiful and I tend to prefer the instrumental of that version more. But the live one is so powerful and full of emotions that is really hard to pick a favorite. I think it will depend on how we are feeling at the moment haha

Artists arrange their music for live performances all the time so it suits a live performance better; so, no idea why you find it surprising/interesting…? This version is the best version they have. I love that they each get to shine individually and then they harmonize beautifully mid to end of the song. And yes, Jimin’s and Jungkook’s harmonies are legendary!!

BTS is much much better to listen to live. That's why it is a must to see and watch their concerts cause they will really give a you a total show and experience you won't forget. Aside from their voices their choreo is really something.

I know what you’re talking about I had my stepfather listen and he is a professional Singer he sings gospel and he in his 80’s and he really enjoyed this. He wasn’t reading the lyrics but he said The way they’re singing you feel the heart ache and pain.💜

I think the drums were a tad over the top but they supposedly represent the clock ticking down on the relationship and how the couple is more and more aware that even though they still want each other they aren't going to make it so the drums become louder closer to the songs end.

The mark of a great vocalist is their interpretation of the lyrics in a live - all four succeeded in conveying pain in their singing. As for the drums, I didn't even notice them. When I heard Jin belt out "No way, no way"....I knew BTS had not given his voice enough attention and they should give him more Leads in the BTS songs!!! His voice is amazing. My favorite. Jin's latest...the OST "Yours" shows he has improved and he is now singing better than ever. Please keep singing OST's Jin. You and your voice are amazing!!! It melts my heart, soul, and mind.

It honestly makes me SO mad that HYBE doesn’t release albums with lives from concerts as I’m pretty sure SM did with Exo.
