he was very accurate when he said that the songs are gonna hit later. When i first listened to the album i wasn’t sure if i was vibing with the songs but now i’m literally obsessed. My favorite songs off the album are definitely pov and safety net
There's a reason why she's called the vocalist of this generation. This album proves it. No other commercial artist is anywhere close to her atm. She has established her brand. Her singing is on another level.
@@MariahIsolated nah, i think we don't need to compare singers just bc they sing high notes and shit,,, mariah has her own style, and ariana too . ariana and her team are so fuckin good and iconic. yeah ofc ALL artist take inspiration from others :)

this is what shes always wanted to make and im so happy shes doing what she wants more now. it also feels like christmas and chill without the christmas feel
@@240SX2pAc not completely she does the primary mixing and arranging and has been doing it since she was 14 and has a song at the time but the arranging could have used work but still obviously she doesn’t do all by herself but she does the main thing then the others tune it and stuff
@@240SX2pAc she does it all herself ....1) she showed us her producing and arranging process on ig 2) she is credited as the only vocal arranger on the album so....
Art there's videos of her doing the vocal @arranging on her own and many people that have worked with her have confirmed that she does it herself. She comps her own vocals and she is also credited on multiple songs as the vocal producer.
@@fashionista101model exactly!! I haven’t heard a single person that appreciates trap or rnb or jazz say anything negative it’s just pop lovers who hate this album and ari doesn’t want to do pop
ariana grew up listening to 90s r&b and she even wanted to originally sign to her label as an r&b artist but they said it wouldn’t fit her nickelodeon image. this full r&b album has been a long time coming and i’m glad she made it
omg you are so right when you said the songs feel strange when you hear them at first.. I had the same thought at first i wasn't sure i liked the album.. then slowly the songs started growing on me without realising i kind of dig them now 😅
i actually really love the versatility in her voice in this album. she sings in the lower register, she sings in whistle, she raps a few verses is some songs, she's belting, singing in a low falsetto. like her voice is incredible.
And people still discredit her for her vocal talent. I’ve seen people call her a “mediocre singer” when they’ve probably seen like 3 of her singles and none of her live performances. No other singer in the game is doing what she’s doing 🙄
I would say there is versatility (vocal wise )in other albums like thank u next like imagine which has the whistle tones and she raps in 7 rings and in the sweetener albums she uses her low register for multiple songs but I would say her vocals are on another level on positions!
Pov is my favorite. And positions is just THAT album for me. Like, the first time i listen to it i was like "um, i don't think this is my cup of tea" but now i listen to it everyday lmao😂
Same! I didn’t like any of the songs besides positions on the first listen, now I listen to almost all of them on the daily 😂 obvious and POV are my faves
I'm pretty sure her whistles was the raw take with Auto tune. She can definitely speak in her whistle registry she used to do it a lot in her older videos. We've seen Mariah Carey do it live so many times but because it's Ariana people automatically assume that she's not able to do it without tweaking it. I cant wait until she performs this live so everyone can see.
as a drummer and percussionist for 14 years, i totally understand what Blake is saying around 28:20 about ari's sense of rhythm. she has a great understanding of time and likes to use it in her music (i think she was in band in middle school, but i could be making that up). it's a reason i love and respect her so much as an artist!
Absolutely. This video really showcases how in tune she is with percussions while singling live. She consistently comes into the song on an off beat. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BAB_QG3h7oU.html
@@becka2737 others hate it because they want the same POP-like Problem, Break Free or Into You song for Ariana over and over again 😒, but not me.. I'm also in love with this album!! 😍❤️
"honestly, i like this sound on her alot! i think this might be a very underrated album if people, u know, take it wrong". WOAH U JUST SPILLED, BLAKE! this album is actually heavily criticized at the moment; like it received mixed feedbacks.
True, I think it’s make sense that Blake would like this cause he’s also producing music and this album is for me her best produced album so far. But I kinda understand if this album didn’t do it for wider audience who only listen to pop ariana. That’s weird cause actually even in this rnb, neo soul infused album, there’s still pop sounding in it. Still charting tho.
I mean if people don't like it, then they don't, I liked Ariana's sweetener album alot and I think it's real underrated but yet again, most people dislike its busy style, so I guess that's why the album isn't really popping off at the moment
@@stantwitter1016 i agree alot! this is her best produced album, yup. and prolly, ppl have been expecting a pop ariana comeback. positions is not for them, but that is OKAY.

I really love ariana especially as a singer. The quality of her voice and her technique is so good it reminds me of the singers of the 90s, it's just that ariana polished it with a touch of current music trends. What she does is not just hit the high notes but also a sense of rhythm, harmony, riffs and runs, vocal production, low notes, real whistle notes, Broadway, even rapping 😩, etc. I dare to state out loud that she is the one female pop singer who is famous in line with other famous singers but with abilities like divas, there was no one on her level *NO ONE* . I mean a lot of great singers out there, but Ariana just hit on another level. And I love her as a performer too she's never let me down with her performance.
While staying in the whistle register does limit proper pronunciation especially when it comes to vowels, it still is possible for very few singers. In mainstream pop, only Mariah and Ariana can do it.
@@noahlol14spinach95 if there's anything these artists have to know first and foremost before getting into any sort of career, it's the limitations of their voice. This is important especially if they plan to promote their songs through live performances. So while artists may grow and explore their vocals as they progress in their career, their range is one of the most definite things they are fully aware of. They know what they can do in a more controlled environment (a.k.a. studio recording booth, smaller intimate venues) versus what they can actually do in bigger productions they have minimal control of (live TV gigs, concerts, tours). Also, I mentioned mainstream, so that narrows it down to just an elite few who can actually whistle, let alone enunciate in that register. Christina can whistle, but there doesn't seem to be any performance of her being able to pronounce actual words in the whistle register, and trust me, if she could, she already would have, just like many other wide-ranged vocalists out there (Tori Kelly, etc.) - they already would have experimented and tried it on their own, and put it on record if they could, because being able to do so is an asset.
i totally agree that some people will not appreciate POSITIONS as it should, because they're not familiar with ariana doing this sound. The same thing happened to Sweetener, and both are my favorites. I love how you always comment about the details, cause that's what makes this one, Sweetener and Thank U, Next my favorite albums by Ariana. Love Language is probably my favorite song from this album.
the problem is that we're too familar with ariana doing this sound. it's uninspired and sounds like everything she's done before. my hair stands out but it's not even that good
I was genuinely nervous about this album when I heard that it was gonna be alot more adultish and mature. I WAS BLOWN AWAY ! Positions is a cultural reset... I am IN LOVE with this album. It is now my favorite album by her !
there's not a single day that i don't listen to this art. its like im hooked with it and i can't live without listening to it. no lies. im just OBSESSED.
@Kovu Pride or maybe they changed it after they listened to the album bc they like it so much? i mean that picture literally just came out when ariana released the album.
i really agree on the jazzy music, thats why i love my hair the most on this album. you should listen to "jasons song" by her, its so good and kinda jazz too!
This was so dope to see you analyze the music and point out things that I hadn’t even thought about the first time I heard it!! You were also right, I instantly had my favorites after the first couple of listens but now when I go back I like every song. Super dope video:)
you always make me pay attention to things I hadn't paid attention to before, that's why I love your videos you're the best, also this album is EVERYTHING 😭😭💘
this album is the definition of a grower, same with sweetener it’s my fave by hers but the first time i listened to it i was like it’s okay, now i’m falling in love with all the songs in POSITIONS!! pov, safety net, nasty, my hair, obvious & off the table are my faves!
See it’s funny because, for me, Thank U, Next was the grower. I loved Sweetener when I first heard it, and I loved this album on first listen too. It’s interesting because for everyone else it seems to be the opposite. Maybe it’s just because I’m more of an rnb fan than pop fan, and TUN felt very pop to me, while this of course is more of the sound I want to hear from her.
I feel the same!!! Like some songs on TUN I liked right away but it felt way more classic pop with a lil trap and I loved sweetener the first time I heard it too!! Same with this I was like oh my yes bless you Ari.
@@AGEE_95 I personally never managed to like Tun, except Imagine, Ghostin and some of the singles, i don't enjoy the project. While I directly felt in love with Postions, to the point it's my favorite album by her. I feel like album like Positions and Sweetener are way more interesting artistically and will age way better than album like Tun or DW.

his 34+35 reaction was perfect. dead straight face not at all phased by the lyrics and then he finally smiles at the "it means I wanna 69"at the end😂 he's brilliant
I love watching your videos because you really appreciate the music you react to. It’s fun to look more into the whole like construction of the song rather than just listening to listen haha. I find myself literally being like “woah” when you explain something and I go back and listen haha. Keep it up!
I am pretty sure you've heard Doja Cat's music before (her song Say So) but just didn't know that it was her, she's a singer and a rapper. Super versatile and talented
POSITIONS! 💅 Always love your reactions and the way u break down albums and musics, even though I'm not technically educated in music, I learn a lot in your chanel! ❤️
At about 42 minutes in, you begin discussing how they might have made the beat, so just wanted to let you know! Ariana said during an interview that for every track, she had different tracks of string music sent to her. The songs all began as bare bone strings, and she wrote over them. When she wrote over the strings, they then went and made the beats with the strings as the starting point :)
Interesting fact.... you talk about the producers mixing her vocals, would it be crazy to say Ari is the engineer who actually mixes her own vocals. She’s credited on the album and there is video of her actually mixing her own vocals. She works with her producers so well and tells them to add on like this is why I love her so much. Not many artist have that musicality and at such a young age still like just wow!
Yet she isn't credited for song production on any of the songs :) and has ton of other songwriters on all records - she is not a songwriter but maybe a lyricist.. :)
@@minamaras7325 she does write with other artist I hope you know. She is credited as a writer too but I was talking about how she is credited as the engineer
@@AidenShelford uhh see this is where I highly disagree with you. It sounds good and there are others who help her clean it up. Everything is super crisp so how is there mistakes? No hate just confused because I’m pretty sure many would’ve picked up on it and I’m pretty sure as a mainstream A list artist she wouldn’t release something half done
people expect so much bangers from her but i’m a massive fan of her whenever it comes to her more vocal heavy cuts like “get well soon” and “ghostin”. this album has so much correlation with her past songs too. i feel like this album were for the fans.
Same. Plus I was waiting to her to do some rnb too, coz she pretty much serves us pop songs. All of her single is a bop. Especially the thank u next album that EVERY song on that album can really be a single
yeah same here. i think i just expected it to be like thank u, next so i didnt really like it at first but then i gave it another go and i listen to it all the time now
i think we all have the same experience, some of the songs are really growers. now after listening to the album for the nth time 😂, i really love it so much.

I really want you to react her yours truly album, it’s like positions clean non damaged younger sister!!! Edit:My hair was sampled by indie arie just like west side by Aaliyahs “one in a million” the crickets and the back beat.....I think( look I’m no music professional). I actually think you should react to Aaliyahs album “Aaliyah” it’s a very innovative album for that time and her being an r&b artist going in a different direction!! Edit again: Ariana is actually already inspired by 90s r&b and hip hop, and it’s a genre she always wanted to do. She has multiple 90s r&b inspired songs on “yours truly” and “my everything”. Even her biggest inspirations came out the 90s or were prominent in those decades and decades before(Mariah, Whitney, Chaka, pattie, Diana ross, etc.)!!!
I love his reactions and this was one of my favourites. His opinion is so unique yet he never has anything negative to say! Thank you for this reaction, it’s great to see it from a producers point of view. I am definitely going to check out your other videos!
This album blew me away. I actually cried when I heard her vocals on my hair that whistle part in that song was spectacular. I loved that Ari went for this new sound. She always wanted to do an R&B album since the start of her music career. It’s subtle but soooo beautiful. It’s heavenly. Definitely a 10/10. ❤️❤️❤️
Congrats! You won the vinyl!! Send me an email at represent.bm@gmail.com so I can get your info to send it :) If I don't hear anything in the next three days though, I'll have to pick someone else.
What you said at 6:31 is totally how I feel about this album. I wasn’t in love with this album the first time i heard it but now that it’s been almost a week of me listening to it, each song is really sticking with hp,e and I like them more every time I listen to them
