I listened to the album because I liked deja vu and drivers license, even though I normally prefer alternative and rock. Can't even tell you how excited I was after hearing brutal🙌🏼Kind of wish there were more like it but she writes beautiful ballads as well, plus good 4 u is super fun!
Fun fact: Olivia wrote happier when she was 15/16 years old, and is the song from which Dan discovered her. You can still find the unreleased version on RU-vid.
Plot twist: you’re actually only watching this video as an excuse to listen to Sour for the twenty eight time today. It’s alright, we’ve all been there, LOL.
i remember ive watched an interview where she said that it was her decision to choose that song to open the album, and her crew was like "u sure about that??"
Also fun fact, olivia interpolated the piano from New Year's Day by Taylor Swift, and she played the piano on the track herself so sc00t3r wouldn't get any coins :)
I feel like jealousy, jealousy is such an underrated song on the album. It talks about one of the most important topics in my opinion which is the impact of social media on teenagers’ minds. I struggle with self confidence a lot and find myself comparing to a lot of unrealistic body standards, it was definitely the most relatable song for me and that’s why i love it so much.
@@no-rc3oo theres 11 songs in sour 1. brutal 2. traitor 3. drivers license 4. 1sf3sb 5. deja vu 6. good 4 u 7. enough for you 8. happier 9. jealousy, jealousy 10. favorite crime 11. hope ur ok
This doesn't matter at all, but you should put a comma before "Olivia," otherwise it reads as if you're telling people not to fear her (which is fine but doesn't make sense contextually)
omg when you felt taylor swift in "1 step forward, 3 steps back", that song actually has a little interpolation of “new year’s day" ! olivia asked taylor permission and then credited her and jack antonoff as co-writers of the song
Olivia: “his parents cared more about the bible then being good to their own child, he wore long sleeves cause of his dad” Blake: Same line, Same line, Tail line.
It isn’t a sample. Its an interpolation. There’s a difference. Taylor gave olivia permission to use New Year’s Day which meant scooter Braun wouldn’t get any money from the song which is just genius of them.
THE END OF HOPE UR OK Olvia: *inaudible* Dan:..is that cool Olvia: no Dan: does it not fit into the album, is there something wrong with the record Olivia: I don't know laughing there's something wrong with the record Dan: there is something wrong with the record Olvia: there's something- everything wrong with the record Dan: everything;s wrong- let's start over again Olvia: let's start over *drivers license note (if ykyk) plays to end the album* presumably the album restarts BRUTAL- first line Olivia- I want it to be, like, messy (in reference to what she wants the album to be like now that they restarted ahhhh!! I love it here)
I actually think that the last part of hope ur ok, when instead of saying “he, she, them”, she says “you”, she’s referring to us, as listeners. And more generally to her audience. As a closure to the album she wanted to insert a message directed to her audience letting us know that she cares about us and she hopes we are ok.
I absolutely ADORE Blake's perspective on music, he's totally unbiased. He may like an artist but he won't let that get into the way of an honest producer opinion and I hold so much respect for that. As a classical musician who is very passionate about music and is totally biased towards certain artists I really look up to his thought process 😊❤️✨
Im so jealous of music producers..they can put into words how they feel about music..when I listen to a song and like it I can't explain what makes it good its irritating. But also when you watch their videos they translate all your emotions and make u find out why u like the song and Blake is really good at that he never misses anything so thank you Blake love your videos!!
I believe that the end of 'hope ur ok' is actually tying back to driver's license because at the beginning of that song you can hear the ignition of a car, and I think that ending of 'hope ur ok' ties back to that ignition, and it slows down which could mean closure.
It's a nod to so many more than josh and then she brings it in as a subtle nudge to him as if.. Oh yeah btw i hope you're ok as well and i mean it. She's phenomenal and this is just the first album, and shes already better than a lot that's already out there
" I just got 2 really hard ballads in a row that hit you in the right spot, that's a lot for one person to take" and then plays happier afterwards HAHAHAH
I love how the songs were lined in such a chronological way. She started off sour and heartbroken and slowly went through the stages of grief, until the end were she came to terms with the situation and moved on. Such an amazing album
she wrote and composed "enough for u" all by herself as well as happier aaahhh so proud of her. Dan also said olivia wrote the 70 to 80% of the lyrics of all songs. 😭
Honestly it irritates me that Olivia is strictly compared to other artists...yeah she has inspiration but can't people hold her to a standard that's her own? I don't want to hear about Taylor or Lorde anymore, just let Olivia be herself.
When Blake paused in the middle of Brutal’s “I’m so sick of 17, where’s my fuckin teenage dream” part of me died inside lol, I feel like he’d love that line and it went unnoticed 🥺 Hope he gets to work with her someday!
time stamps: 2:08 brutal 5:43 traitor 12:30 1 step forward, 3 steps back 16:27 enough for u 21:49 happier 27:22 jealousy jealousy 32:00 favorite crime 35:54 hope ur ok yes yes ur welcome
As a European, I would love to see you making a Eurovision reaction video, for instance to the Italian, French or Swiss song. Even if you don't understand the lyrics, you'll love the music!
I literally don’t get how people hated that performance, I thought it was amazing and the emotion was unbelievable, I also didn’t even hear those “cracks” that the haters were talking about either
even if her voice cracked, I couldn't see what was the problem there. it just makes it more human and soulful. many singers voice cracks while singing or even performing in a concert which is NOT at all a bad thing. people should understand these artists are also MORTAL.
I loved her voice crack, it just showed the emotion and I think it also sounded sooo good idk why ppl always need something to hate on. She’s unbelievably talented, every artist has voice cracks sometimes
41:03 that sound is actually the car turning off from the start of drivers license. I think it signifies that drivers license ''turned on'' or started this album/ her career and the car turning off signifies the end of the album. At least that's my theory
Enough for you sounded very Ed Sheeran-inspired to me, maybe even little things x one direction. And favorite crime harmonies sounded very Florence + The Machine. I love how she pulls inspiration from so many artists!!!
I love how in "hope you're ok" Olivia is singing about a a boy being abused by his parents but Blake smiles coz he notices a "same lin, same lin, tale" structure lol.
I think that the last song wasn't about the breakup because she kinda realzed that there are people who are really struggling and that she wants to write about them more
I think it's about 2 childhood friends both struggling from abuse (mental or physical). And the guy was able to escape but the girl couldn't. And she is asking the guy is his life was okay after the escape. I think it is a story olivia made up
@@sangredelangel could be I'll listen to it again. I also noticed that both were abused because their parents were homophobic (or simply didn't like who they chose to love)
That’s why I love the way the album plays out. You start out with brutal which gives you the tension and hype that leads into traitor and drivers license, etc. Which are all songs about her heartbreak. As the album continues she goes from sad and upset, to just pure anger. After she lets it all out though, she starts to focus on other topics that aren’t related to heartbreak, like in jealousy, jealousy or hope ur ok. With hope ur ok as the ending it gives the album a feel that she’s truly getting over her heartbreak at that point and I thought it was genius
The thing with this album is when I first heard some songs, they were pretty meh. I wanted to show support for her and kept repeating the album and they somehow grew on me and now I don’t even wanna skip a single song.
@@what.309 this album is definitely a grower. Truthfully although I love Olivia I didn’t like it at first. All the songs blended together but I listened to it a couple more times and I love it now.
For someone who is the same age as Olivia and going through the same kind of thing but yet a completely different situation, I really appreciate her story telling and lyric writing ability. It is so specific but yet relates to a broad audience. This album hit hard.
1 step forward, 3 steps back actually has Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff credited as writers for New Year’s Day. Olivia very purposefully used that melody!
I get skipping the singles, but I think that the order of the album matters because she puts sad songs then happy then sad so they're kind of like breaks in between. Like good 4 u and deja vu were the break between the sadder songs.
My favourite thing about artist is a quality she has,it isn't just the voice and lyrics it's if you take the voice and lyrics, i could listen to this album instrumental and still enjoy how stunning it is. The honesty and control she has is stunning and how she literally puts her heart out on her sleeve and makes it sound effortlessly when it's so rare to have her talent. I love how professional you are, the album is about losing a first love and couldn't hit it on the nail more, and you touch subtle on how it hits you but you focus and break it down so professionally, and judge her on all the hours of dedication and work that's gone in to this which she completely deserves. I see so many other reaction videos focusing on the drama too much, you just make her shine. I'm getting musical vibes with 1 step forward and 3 steps back and enough for you, and hope your ok, this album is just a perfect story.
If you check the credits on 1 step forward, 3 steps back, taylor and jack antonoff are credited because the song uses an interpolation of taylor's new years eve
at the end of “hope ur ok” there’s people talking at the end (at least two ppl) and I’ve seen a lot of people talking about how it’s Olivia talking to one or maybe even both of the people she was singing about
Blake: You just don't hear that kind of specificity in pop music My mind: Um... apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur... baggy sweatpants and the Reeboks with the straps???
Fun fact: on 1 step forward, 3 step back Olivia interpolated Taylor Swift's song New Year's Day. That's why Taylor appears as a writer for the song even tho Olivia wrote the song by herself :)
I love these videos so much. I just enjoy hearing you break down a song into components I could never even imagine, you’re incredibly talented. Also, you mentioned tøp so now I’m a follower for life (:
I really looked forward to your reaction video ever since the album came out (or whenever Olivia releases songs). I'm really stoked when I saw you uploaded!
I feel like I have such similar thoughts as you about songs, so your videos are, in a way, how I feel like my thoughts are out there. Such great videos!
if you really pay attention the end of “hope ur ok” sound like a car turning off & in “drivers license” the song begins with a car turning on. it’s like she finally found closure
I love how he doesn't pause every 10 seconds and talks for like 5, he's so genuine and you can really see that he likes the music and how passionate he is without any doubt one of my favorite RU-vidrs/ producer that reacts to songs
